Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

skeletonbow: Repeating this here from the other thread, so people can find it more easily:

Ugh...... I figured out where game backups get downloaded to.... <facepalm>

Nobody's going to like this....

(...)

It blew away the configuration of where games are downloaded to and no longer uses the directories where I told it to put my downloads. There is no visible way to configure it anywhere including the Windows registry nor an INI file. So where does it put the downloads?

Scattered all over your game INSTALLATION drive, with each game's downloads going into a subfolder where the game would normally get installed to if you installed it with Galaxy, thus intermixing the concept of game "installation" with the concept of game "downloading and archival for backup purposes".

I don't know what to say. This is ridiculous and a big major let down. The new client has great new features and looks much prettier and I'm excited about that stuff, but I've been using Galaxy for downloading all my game backups for 2 years now roughly and it has worked mostly rather good, but if there is no way to configure the download directory and that is a permanent decision, then I'm very sad that it is going to be useless to me. :(

(...)

Michiduta: From the changelog:
- Games are now downloaded directly to their install directory, instead of a temporary location

So that one location is used for everything now.
avatar
skeletonbow: Which is completely unacceptable.
This removal of a manual backup folder was a terrible idea. Honestly, GOG, backup of installers is an important part of the DRM-Free philosophy and is now needlessly complicated. It was enough of a hassle to have to click to download the backup titles one by one, but now we can't even choose the location of the downloads? This is archival 101, we need this back if GOG is still serious about being DRM-Free.

Since I couldn't find a Galaxy request for this, here it is: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/bring_back_manual_folder_path_for_backup_goodies_downloads

Venom: - Games are now downloaded directly to their install directory, instead of a temporary location
Can you please elaborate on that? Are you saying that we won't be able to download installer anymore and not in a directory of our choice?
If that it's true is crazy. GOG Galaxy until now was useless apart as a subpar substiture of the GOG downloader you are dismissing (as you are not always updating their resources so some download don't work anymore). If you remove that feature what is Galaxy for? How are customer supposed to backup their games.
avatar
MIK0: Can you please elaborate on that?
Game files (not installer files) were downloaded to a temporary folder, and once all were downloaded, they were moved to the installation folder. Now they are downloaded directly to the installation folder, thus skipping the moving part, and (hopefully) bypassing possible issues with insufficient disk space in the temporary folder's drive and/or issues with overly aggressive antivirus programs deleting files midway.
You should still be able to download installers normally, though I think you no longer can set a directory specifically for extras, so it should be in a subdirectory of the installation path.

That's more clear, thank you.
But what you mean about the extras part? I usually download installers and extras in a folder and then backup it. I don't care about the installation path as I don't use galaxy to play games, just as a downloader.
avatar
MIK0: But what you mean about the extras part?
Galaxy used 3 directories. 1 temporary, 1 for installing games, and 1 for moving the downloaded extras to. Since 1.2, it only uses the 1 for installing games, thus may mess a bit with how one downloaded extras. You can still find them and do whatever you wish with them, but it may be a bit differently organized.

So Galaxy is actually getting even worse with time. Nice...

Depends on how you look at it, the temp directory was simply an extra unneeded step and GOG changing it to directly download into the install directory is plus in all honesty. They just also need to provide a way to select an option for a global location for backups if people don't like the default, which should be doable... but from a pure technical standpoint the new setup is much better.

With respect to downloading installers+patches+extras as it stands now, yes.

While the temporary directory may have been seen as unnecessary or problematic it did serve a useful purpose. For one, I keep all of my completed downloads in an archive folder on my F drive, and I do not want partially downloaded in-progress downloads mixed with my completed downloads. Having games downloaded into a temp directory ensures that if they are still in that temp directory that they are not completed downloading yet as they're only moved to the destination when the download completes.

As far as disk space is concerned, files can be moved from one location to another location on a single partition just by renaming the file to the new location, there is no need to make a duplicate copy first so a simple "move" operation is turned into a rename on the same volume. Only a copy+delete occurs when a file is moved from one volume to another since it is on a different filesystem in that case.

Game installation and game downloading are completely unrelated actions and there is no good reason for making them both forced into the same location without the ability to configure it.

The current Galaxy configuration is extremely limiting and makes it useless for many people myself included. I'm back to using GOG downloader currently due to this one bad change in 1.2.x and I'll have to remain using GOG Downloader until either:

1) GOG adds back the ability to configure a backup download directory, which is trivial to do really.

or

2) A 3rd party downloader client that allows me to download what I want, when and how I want becomes available. Before anyone suggests one of the many fine 3rd party clients that are available currently - I already know about every single one of them so no need to suggest one of them to me.

I really hope that Galaxy 1.2.3 or 1.2.4 has this download directory problem fixed though, this is extremely irritating in an otherwise fantastic Galaxy release.

On a side note... Did anyone figure out how to successfully programmatically authenticate to the new Galaxy API via 3rd party process yet? I seem to recall it was partially figured out but required some manual copy and pasting hacks to authenticate properly but I haven't kept up on the reverse engineering of the new APIs as of late.

It'd certainly be nice to be able to write custom downloader clients (GUI and commandline) against a publicly documented API some time this century though if we can't have a flexible way to download backups currently that meets everyone's needs.
I just noticed a real oddity in Galaxy 1.2.2beta where occasionally the game page brought up for a particular game does not match the description of the game that shows below it. Seems really puzzling how such an error could occur though. I've attached a screenshot illustrating the problem, where the game selected is Descent Freespace, however the description shown is for a completely different game - The Bard's Tale.

I've noticed this problem occur a few times over the last week at random, but not in any way that is easily reproducible. Unless you're carefully looking at the description you might not even notice that it happened. Anyhow, screenshot attached to illustrate.

Hey,

we have just released version 1.2.3 of Galaxy on the public Beta branch.

The change worth noting is addition of aborting the Cloud Saves synchronization, which along with optimizations in the mechanism, should prevent from any long delays (sorry for that), when you are trying to play a game.

As some of you could probably notice on the website, we changed game titles to no longer be all uppercased, this version of Galaxy follows up with this change.

Full changelog you can find in the Galaxy :)

Are you planning to give users back the possibility to use a different directory for downloading backub/extras and game files like it was before and like it was demanded from several users here since the 1.2 version is available?

Given how many feedback we gave you here I have to say I was expecting a bit more feedback from GOG here as to what is planned regarding the problems.

Regarding to the changelog:
"Changed achievements' rarity level boundaries. Changed 'Unique' rarity level to 'Epic'"

really? You invested time in making another category of earned achievements but you still haven't changed the order so the whole thing is quite pointless if I don't want to check every single one of them. GOG your priorities are - I have to say - very strange.

Just tested the new and improved cloud saving:

Started Witcher 3 after having played it before without cloud saves. It takes about a minute and Galaxy is telling me to chose if I want to use local or cloud files. I tell Galaxy to use local files then seamingley nothing is happening (no syncing shown). After a short while the syncing process starts (I guess about 2 or 3 minutes since I first started the game) the syncing starts and is taking not long. I enter the game and immediately after that I quit the game. Galaxy Play button is not turning green, witcher3 process has to be shut down manually.

But performance seems to be much better as fas as I could test it. Thank you for that!

Something is amiss there indeed, would you be willing to fill out a mantis report and include the logs, so that we can prevent such situations happening in the future?

That's exactly the issue. GOG stopped supporting Downloader without providing something better to replace it. GOG Downloader links or the site right now are not reliable as they are not always updated correctly as they have stopped maintain them. Galaxy did nothing to the users that wish to be able to backup what they have purchased and being notified when something has changed. Also it was never implemented a way to audit your backups to see if something needs updates or is damaged. Basic functionality that are really needed.
