jimmmmmo: Devine divinity has bad voice acting, but thats why its so hilarious
Ok, I don't know the English version of Divine Divinity, but the German voice acting is not so bad - however, I do know the English version of Beyond Divinity, and the voice acting is, well, beyond shitty.
Ranayna: Funny that you explicitly mention the various accents in Baldurs Gate...
I remember the release in Germany and the many outcries about the crappy voice acting. They dared to try mimicking the English version and used several different german accents. That was unheard of.
I quite liked it though. At that time my english was not good enough yet to play original, and i found the bavarian Edwin quite funny.
Exactly - To this day, BG1 is THE prime example for bad voice acting in Germany. I was 13 when it was released and I didn't mind - I still don't. The only thing that stood out to me was the Saxon voice set for the player character, which I never used.
I really need to play the English version one day, just to see how different it is.
By the way, another game that is notorious for its "bad" German version is Diablo 2 - not so much the voice acting, but things like names and such. I recently played the English version for a bit to see how much better it really is, and to my surprise the answer was "barely". To me it felt almost exactly the same in every aspect, down to the voices - some of which I thought were better in the German version. And I never got why "Baumkopf Holzfaust" is supposed to be more ridiculous than "Treehead Woodfist". It's both basically Spongebob Squarepants/Schwammkopf to me. ;)
