Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

BKGaming: Nobody is saying otherwise... that's not what it's about. It's about having one major update in over a year and basic features still missing. If it took 10 years to get Galaxy to the same point of Steam that is fine... that doesn't mean we shouldn't be getting a steady influx of new additions, however large or small the additions are or whatever they contain at the very least every few months.

We have only gotten one significant new feature really in the last year, which is the ability to see friends game time and achievement progress. Two if you count the overlay, but that is not even officially released yet. I can't really think of anything else, other than some minor UI improvements.

As I said before, comparing 2004 Steam to GOG today is unrealistic. GOG has way more resources now than Valve had back then when they started Steam. Technology has also progressed rapidly and development is faster/easier in today's world.

A more accurate comparison is comparing Galaxy to Origin/ uPlay / Xbox App/ itch.io client... all of which have progressed faster than Galaxy, and contain more features.

Looking at the itch.io app... it's only been out a year from what I can tell based on a quick Google search, and it appears to be in much better state than Galaxy (which has been out longer) currently is based on some news reports I've read about it. It even has delta patches already. This is a shame compared to Galaxy, as itch.io's resources are nothing compared to GOG's.

I was originally against making Galaxy open source, but If it was, I can pretty much bet we would have a stable client that was significantly farther along right now.

We are demanding yes... but being impatient not really. Over a year without a major update to any software under active development isn't being impatient. I can't think of any software I've used in the past 5-10 years that was under active development that that didn't get at-least two or more major updates in a year's time. Not even major, just some additional features.

Hell even some games have been built at a faster pace than what Galaxy is currently coming along.... this basically says "We bit off more than we can chew and Galaxy is a bigger project than we can actually support". Which is fine, but then communicate that. That's the biggest issue of all GOG's complete lack of actual real communication.

1.1.26 is a in preview update for the new download mechanic which can be tested with Witcher 3, Wither 2 and Gwent.
I want new features big and small like everyone else does. I'm part of the "we" I mentioned although I wouldn't say that I'm demanding per se, but I waver between minor impatience and extreme patience back and forth depending on the day of the week with some things. :oP My patience is on the upswing now because I haven't been gaming much at all since October, and the little gaming I've been doing lately has been all on Steam (TIS-100).

I greatly anticipate the major features, both announced and unannounced that we either speculate or assume are coming and which are often discussed in the forums here. Some features I highly anticipate roughly in order of most-important to me at the top:

1) A universal screenshot feature that uses the standard F12 key by default and is rebindable in settings, with a configurable save directory.

2) An FPS counter, preferrably configurable as to the font, size, alpha, and location on the screen where it resides.

3) Game library view without any form of pagination whatsoever. I want one single page with all 57 thousand games on it that scrolls for 563423 screens just like I have in every other gaming client.

4) Personal user profiles with more full fledged social networking features, activity feed etc. - all optional in settings.

5) A greatly enhanced client UI with multiple layout options including customizeability. I hate one-size fits all, and hate the entire concept of "less is more" applied to anything in life. More is more by the very definition of the words, as well as in the reality of the universe we live in. I want more, not less. I want 10 buttons when 2 "will do". I want 50 frobnosticators when 5 will do. Because.

6) Global auto-update option actually working and not greyed out.

7) Optional cloud storage features for save games, character data, configuration and potentially other stuff like screenshot sharing.

8) Video broadcasting and recording with optional ability to broadcast to standard off-site platforms also.


That's a taste of what sprung to mind as personal priorities anyhow. I'm not confident that we'll get any of these any time soon even in unstable beta form, but I'll be thrilled if and when any of it does happen. :) I hope GOG manages to find new people willing to relocate to Poland in 2017 to expand the team out so more can get done in less time though. A single developer can only do so much coding in a day, and scaling up to push more through faster requires adding more humans.

It appears that the Galaxy team only has about 20ish people total who have worked on it over time by my estimate (based on publicly available information). Not sure how many are active on it total but I suspect it is much less than that. Hopefully that will increase this year though.
I poked around the web, forums and elsewhere a bit and from publicly available data I'd like to forecast a few predictions based on what I found, and my observation of how GOG does things over time in the past, etc.

1) We will only see minor features, improvements and stability fixes in the 1.1.x series from now on. Even though it is beta, it is GOG's most stable public branch and they will likely want to keep it as stable as possible and leave any major changes that might cause short term breakage until a future major release.

2) The next major version is likely to be 1.2.x based on a few sources, but we wont know when it is coming out until 1-2 weeks before they plan to release it based on past observation.

3) This is perhaps rather speculative but I believe that the next major release (presumably 1.2) will in fact have cloud save games and possibly other cloud storage features. I predict this for several reasons however the primary reason is that from observation in the forums over time I believe that cloud save games is the most frequently requested and talked about major feature that Steam and other clients have that Galaxy does not yet have which many people want as their #1 feature. It's not my #1 feature but it's something I'm fond of having as an option for the potential benefits it can provide to those who want and/or care about the benefits. After pondering that I went and perused the wishlist and it turns out that cloud saves is the #1 most requested feature presently, far outweighing even the #2 most requested feature. It is not currently flagged by GOG as "in progress" like some other features are, but after all the time that has passed I'd be shocked if they are not working on this already. I predict that they are working on it but that it is not in a state yet which they are willing to mention publicly to get people's hopes up. They're probably playing it safe and keeping it under wraps due to the popularity of request and wanting to buy more time to get it right. I've no proof they are and wasn't able to find any public mention, but I'm planting a flag on this one and predicting it anyway for version 1.2.x. If it is not available right away then I predict it will be available in a later 1.2.x or in the preview channel kind of like how the overlay was developed.

4) While "Galaxy Linux client" is the 2nd most requested feature and is actually marked as "in progress", contrary to the logic I applied in #3 above, I predict that that is much further behind and not likely to happen any time soon. There are remnants of OSX support visible in the Windows client and vice versa, as well as tidbits in the forums/web etc. but any remote hint of anything related to Linux is completely absent as far as I can see. So either they've forked the codebase for Linux and are slowly working on it separately so nothing shows up in the standard client files etc., or it's happening very slowly and not a top priority. This is just pure personal opinion and very speculative so nobody get their underwear in a knot, and people are free to speculate that they're going to release a client for Linux tomorrow if they want to also. :) I personally just think it isn't happening for a much longer time for a variety of reasons I wont get into as that would deserve it's own post or thread. So my prediction is "no Linux client until 2018 or later at the earliest", however I reserve the right to change that if any evidence shows up to the contrary as time goes on also. :) The Linux community on GOG is relatively silent about this compared to how vocal people are on many other things, so there might not be as much interest in it as the numbers on the wishlist suggest. Perhaps me mentioning that here will wake them all up to rip my head off and make some noise and cause this to change, in which case if it does, they can all thank me for mentioning that here. :) (Please note, I am a member of the Linux community also even though I do not actually game on Linux at the moment, so I'm on your side! :oP)

5) Bandwidth limiting, and ETA calculation are marked "in progress" and seem like they'd be simple enough features to include, so if they're flagged that way, they'll probably appear in 1.2.x when it is released or as an update to it throughout the year.

6) I predict that GOG will make a web based mini-game built into the website itself featuring the GOG bear during a major promotion sometime throughout 2017/2018. Not unlike the fun stuff Google does sometimes on their website. Just throwing that one out there.

7) I predict that if GOG doesn't do #6, then at some point in time someone else will do it and release it on Steam Greenlight, not unlike the various games out there that parody Gabe Newell and other similar humour.

8) The overlay will be enhanced with an FPS counter (it's also marked in-progress currently) for 1.2.x.

9) I think 1.2.x will also see the screenshot feature make its appearance, as it is requested more than FPS counter and is relatively trivial to implement IMHO. I've implemented screenshot functionality myself into a shitload of software and it literally takes only a few lines of code if you're using all of the right libraries at your fingertips, and that stuff is already built into Galaxy infrastructure really, not to mention that at some point in time in the past, Galaxy client did create a directory named "screenshots" under C:\ProgramData\... (I seriously hope they don't store them there though in a hidden system directory, it really belongs under user account storage by default, and with a configuration entry in the settings pane).

10) For 2021, version 4.0.x of the Galaxy client will have an optional integrated virtual reality storefront with game boxes shown on 3D store shelves. You'll be able to walk around the store and add games to a real virtual shopping cart. When you go to the checkout, GOGbear will be the clerk handling your purchase in VR, or alternatively GOGbear will come out from a back groom if your card is denied or whatnot. This one is not on the wishlist yet because it is solidly understood both by GOG and the community that this is what everyone wants in 2021, including the people who don't want it.


I'm bookmarking this post to return to it again in 12 months to see how accurate I was for the 2017 stuff. Wish me luck. :)

YouShallFollow: Game time tracking is not working.

Last time i used GOG about 6 months ago, but now, when i wanted to play my new (it's important) Witcher 3 GOTY, i was noticing that time tracking is not working. I played about 1-1.5 hours, but time was still 0 minutes.
Then I've tried: reinstall game, reinstall Galaxy, change game language, change Galaxy language, install another game (BIT.TRIP RUNNER, also new game, never played before) - NOTHING. Play time was still 0 minutes.
I even tried to check W3 non-GOTY edition play time to make sure that W3 GOTY play time didn't counted as non-GOTY play time. Still nothing ever changed.
I don't know if it's GOG servers bug or something else, I even don't know if achievements are working or not. But all i know, time tracking is not working at all, at least at my PC.

As long as it’s an option, of course. Because I’d rather have lots of pages than the website literally taking several minutes to load all the games.

(I just loaded some Steam guy’s almost‐5,000‐game library. It took me two minutes to load the text and for it to become responsive, with a few “Wait or kill?” messages from Chrome. I’d have had to wait even more for all the images.)

Cloud saves + overlay are on my wishlist, along with a lovely audio-feedback for achievements. Also player profiles along with a cloud-based screenshot-library. As far as predictions go, I expect profiles to be part of 1.3 or with whatever major release comes after 1.2. They definitely require a lot of work on the backend.

But most of all, appart from client-related issues, GOG needs more AAA-dev support. It's a damn shame Steam is the only place to get the latest eye-candy. In the meantime I'll keep supporting GOG as best I can.

Here is the list of features and improvements I think are a must for Galaxy sooner or later:

-screenshot taking
-notifications about friends' activity (logging in, launching a game, just like in Steam, and of course one could hide their activity if they wished)
-sound notifications about incoming chat messages (seriously, why hasn't it been implemented yet?)
-public profiles (which should be optional, as most things Galaxy offers)

Oh, one more thing - please let us already see CD-keys and remove users from our friend lists via Galaxy. It was advertised as being capable of replacing the website entirely for those who wished so, yet at the moment you do require the website for some stuff.

Steam just added full, automatic, per-game, profile support for Xbox controllers (360, One) with community collections. They already had this for the Steam controller and PS4 controller, but now they also do it for Xbox. This is now one more aspect where Galaxy is lagging behind. Ironically, this is much more critical for GOG than for Steam, since the older games are the ones that lack native gamepad support -- PCs didn't have a default gamepad before the Xbox 360 came around.
Gamepads have existed on the PC since at least the mid-90s, but no gamepad ever made including the Xbox 360 is a "default" gamepad on PCs because PCs do not in general come with gamepads.

I've never owned an Xbox, nor an Xbox 360 controller, but I have owned a number of gamepads for the PC over the years which all worked fine, although my preference are the Logitech models which can switch to Xbox mode with a switch for games that require it. Not sure what this new feature is on Steam, but if it is beneficial to people with Xbox controllers then it would probably be a good idea to have it.

For me, I'll just silently go back to having my Logitech gamepads work with every game ever made back to 1980s no problem though. :)

This means you can map keyboard/mouse controls to the controllers allowing games that don't typically support a controller to be played with a controller. He is saying this would be beneficial to GOG since GOG is mostly made up of old games that lack default controller support.

However, I think GOG has a little more important things to get done before something like this is worked on...

ah, I'd like to pick up a Steam controller some time. I'm mostly a keyboard+mouse player but certain games I do play with a gamepad such as old arcade games, the odd platformer the rare times I play them, and other games where it feels like it might be a more natural fit, but that's rare. I see the Steam controller as being something in the middle that can transition other games that would be uncomfortable or unplayable or poorly playable on a regular gamepad and are meant for keyboard and mouse to be potentially able to work with the Steam controller due to its different design goals, so it's more of a curiousity to me to see how it works with certain games and other stuff to see if it is worthwhile. Not until they drop the price or put them on sale though, and by sale I mean "in Canada" which doesn't seem to happen. :)
