Rohan15: What?! I try that with Winrar and it only goes to 100 megs less the original size.
7zip pwns all.

bansama: The EA downloader states it wants 14 gigs. I guess they could be a little clearer and state the download size and the space required on the hard drive. I guess I'll download it tomorrow if it's only a 7 gig download.

Navagon: Bah. Compressing it with 7zip leaves 314 MB over the size of a DVD. Oh well.
You back up to DVDs? They're a dead medium!

People these days only back up to blu-ray, SSD, solid gold diamond encrusted USB flash drives and other such cost effective media.

I'd be backing up to Blu-Ray or SSD if it wasn't for the usual price gouging that is so rampant here. Sadly, 'tis still far more cost effective to back up to DVD even though it's time consuming and since I moved to Win 7 I've been burning more coasters than usable discs =(

Prices will come down eventually. But I think that the main reason blu-ray is still so pricey is due to the slow uptake. Most people don't really need a drive capable of burning 25GB to one disc.

Although that would definitely decrease the amount of backups I have, the risk of coasters is unacceptable financially; and backing up would be time consuming enough as it is.
speaking about DVD and CD
Thanks to ARTISJUS ( local RIAA) we have to pay more after each plain CD,DVD,CF, MMC, MS, Smart Media, SD, mini SD, xD, optical disc, audio and video cassette,Pendrive, USB Flash Drive

I just think that you could simply buy a massive portable hard drive and you can fit your crap in that. You could probably save money over time unless you have *that* many games you have to buy like, a million hard drives or something.

I had an external. It died. Everything was lost. If a DVD gets damaged somehow (which is a lot less likely) then I only have to redownload that disc's worth of games.
Direct 2 Drive sale:
