I personally think it is perplexing that people have problems to find games they like to play within a selection of 4000-5000 games. How about reducing the pile of shame? How about looking at the things you have? How about focusing on the positive things instead of the negative ones?

It is funny that outside of this forum you meet many people who like this store and have no problems to find games they enjoy playing. They have fun. Then you go to the official forums of GOG and then you see threads like this one here.

There is a very simple solution. Go to the place which makes you happy. Move on and leave the things you dislike behind.

What might help is if GOG stopped rejecting games people actually want here (Selaco, etc.), and stopped holding back releases of games already confirmed for release here (Dawn of War, Two Point Hospital).

Steam, Zoom, and Itch are getting the stuff GOG is rejecting. Even some old games.
Sorry for the bump, but this is something I occasionally think about. Most games released here don't interest me personally, but I also don't have a very big list. I bought Remorse: The List and Doom 3 both within like 72 hours a week or so back, but in all of 2022 I spent very little on GOG.

If GOG can still stay in business with what games they do get and many people do like the titles released (setting aside potential 2nd class citizen problems), good, genuinely. :)

Crosmando: Every week I'm adding games to my Steam wishlist. I haven't added any to my GOG wishlist in quite a while.
Do something about it. Go to Steam forums, to their official game discords, 1st party forums and ask them. Show that there's actually consumer interest, rather than hoping that GOG themselves will somehow persuade every indie in existence.

Many of us do that, and while it doesn't work out every time, it sometimes does.

And with that in mind, please bump this thread up, if you can.

Crosmando: Why would I wait months or years till they get here? If they don't release on GOG day 1, they may as well not at all.
While I can't speak for everybody, my backlog is so massive that I hardly play any game "Day one". Some games with constant patching have, in fact, annoyed me so much that I often intentionally wait for all patching to cease before I finally play them.

I have had Shadow of Mordor/War, Alien Isolation, Warhammer 40k Space Marine, etc in my Steam library for many years, yet never managed to actually play them. Now they are actually on GOG lol.

Atlas Fallen will come out on GOG a few months after Steam. No reason whatsoever to buy on Steam in such a case.

Timboli: For sure, those who care about DRM-Free are likely a dwindling group of folk, mainly made up of older gamers.

I don't care about such things as achievements and online gamer chatting etc, but the younger generations especially, do.
Last time I checked many GOG games had achievements and chatting, despite being DRM Free. These two are not mutually exclusive and we have to raise awareness of that.

I myself play games via Galaxy for Achievements and whatnot, but I still download any and all offline installers, should the unthinkable happen one day. I don't see why it should have to be one or the other. Modern features versus "ownership" and peace of mind. GOG gives me both in many cases.

And if you thought that was what I was saying, you misunderstood me.

Yep, fair enough.
Not sure why you thought I saw modern features such as achievements and chatting being competing elements, I don't and never have. They are just elements I don't care for, and they can be available in DRM-Free games and often are, and I don't have any issue with that being so.

While GOG are certainly making their mark with DRM-Free games, I no longer see any revolution in that regard. GOG have had plenty of time to change things, but in reality the change they have made by my measuring is small. DRM is the way of the world, and now the world is moving on to where ownership is less desired, certainly by young folk, who are always moving on to the next great thing via subscriptions etc.

One of the things GOG did, was prove that old games are still marketable, but Steam and others adopted that too, so no longer the drawcard for GOG for some time. Old games are going to be part of the future, whether GOG still exists or not.

Their will always be a few hangers on, like ourselves who want to own, but they will dwindle with the years and aging.

And they will all continue to feel that way, until they lose something, like I lost Agony Unrated from my Steam library. There are far worse examples in Ebook and Music spaces, which is why I still buy CDs lol.

I think that if some big disaster ever affects Valve, or there's a big regime change, people will snap out and start to care again. I would say people's desire for ownership was one of the big reasons why the Xbox one reveal blew up in Don Mattrick's face.
If you buy it with DRM then why to release without DRM? Works that simple for many publishers i guess.

But reality is not that simple still, because some customers may not buy it at all because they simply got enough of other games and not enough of lifetime to play them all. So the best offer will simply win, and DRM is not tasty. Including peoples with different approach, some of them at the dark side.

Still, the majority is buying with DRM, so a lot of publishers may not try giving tasty offers to "a minority not truly worth it".

However, i have to tell you: If someone from the majority may lose access to a certain game, launcher not working, account busted or whatelse... then they start to moan "stuff not working" and the next day they buy the stuff a second time and they even wonder why they was unable to play the game they already "own"... they not even know the meaning of DRM, the majority really is that stupid... sometimes hard to believe.

All you usually need to become successful as a company: A great name, you need to "have" the stuff and you are doing lot of advertisement... thats all what is required for the majority.

But who cares... i pay in average 2-3 times more for DRM free games on GoG vs. Steam and i got about 25-50 times more GoG games, so i am not responsible for... at least i can be happy with myself.

Tbh, for me it's not just an issue with GOG, it's a wider issue with the whole gaming industry. The vast majority of new games that are released these days seem to be some combination of trashy, re-hashings, overly-casual, dumbed-down cross-platform, MTX-infused MP-focused ... they don't seem to be making the sorts of games I like any more (i.e. deep, original single-player games focused on great content). I can probably count the number of new games that look good and interest me being released each year by the industry on one hand.
Personally i feel it to be very simple to have 'that' DRM ideal conflict with your -->hobby<-- though, i have never been one for high standards only regarding women which could be also be named as {frustrated small dick/fear trauma} .. :O :p

TBH, i do notice myself drifting further and farther away from main stream. Any main stream purchases are as much done through official channels prefering EPIC over Steam and acknowledging a Developers own portal over any general storefront.

One reason for me to keep making purchases through GoG is a...... hope ..... that any older games i support here will remain supported throughout the Windows-soap /// will eventually win their ticket in the ~remastered~ lottery

Totally agree...
No matter which platform and even if Steam got 10 times the amount of new releases... the gaming industry as a whole simply is pretty much busted with just a few really awesome titles, for me. Even the Indies... please stop the bad tasting "rogue likes" or what else it is called... it is just cheap to me... make real games... real saves. games that are simply a huge work and offer true replay value. I got not much good feelings for this new way of "replay value" which is just enforced and without freedom.

Good Indies are for example: Chained Echoes... Rise of the third Power or Crosscode... and yes, GoG got them all so i can be happy about.

Many releases are not even new... but i still do enjoy them, despite their age... such as "Trails to Azure":.. awesome games and very old already.

On PS5 i have maybe around 15 great games, on any other console close to no interest, and mainly older titles... many of them available on GoG, such as Skyrim... are really enjoyable, no matter its age. For new titles... if it have to be... can aswell use the PS5 for the few of them and magically, a top game "Horizon Zero Dawn", has been released on GoG aswell... i may be lucky.

I would not say GoG got a bad taste... they got a clue regarding good games but sure... many of the "big franchises" may not be released on GoG because customers simply do not care... Steam is simply overly supported so it pretty much is winning. However, i currently only got 4 Steam games totaly unable to avoid (in total 16 but most of them are shut down already because i got alternatives on GoG or elsewhere. Skyrim was one of them but now it is shut down, got a better version.)... so it is being played on Steam:
Rise of the Tomb Raider, Kuro no Kiseki, Final Fantasy 13 and Final Fantasy 8 Remake... and a bunch of them is on PS5 (about 15), all the others are DRM free and there is hundreds of them.

So the issue is not really big... but fact is, GoG is investing the lowest money into their platform... while Steam and especially Epic is pumping their platform with fresh cash like crazy.... so naturally... we have many unsolved issues on the GoG plattform and the users need to have a thick skin... using this platform. I just do not really care because my whole love is for the games... but it is true... the site really need some serious overhaul and more programming-force.

CD projekt red should invest more... else the customer trust may decrease and with decreased trust the platform itself may lose value... this is the problematic matter. The other 2 main-PC-competitors may even sacrifice their wallet, just in order to attract new customers... currently they simply are doing a better job. However, if it comes to my heart... GoG is the place to support.... and i was always folliowing my heart in my life.

To be honest, Steam is not even a site... rather a huge launcher-DRM-construct to me with the worlds biggest support from any side (gamer or industry) but not truly the stuff i enjoy... just bloated way to much. However... indeed... they have a serious programming-force and cash like mad, so their stuff usually works, which may give some trust. But neither my brain nor my heart is truly satisfied with... no matter how huge the programming-force... there is some serious lacks... lack of freedom, lack of warm-heartedness... and some more lack of stuff i do enjoy.

Crosmando: Every week I'm adding games to my Steam wishlist. I haven't added any to my GOG wishlist in quite a while.
In a way I agree, too many indie games, some very old games, too few 5-15 years old games that I would be mostly interested in.
Your forgot the new games, less than 5 years of age. For example "Old World"... probably a Civilization-Competitor but not even 1% of its "image"...so i did not really notice it until today.

Some games surely sell automatically just because of its "glorious name", and others might be just as great, but they rarely get the same attention.

Guess, if the name is "good" it can be half that good and still counts twice for a "follower"... weird enough but the trust always goes a long way. Sure, Civilization is 100% mainstream and a hard hitter... although not sure it may stay the best of its class. As long as there is no new Civ around, most people may say "there is no new game anymore"... guess people may become blind if they follow franchises the hard way.
