Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

MarkoH01: Just tested the new and improved cloud saving:

Started Witcher 3 after having played it before without cloud saves. It takes about a minute and Galaxy is telling me to chose if I want to use local or cloud files. I tell Galaxy to use local files then seamingley nothing is happening (no syncing shown). After a short while the syncing process starts (I guess about 2 or 3 minutes since I first started the game) the syncing starts and is taking not long. I enter the game and immediately after that I quit the game. Galaxy Play button is not turning green, witcher3 process has to be shut down manually.

But performance seems to be much better as fas as I could test it. Thank you for that!

TheTomasz: Something is amiss there indeed, would you be willing to fill out a mantis report and include the logs, so that we can prevent such situations happening in the future?
Will do so as soon I find the time.

MarkoH01: Are you planning to give users back the possibility to use a different directory for downloading backub/extras and game files like it was before and like it was demanded from several users here since the 1.2 version is available?

Given how many feedback we gave you here I have to say I was expecting a bit more feedback from GOG here as to what is planned regarding the problems.
We are currently evaluating possibilities.

MIK0: That's exactly the issue. GOG stopped supporting Downloader without providing something better to replace it. GOG Downloader links or the site right now are not reliable as they are not always updated correctly as they have stopped maintain them. Galaxy did nothing to the users that wish to be able to backup what they have purchased and being notified when something has changed. Also it was never implemented a way to audit your backups to see if something needs updates or is damaged. Basic functionality that are really needed.
I hypothesize that only 0.01% of us users care about and use this functionality, so they probably do not prioritize the development for us and instead focus on the 99.9% that probably just install all of their games directly with Galaxy and do not download backups at all. Thus our voice is probably small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

This wouldn't be so tragic if we actually had a usable documented API to which 3rd party clients could thrive. I'd be more than happy to write my own to do what I want it to do, and may end up doing that eventually anyway but I'd rather the API be documented than have to bit-bang on it. There has been progress made on reverse engineering the Galaxy APIs but I believe the login authentication is still a mystery which makes it all not so useful except for continuing the reverse engineering efforts.

Myself I would like to use both the official client for what it's good for, and a separate customized client for what it would be best for.
Hi. I tried to update from 1.1.30.5 stable to 1.2 preview today and I believe current update process is broken.

Looking at logs, after checking "Receive preview updates" and restarting, updater is downloading preview updater 1.2.3.5, launches it, but then it checks and downloads Galaxy Client on master, thus re-installing 1.1.30.5 stable.

So it launches 1.1 with /migrate switch (which is being ignored), and then launches it again after you exit the client.

Or as I said before provide a feature to create your own backups in Galaxy that can be re-installed with or without Galaxy. I find having to re-download backups to be a complete waste of data. Personally I would much prefer the ability to create my own backups.

Considering that GOG can do a pr stunt like years ago and close the site for days, it's their duty to make the backup process as easy as possible, therefore it should be a top priority.

However I like the idea of a 3rd party clients, that would sure bring up some cool and usable tool to manage backups. But relying on an API managed by GOG is really risky, they can change it at any time.

Thank you - that sounds promising.
Okay so somehow a few of my games appears to he been wiped and I do not believe I deleted them. I am not sure if it was the 1.2.3 update or just some bug but I have at-least 2 games with either there game folder empty or they are nearly empty (only contain a few files). Something appears to have gone wrong.

Anyone else notice this...

Edit: This might be a coincidence but both are games that start with an F ( FTL: Advanced Edition, Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes).

That might be another option to consider, but it wouldn't be a suitable replacement for the existing standalone installers because:

1) Galaxy is optional and was stated that it always would be optional.

2) I don't want to have to install every one of my 540+ games first in order to then back them up.

They already have a lot of work on their plates to handle the existing standalone installers that do not require Galaxy in any way shape or form, plus the setup for Galaxy itself. Adding a third option and the development costs and ongoing maintenance of such a third option seems untenable and unlikely IMHO. I don't really care either way though, I just want to be able to download the tried and true standalone installers, patches and goodies as we've always been able to, and to have them all end up in one single directory of my choosing which may be a completely different hard disk or partition from where my games get installed to.

In fact, ultimately it would be nice to have it have a default location where games get downloaded to but have the option for it to pop up a dialogue box to ASK you if you want THIS download to be saved somewhere else this one time. Not unlike how Steam lets you pre-configure multiple directories for game installation, and defaults to your primary location but lets you switch to one of the other pre-configured locations during game installation. Having an option like that both for installation and separately for backup purposes would be ideal. The defaults would be the same for everyone and a nice simple default, but those who have bigger needs could easily tweak things.

I'm not sure I see how the PR stunt is relevant, but I definitely would like to see the official client have a usable backup functionality that isn't highly restrictive and dumbed down one-size-fits-all like is currently present.

As for relying on an API managed by GOG, there really is no other legal option possible. Making an API that is not managed by GOG would involve someone creating their own website which stores copies of all of the games GOG sells and allows people to connect to it to download them with some custom client that uses their own API, which would be considered illegal piracy.

The only option we're ever going to have is a GOG API, and it is and always will be entirely up to them how stable and reliable the API might be over time. To date they've never published any API so there officially isn't one however and they're free to change their undocumented API however they see fit as it's still technically in a developmental flux. At least until they do actually document it and publish it for others to use anyhow. Hopefully the API is versioned, so that future changes which might be incompatible can coexist across multiple versions of the API, or to which some backward compatibility is provided.

Even better though would be publishing not only the web API docs, but an official client side library with bindings to common languages. The entire idea has a lot of promise but we'll have to wait and see though for undetermined timelines.

1. Don't see what they has to do with giving a backup option. This wouldn't be a replacement for the standalone installers and those who don't use Galaxy would not be impacted in any way. This would simply cut out the wasting of data re-grabbing every standalone installer after every single update that Galaxy can provide you by the data it already contains on the hard-drive with much smaller updates. This could even be expanded to do automatic backups in the background after a game on Galaxy get's an update.

2. Again not saying this should be a replacement for standalone installers. I agree on adding an option to be able to set a global location for downloaded backups. However having an "actual" backup feature would a much added benefit for the games you do install via Galaxy.

What is this about a missing Back up?
Has the "Backup&Goodies" menu been abolished in 1.2?

THAT would be indeed very bad! Hope I can disable the auto update for my 1.1.30beta then.

No, they simply changed they way in which back ups are stored and the way downloading is handled. Before 1.2 you could configure where these backups are located. But in 1.2 now it is automatically downloaded inside a !Downloads folder within the installation directory of the specific game, you can't change this location.
avatar
I see, does it now always download these self-installable backup files and then just start them to install a game?
Because that´s awesome then!

What got on my nerves when using Galaxies INSTALL button were the missing stand-alone install files.

Always having to manually go to the backups&goodies and redownload it a 2nd time, or simply ignore the INSTALL button outright.

No I believe it works the same way as before, it simply put's them into the installation directory of the game where your game would be located had you installed using the big blue install button. Basically this get's rid of the temp folder and simplifies the process (from a technical point) by putting everything in one single location.

This is why I am arguing for a actual built in backup feature so that you can use the install button, and then use a "backup" feature to backup the loose files downloaded by Galaxy. Basically creating your own standalone installer.
avatar
Frankly, that´s quite a useless waste of time&money to bind a Dev coding this, when it´s already there in the client with the BACKUPS&GOODIES option.

Galaxy should by default just download the stand-alone installers, execute them and afterwards ask if we want to keep it or not.

What you want is the typical Steam functionality, but that´s only there because Steam is DRM and doesn´t allow stand alone install.
It´s actually useless here, as we have the much superior option of the Self-installers.
