ariaspi: Probably you misunderstood what I was trying to say and maybe my wording should have been more clear. When I said "These devs deserve the backlash", I was referring to the overall negative reaction, not to the death threats. Of course death threats are not okay, but that is to be expected in today's world - no matter what someone will say, there will be someone else to be offended by it. So I'm indifferent to such threats, and usually the ones that make a fuss about them want to play the victim card (and to be clear, I'm referring to those that start/say something bad/stupid and then cry when it bites them in the ass).
==========================
I don't know anything more about this subject than what was said in this thread and the
posted conversation. Didn't read OP's article. So, I assume there were a few threats made by some lunatics, or even worse, were made by some people who like to stir up shit to create some internet drama and get some clicks on their articles. Were the threats by the hundreds? I doubt it, but I also don't care because I would not say such stupid things as those devs. I guess some are more chilled, or deal with bigger issues, in some parts of the world and don't take seriously what a nobody says on the internet.
==========================
People should go out and face the world, have some life experience. More and more people scared of everything - let's coddle them so we can have weaker people. I blame this mostly on poor parenting. And also, this reminds me of " we need easy mode in every game".
====================
Also, I'm not equating anything, just pointing out that one can end up in jail for the stupidest things, regardless if guilty or innocent.
I get that most will let such slide off them mentally(the threats), but I still don't think it is acceptable for others to keep pelting even arsehats with such comments.
If people want to be rude to other rude people there are acceptable ways to do so...we are not cavemen/women anymore, after all.
(Also a few people wll be impacted by them over time and we don't know if any of them are serious or not, which is why I do not advocate for anyone saying such online with maybe a few exceptions....like if playing an online game and someone who is a friends says stuff like "I'm gonna 'murd*r' your n))b arse for that camping/360noscope/etc")
=====================
I know little about it as well. And yes, the comments were probably fewer than reported/it's made out to be. I still don't like people doing such, though.
Also as I said above: One cannot tell if one making such threats is serious or not, and that is why they cannot be tolerated and must be looked into when they are done. Otherwise we have more sh**ters doing stuff because no one took their threats seriously.
=====================
People also shouldn't have to wonder if that random commentor is some weirdo who knows their address/etc who can do something to act on such threats or not.
I agree we shouldn't let everything scare/bother us but we also shouldn't let threats slide...especially if they are worded seriously enough and the person is an unknown to the one being threatened.
