Strijkbout: I don't find voice acting terribly important as long as it doesn't break the immersion, most voice acting is pretty lame though people tend to give it high praise because they use the same voice actors over and over and the voices are familiar to them.
I find that if the VO is too recognizable with no variation from game to game, it breaks immersion for me. Oh great, it's Troy Baker....

Bouchart: Wizard of Wor had bad voice acting but that was in the early 1980s. Have no idea what it's saying.
That's not too bad. If I heard that when that game when it was released, I'd have to do a double take and wonder "did the machine just talk? Amazing!" There's a certain charm to hearing old arcade/PC games like the Atari Star Wars games use the boards to emulate speech when they weren't even made to do that.

Indeed (was #1 in the previous post). And the rest doesn't look too good either.

This was a source of wonder back then...
When "bad voice acting" comes up I immediately think of Two Worlds - as others have said, though, "so bad it's good." Or at least amusing. The original "Spellforce" had some bad acting (reading) in the tutorial; itwaslikethepersondidn'tknowhowtopacewords.

For "good," I'd say Mount and Blade. Ha ha. Joke.

VTMB. Thief: Deadly Shadows. It's so easy for me to hear Garrett's voice in my head; sometimes he narrates my own life!
"Lost Crown" and "Black Mirror" are notorious for bad voice acting, and yet I love them both dearly and I enjoy the voice acting. XD
in conquer online if you create a male character of any class and you pick large body, your dude will make hilarious sounds when he dies - like he's vomiting his guts. too bad i can't pick large body because it comes with a jump speed penalty but whenever you see a large body player you can kill him for the laughs. and in neverwinter nights 1 there are 3 mods Blackguard - there's a rogue who can join your party and he's voice is real crazy he shouts "STAY AWAY FROM MEEEEEEE!" while charging at the enemies. i don't understand - why he says them to go away if he runs to them?

lost crown is that game with ghost hunting? i finished that shit long ago. yes sometimes voice was amateur but not always. and why you love that dearly - adventure games have no replay value

Downfall Redux has terrible voice acting for the most post, still pretty enjoyable though.

Silent Hill 3's voice acting is just weird.

Agreed, too bad she's the only good one I remember. :P
Venetica: the voice acting is so bad, that its hilariously good!

The game is also on sale atm for about $3
Funny that you explicitly mention the various accents in Baldurs Gate...
I remember the release in Germany and the many outcries about the crappy voice acting. They dared to try mimicking the English version and used several different german accents. That was unheard of.

I quite liked it though. At that time my english was not good enough yet to play original, and i found the bavarian Edwin quite funny.
The entirety of the Legacy Of Kain series has some of the best acting I've ever heard in a video game, very memorable dialogue that is delivered perfectly.

As far as bad dialogue goes, its hard to find anything worse than House Of The Dead 2, dear god its so bad its hilarious.

Edit: Scratch that, Kreed takes the cake for the worst voice acting

jimmmmmo: Devine divinity has bad voice acting, but thats why its so hilarious
Ok, I don't know the English version of Divine Divinity, but the German voice acting is not so bad - however, I do know the English version of Beyond Divinity, and the voice acting is, well, beyond shitty.

Exactly - To this day, BG1 is THE prime example for bad voice acting in Germany. I was 13 when it was released and I didn't mind - I still don't. The only thing that stood out to me was the Saxon voice set for the player character, which I never used.

I really need to play the English version one day, just to see how different it is.

By the way, another game that is notorious for its "bad" German version is Diablo 2 - not so much the voice acting, but things like names and such. I recently played the English version for a bit to see how much better it really is, and to my surprise the answer was "barely". To me it felt almost exactly the same in every aspect, down to the voices - some of which I thought were better in the German version. And I never got why "Baumkopf Holzfaust" is supposed to be more ridiculous than "Treehead Woodfist". It's both basically Spongebob Squarepants/Schwammkopf to me. ;)

See this thread in the forums, think of a couple of games to mention...

Open the thread to find out it is from 2016, and I already mentioned those games way back then :D

dtgreene: I believe Baldur's Gate (and its sequel) and Planescape: Torment have voice acted lines that really shouldn't have been.

In Baldur's Gate and its sequel, there's the line "You must gather your party before venturing forth", which you hear if you try to leave an area when someone in the party isn't nearby; it's not uncommon for this message to come up repeatedly when waiting for the rest of the party to catch up. (The fact that the game forces you to rely on pathfinding for movement instead of just letting you move with the arrow keys doesn't help, as well as the lack of a "move in formation" feature.)

Planescape: Tormant's line isn't as annoying, but it's still there: "Updated my journal.".

Really, why did they choose to voice act these system messages? It's not like there's a person in-game saying these lines.

I believe there is actually a mod for the Baldur's Gate series that actually gets rid of the voice acting for that specific line.

(Icewind Dale does have the "gather party" line, but it isn't voice acted.)
The thread is old but in case you were wondering...it's likely to draw attention to the fact(In PS:T) that there is new info in your journal in case one doesn't read the system dialog lines in the window.

morrowslant: Hilariously bad voicework kind of defines the Battletech genre.
Divine Divinity 1 will have you diving for the sound control panel within seconds.
Beyond Divinity keeps the bad voicework trend going.
Bah, I liked the BD dialog. :\

Fun Fact: In the German Version, this line was incorrectly translated to something like "You must further enlarge the party before venturing forth" and when I first played it I always thought "How? I already got 6 people in it". :D
