Nymes: But now that you know that your caution somehow hinders your progress and enjoyment of the game, maybe try to go all out next time? I can only speak for myself, but every time I set myself some kind of "perfectionism"-goals in games, like don't die, the game became tedious and felt like work, not like a game. Since I realized that, I am more relaxed overall in my gaming issues ;-)
I wouldn't say that I don't enjoy the game, but I understand what you mean. This game sometimes really feels like work to me. That's one of the reasons why I have to take a break after each level.

Going all out might indeed be more fun, but my problem is that I'm pretty sure that I will never complete the game if I do so.
I'm not trying to play for perfection, but at the end of each level you take health, amor and ammo over to the next one. So it's important to have a certain amount of these things when you complete a level. Playing more brave and wild without thinking about the stratagy might be more fun at first, but will probably lead to more frustration in the end when you have to replay whole levels, because you reach new ones without health and ammo and die within seconds.

Ah, so this game is kinda similar to Age of Wonders in that regard, I see... well, that's certainly a strong incentive to play almost perfectly!
Would you regard this as "bad" game design, as it tends to frustrate or disencourage the player too easily? Or would you say that gamers should put in some work to complete a title? ;-)

I wouldn't say it's bad game design. In fact it's quite realistic that you don't get ammo and health back at the end of the level (you stay at the same location). And for me it feels quite rewarding when I finally complete a level or a mission.

Quite often there are also health packs at the beginning of a level so there wouldn't be a need to be extremely careful. But as I play for the first time, I don't know beforehand and always assume that there won't be any.

I still remember playing the crypt level and starting it with 1 hp.
Died instantly when I dropped down every time I tried. xD

Progress update on Return to Castle Wolfenstein:

I've completed mission 5. The Über-Soldier really was a tough enemy and it took countless attempts to beat him. Heard that he's the strongest opponent in the game though and so I'm optimistic that I will be able to beat it soon.

The next mission will take me back to the castle and I assume there will be supernatural foes again (which I don't like).

Prepare for the final boss. >_<
He has an attack that takes off 50 hp.
Progress update on Return to Castle Wolfenstein:

I've completed level 6-1 and 6-2. Both weren't very hard, but once again had a good level design.

6-2 was a stealth mission. I have to admit that I wasn't sure which Nazis I had to kill and so in the end I killed them all. Wouldn't call that very stealthy, but none of them was fast enough to reach the alarm before I killed them and so it counts as a success. :)
Progress update on System Shock 2

I'm currently in Engineering Deck and I need to get to Engine Core to reenable the power to the elevator. I'm currently enjoying the game very much, but I can't play it for more then one or two hours because its very scary, so I will take a bit to beat it.

As I said, I can't play this game in longer seasons because it is scary, so I need a second game to play. Please choose my second game:

Black Mirror
Broken Sword 2
The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
Company of Heroes
Deus Ex Human Revolution( not the Director's Cut version)
Dustforce
Escape Goat
Fortix 2
GRID
Jet Set Radio

Glad to hear that you like your game, although it is scary ;-)
As for your second game, I strongly suggest Escape Goat! It is a very well made, but short, Puzzle Platformer with challenging level design. It is also something completely different compared to System Shock 2 ;-)

While I am at it, I can also give a...
Progress update on Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Assigned by Bass47

I made quite some progress since my last update and have almost finished the game. The only missions left are some optional missions in San Fierro given by Zero and Cesar and the very last mission of the storyline. But before I can attempt it, I have to conquer more gang territories in Los Santos first, which will also take some time.
I will probably finish it this week, depending on my free time. ;-)

As I said before, the story is quite nice, but controls and camera are sometimes horrible, especially when you are flying. Overall, I think I liked Vice City more although it is hard to pinpoint why exactly. I probably enjoyed the setting more, but maybe it's just nostalgia.

I liked Vice City too very much too, especially the music. When I first played San Andreas I had the same problems with the camera but with time I got used to it :-)
Welcome to the Gentleman's Backlog Club! :-)
From your games, I suggest Legend of Grimrock. It's a game which intrigued me for quite some time, yet I have still to play - like hundreds of others... In addition, you can play it on Linux! Have fun :-)
May I suggest Treasure Adventure Game? It's an awesome platform game in retro style and I really enjoyed it when I played it about two or three years ago.

Edit: Nymes was faster than me. But Legend of Grimrock is an awesome game too.

Progress report on Return to Castle Wolfenstein:
The boss fight against the Über-Soldier at the end of mission 5 was quite hard and frustrating and so I was curious what they would come up with at the end of mission 6. And the anwer is: Two Über-Soldiers!

[sarcastic mode on] Well done, developers! I really applaud your creativity! [/sarcastic mode off]

37 attempts later I was able to beat them and I made my way to the final mission. Level 7-1 was fun again, but in comparison to the former missions you hardly find any good amor and ammo (especially for my favourite weapon the Venom gun). I hope I will be prepared when I meet the final boss at level 7-3.

I think I will complete the game today or tomorrow (if the last fight isn't against three Über-Soldiers).

I also beat my second game "Beware Planet Earth!" yesterday and I will start playing Grim Fandango now. Does anyone want me to write about my progress here?
