Time4Tea: Tbh, for me it's not just an issue with GOG, it's a wider issue with the whole gaming industry. The vast majority of new games that are released these days seem to be some combination of trashy, re-hashings, overly-casual, dumbed-down cross-platform, MTX-infused MP-focused ... they don't seem to be making the sorts of games I like any more (i.e. deep, original single-player games focused on great content). I can probably count the number of new games that look good and interest me being released each year by
the industry on one hand.
Totally agree...
No matter which platform and even if Steam got 10 times the amount of new releases... the gaming industry as a whole simply is pretty much busted with just a few really awesome titles,
for me. Even the Indies... please stop the bad tasting "rogue likes" or what else it is called... it is just cheap to me... make real games... real saves. games that are simply a huge work and offer true replay value. I got not much good feelings for this new way of "replay value" which is just enforced and without freedom.
Good Indies are for example: Chained Echoes... Rise of the third Power or Crosscode... and yes, GoG got them all so i can be happy about.
Many releases are not even new... but i still do enjoy them, despite their age... such as "Trails to Azure":.. awesome games and very old already.
On PS5 i have maybe around 15 great games, on any other console close to no interest, and mainly older titles... many of them available on GoG, such as Skyrim... are really enjoyable, no matter its age. For new titles... if it have to be... can aswell use the PS5 for the few of them and magically, a top game "Horizon Zero Dawn", has been released on GoG aswell... i may be lucky.
I would not say GoG got a bad taste... they got a clue regarding good games but sure... many of the "big franchises" may not be released on GoG because customers simply do not care... Steam is simply overly supported so it pretty much is winning. However, i currently only got 4 Steam games totaly unable to avoid (in total 16 but most of them are shut down already because i got alternatives on GoG or elsewhere. Skyrim was one of them but now it is shut down, got a better version.)... so it is being played on Steam:
Rise of the Tomb Raider, Kuro no Kiseki, Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 8 Remake... and a bunch of them is on PS5 (about 15), all the others are DRM free and there is hundreds of them.
So the issue is not really big... but fact is, GoG is investing the lowest money into their platform... while Steam and especially Epic is pumping their platform with fresh cash like crazy.... so naturally... we have many unsolved issues on the GoG plattform and the users need to have a thick skin... using this platform. I just do not really care because my whole love is for the games... but it is true... the site really need some serious overhaul and more programming-force.
CD projekt red should invest more... else the customer trust may decrease and with decreased trust the platform itself may lose value... this is the problematic matter. The other 2 main-PC-competitors may even sacrifice their wallet, just in order to attract new customers... currently they simply are doing a better job. However, if it comes to my heart... GoG is the place to support.... and i was always folliowing my heart in my life.
To be honest, Steam is not even a site... rather a huge launcher-DRM-construct to me with the worlds biggest support from any side (gamer or industry) but not truly the stuff i enjoy... just bloated way to much. However... indeed... they have a serious programming-force and cash like mad, so their stuff usually works, which may give some trust. But neither my brain nor my heart is truly satisfied with... no matter how huge the programming-force... there is some serious lacks... lack of freedom, lack of warm-heartedness... and some more lack of stuff i do enjoy.
