I can't support Gog anymore. Even old games I have bought long ago are not DMR free. (they used to be) What you get is some other company(that wasn't even a company for at least a decade after the game came out) is now going to demand an account, log in name, and password. You have to agree to let them install spy ware in order to install the game. Gog is nothing more than a sleazy front for spy ware now.

They also feel the need to bend the knee to Cultural Marxists and virtue signal about the hottest "tragedy of the week". I WANT to like GOG, I want there to be more DRM-free games released natively on Linux. But if GOG is content to sit on a pile of mediocrity, so be it.

I'll take my money back to Steam or sail the high seas.

I have one game in particular ,that came out in 1993. Gog uses an exe file now that is from a company that didn't exist in 1993. Why? I have had my dealings with that company before. It was unpleasant. I did find an old exe file from 2012 that worked without the jerks from the other company having to be involved.

So, where's the problem again ?...

Old games now retrofitted with DRM? Unpleasant. Can you bring some clear examples?

By the way, this is the n-th topic about the same (generic) matter. You can still merge into one of them and go on there..

Agreed. "MuH MSM NarRativE"

Saying that, I bought Oblivion last week just to make sure I get the offline installer before Bethesda decide to jump on the forced account bandwagon.

Are there alternatives which are not steam and do not ship with full blown drm?

Its hard to justify giving money to a platform that would discriminate against entire human populations based upon the actions of the few. Hopefully the GOG staff are willing to reevaluate and apologize.

zoom platform

They don't have as many games as GOG, but they are DRM free and they don't follow the woke/pc agenda much(if at all).

Given how they(GOG the company) have decided to handled it(silence all dissent) so far, I doubt it.....but it'd be nice to see.

GOG has changed their ways over time, anyway. As I recall they were more tightly focused on older games in the past. That focus has broadened quite a bit.

I second that.

Encroaching drm has been a problem with newer releases (ex: online-only multiplayer, online-only extras, etc), not older titles.

I'm all for bringing GOG to task on that, but lets not invent issues where there are none.

Question: Why does every A-hole in world want you to make an account?
Answer: Spy ware, they want as much information on you as they get, to sell to other A-holes.
The world is nothing if not filled with rampaging a-holes. The world is a vast sea of stupidity.

That won't happen. As they say, "never underestimate the power of large groups of stupid people."

In my experience, we're all stupid at least some of the time. Might as well try to be kind to others when they are (as hard as that can be sometimes) and hopefully they'll be kind to you in return when it is your turn.
