== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Destro: There is right unusual amount of The Witcher 3 pre-downloads going on - like dozens of petabytes per hour. I'm afraid it can affect some other downloads going on. Please be patient and sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks for the info.

gringlas: That would be nice. :)

skeletonbow: Ok, I tested it with Dungeon Keeper so far, and after exiting the game the first time it registered around 21 minutes. I exited and restarted Galaxy and then the game a while later, loaded my savegame and continued for a while. Exited and Galaxy did not immediately register my game time even after a reload so I thought I reproduced your bug but then I left it for a while and played a Steam game. I came back later and Galaxy had updated the time on Dungeon Keeper correctly so there could just be a timing issue perhaps. More testing tomorrow.
No at home I tested Galaxy again with Win7 (64bit) and still no game time is added, even to games game-time will be added on my Mac. I reinstalled Galaxy already, but that didn't seem to help.

MarkoH01: GOG Galaxy can't detect it but it can import the game using the import option through the library. After that however my Witcher 1 has two registry entrys and in my software folder in windows is mentioned two times. I filed a report and it was disregarded because I am using Windows XP. You can try if the problem persists in Win7. I could try as well but I have given up for Galaxy at the moment.
Sorry to bother you again. But I just found out about something which I find quite amusing. We all know now that Galaxy is not officially supporting WinXP (which is old and dead and dangerous - yeah, I got it). But who can explain me what is written in the opening post?

"Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows Vista or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs "

Now I am laughing pretty loud, sorry guys, but Galaxy does not support XP but still stores its log in a specific folder? I don't think you have been thinking this through.
GOG has stated that Galaxy is not officially supported on Windows XP, but they do not prevent anyone from installing it on XP and trying to use it, nor have they made any intentional changes to the code to make it not work on XP either. It may or may not work and people are free to try to use it. The reasons the directories are different on different versions of Windows is because they are virtual directories. I'm not sure what the code is for those specific ones but it is probably something like %UserData%\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs and the actual operating system itself expands it to the directories listed above. An MCSE would know the proper %variable% that is used for that directory hierarchy likely, I just made guesswork.

At any rate, XP isn't an officially supported platform for it, but they are not taking any steps to purposefully make it incompatible or prevent people from trying to use it on XP either although they certainly could if they wanted to.

mike_cesara: I don't think it's worth it to post on mantis, but friends list dropdown menu is broken. Either on regular and embed site.
Could you post a screenshot showing the breakage for comparison purposes? If anyone can reproduce it, someone should file it in Mantis if it isn't already. If I can reproduce it I don't mind filing a bug report, but I'd like to see what I'm looking for. :)

Issue was fixed about an hour or so later.. Sorry, can't provide any screenshots.. It was on server side, menu didn't work at all.

SonicRainbrony: Are you kidding? You are using a 14 years old OS and are expecting modern software to work on it? Even Microsoft has dropped XP support. I must be falling for a troll.
Some people have an older computer+OS that just does everything they need for the most part or that they're at least comfortable enough with that they aren't in a hurry to do a software or hardware upgrade for their own reasons, but of course over enough time that will eventually cause them problems when their OS is no longer supported by the OS vendor and software companies start to drop support for it as well, and as newer software puts more and more demands on the hardware. I myself like to run my hardware right into the ground and don't upgrade things unless it is absolutely necessary so I can feel both empathy and sympathy for others that choose to milk their hardware and OS for all it's worth too.

Mind you, I also recognize that technology moves forward according roughly to Moore's law both with hardware and that the software moves forwards with the premise of expectation of the hardware following Moore's law too. As such I fully expect that new software will come out at some point that will require me to upgrade my hardware and/or my operating system and that that is normal and expected. I sometimes get disappointed by it too, but I don't really get angry with the hardware vendor or software vendor that has hardware or software incompatible with my old system in that case because I don't think it's realistic for me to expect companies to support hardware and software forever. I feel disappointed and possibly even upset in that situation, but it is more undirected feelings than being directed towards a company.

In the case of Windows XP - never before in history has a single operating system used by mainstream consumers ever been supported by hardware and software vendors and the OS manufacturer for so long. It is a miracle that anyone has supported it as long as they have really. It came out in 2001 IIRC, and went end-of-life in April 2014, around 13 years altogether. Totally unheard of! I think it's ok for people to keep using it if they are happy with it and don't care about the security risks of using software full of security vulnerabilities, but they really shouldn't expect any companies to continue to support the product any more at this point. If anyone does support it still it is a bonus extra and shouldn't really be an expectation.

I know if I was putting out brand new software at this point, I would explicitly not even let it install on XP simply because some people will assume that if something technically can install on XP that the company/developer is obligated to support it but that's just me. :)

Having said that, I don't think it'll matter much for very much longer because the number of machines running XP out there still is quickly diminishing month by month to the point of line noise in the next few years. I've still got it on one machine here (with no network access), but that box will get wiped clean sometime and the OS replaced with something else in the near future too. :)

I think the biggest problem though, is people who are happy enough with their computer hardware and know that if they upgrade to a newer OS they'll be forced to buy all new computer hardware and they're either not in a position to afford that, or they just don't want to be forced to spend the money right now. I can't blame them for feeling that way either, but sooner or later we inevitably have to either dust off the wallet or increasingly suffer. I went 9 years of "suffer" until I dusted off the wallet in 2013 finally and the pain is all behind me now. :)

My recommendations to folks in the unenviable position stuck on XP are thus... curse, swear, dust off the wallet, spend some money, curse more, swear more, rejoice not having to suffer for N years of bliss before repeating again. :) Or ... don't, and just keep suffering, but it only gets worse over time and you will become more and more bitter, kind of like grumpy old man from Saturday Night Live. You'll start to eat wool coats and whatnot... ;)

Anyway... :)

taltamir: 1. Galaxy absolutely needs to have an option to NOT run automatically on startup. Between steam, origin, desura, and impulse there are too many of them to let them all run all the time. I manually run steam when I want to play a steam game/update. I should manually be able to do that with galaxy
You're absolutely right. Good thing Galaxy does have an option to NOT run automatically at OS startup already and all one has to do is turn that option off to stop it from starting up at startup. Of course, one has to go into the settings menu to find that and turn it off though. :)

avatar
taltamir: 2. Galaxy should let you download an installer for backup.
You're absolutely right again! 2 for 2! Good thing Galaxy does have an option to download the installer and extras for backup purposes already. Mind you, it isn't in the most intuitive place for everyone to find it easily. Hopefully they make it easier to find in the future. For those who have not found it it is on a game page under [More]->[Download Extras], and you can download the game installer and/or any of the individual bonus materials. This option has been there for a couple of months in the alpha and now beta builds as well. Again, it isn't the easiest to find intuitively however but it is there.

avatar
taltamir: 3. Galaxy needs some debugging
You're totally 3 for 3 so far. :) No surprise there though, beta software kind of by definition needs debugging. That's part of the whole idea behind beta testing of course. :) It'll only improve over time as the kinks get ironed out I'm sure. It both has a long way to go yet, and simultaneously has come a long way.

avatar
taltamir: WindowsXP Is dead not because "microsoft said so", but because it really is dead.
In the april 2015 steam system survey 95.81% of users were running windows. Of those 3.29% of windows systems were WinXP
Yep, 4 out of 4 now. :) RIP XP. :)

Is anyone else getting extremely slow speeds in the client? The store page takes forever to load (if it ever does load), and ditto for my library. The GOG website, on the other hand, loads almost instantly. When I first tried Galaxy a few days ago, it seemed to work just fine.

In response to my previous comment about the Witcher 2 getting a "server problem" error when trying to transfer/install it through galaxy, this seems to be a problem with only Witcher 2, since beneath a steel sky seems to download perfectly.

Can anyone confirm if the Witcher games are having this issue or if its only me?

Thanks!

MarkoH01: O.K., I am now finally out. Support just told me that Galaxy does not support Windows XP and so they disregarded my bug report. I've tested for hours, destroyed some of my installations and wrote a bug report to get THAT reply? Hell, even Steam does support Win XP and several games still support Win XP. I hope you guys had fun with all the work you did on Galaxy but obviously you don't want me to be part of it. The optional client is so optional that you only can use it if you use a special OS - no thanks! Please kill me of your beta testing list and take the Client from my library which now also looks like shit but that is a different story. Oh boy, I was so in love with GOG but what you guys are doing at the moment - not funny at all! Bye Galaxy!

Microsoft has dropped support because they want people to buy all their other windows. It's really funny how this (EVEN Microsoft has dropped support) is the first thing I hear everytime I mention the bad XP OS (which btw is one of the best MS developed). But, yes, I am the Troll and all those "OMG you are using XP???" (Why do they care anyway? I don't harm them.) are the real deal. And I tell it for the last time: I did not know that Galaxy is officially Win7 and since it runs O.K. I hadn't even mentioned it. The reason I filed a bug report was a real bug which was disregarded ONLY because I run XP even though the bug is reproducable on Win7 as well. But please let us end this discussion. This is not a "XP is good or bad thread", it should be about "Galaxy". I just replied to this because you were calling me a troll and I thought I should defend myself.

Would be nice to get a special option to see all games that don't have any tags.

Wishlist entry here:
http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/no_tags_sorting_option
Anyone have any idea when achievements will start working? I'd really like to play TW2 again [this week would be ideal before TW3 goes live] but I also want the achievements.

I'm the person that likes to collect all achievements for a game but I don't see my self playing TW2 again once TW3 goes live...
How do we download patches manually under the new system? The gog downloader page didn't seem to include links for all items.
I have a few questions.

Will there be a way to pause downloads?

Will there be a download speed setting? That way I don't take up all my bandwidth downloading a big game? Like I can set the speed to half of my internet's usual speed.

Will there be a way to add non GOG games to Galaxy? I thought it was a DRM free launcher overall, not just for GOG.

That's it for now. Thanks!

When in your shelf, click on a given game and you should see individual links for any installers or patches, if any patches were made.

Updated TW2 build is not uploaded yet. As for TW3 - I can tell you from my own experience that its achievements are working fine :)

Just noticed that manual sorting, which hasn't been implemented in the Galaxy client so far, is now gone from the on-site library as well... I understand streamlining both versions of the library, but really hope you guys will be putting this back in. Especially with the shelf-like layout, it's just awkward to have almost every game sequel sorted in front of the original (ie. Baldur's Gate 2, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights 2, Neverwinter Nights, etc.)
