It takes a special kind of idiot to thank the Mafia for putting an end to crime. :P

Gengar78: Pardon me tinyE, but I may have noticed an inconsistency.

Not to long ago you exposed someone for bringing up something unrelated to the topic at hand. So why now are you talking about how bad Bradley boy is (and he doesn't seem very nice) when he is just asking about what games have runes in them? Not that I would be more consistent with that moral, I can't go 17 nanoseconds without inserting Freddi Fish 2 into every thread ever!

In any case, I await your rebuttal.
Fair question, and TBH I make an exception with Bradley. I stand by my earlier statement and would never think of doing that to anyone.....except Bradley.

He uses this forum as an outlet for his hatred which if he just kept to appropriate and specified threads and posts would be fine, but by using that avatar he is forcing EVERYONE that comes into this forum to take a whiff of his bullshit and hate mongering, even the poor guy who just wants some help with GALAXY. Someone should be able to come in here and ask something simple without the answer coming with a side of "I hate fags."

I have told Bradley countless times, lose the avatar and I will never bother him again. If he wants to wave that thing around, especially in this day and age, he has to understand it comes with repercussions.

I will also admit that the post you quoted was made by me because I was a little pissed off at that particular instance. That was a personal biased reaction and so I guess in that regard I should be sorry about going off on RetroPopz.

TARFU: I actually prefer forums where the mods take a light hand. Reminds me of the old heydays of the internet, chat rooms, etc.

Just let any opinions you disagree with roll off of you like water off a duck's back.

Breja: Ok, a few things.

I do not like heavy moderation. I agree about that. But we have NONE. I believe that puts a certain responsibility on us, especially given how many people actually want to keep it that way (no moderation that is). If that's how people want to keep it, than they should themselves keep some standards.

Second- the great thing about this forum used to be you didn't need to have a "titanium skin". Why are we suddenly so accepting of this being the new norm for us here?

Like I said, I'm not bothered by insults directed at me, it's not about my feelings getting hurt. I've been called many "nice" things by some of my esteemed colleagues on this forum. I'm not calling for them to be ostracized, and I am not a member of any minority. It's not a personal matter. And it's not about "opinions I disagree with". I'm not saying people who say we should ban creationists and people who belive that the Earth is flat. It's about nazi-level rhetorics about subhumans or gas chambers (the latter wasn't Bradley, but we're arguing the princple I think, not just his case). It's about trying to keep this a friendly place for people who do not have a skin made of titanium, who are not hardened by facing the worst of the internet since ninteen ninty fuck.

I've been here for a couple of years. I have benefited from this community's generosity, sense of humor, game recommendations. I am not the most active or "community-minded" person here. But still, I do feel a certain obligation to try and keep this place as friendly for others as it was when I found it. And a certain obligation to just, as a decent human being, not to let such level of hatred and base, mundane evil slide. That's why I think we need some moderation here, for extreme cases, and failing that, we need to show such people the door ourselves, as well as we can.

timppu: I have to agree with this. Maybe I haven't followed closely all of his writings, but at worst I've found them silly more than something to get worked up over. Like that story about his kickboxing dwarf ex-girlfriend who threatened to kick his ass, I got a chuckle over it.

Ok, a few replies.

1. You are quite funny, my Polish friend. I got a laugh out of your "nineteen ninety fuck" and references to my remark about "titanium skin". The most laughing I've done in quite a while on this forum, in fact. Well done.

2. Just remember that "nazi rhetoric" and blah blah bullshit about gas chambers can only hurt you if you give it that power. The nazis, Italians, and Japanese lost in their bid for world conquest. Anyone still advocating their ideologies is just in denial and is worthy of being ignored in relation to anything having to do with those ideologies.

3. This is a games forum with little to no moderation. Most of us know this and police ourselves accordingly. If someone spouts controversial political blather, feel free to ignore them and their posts on that matter. However, if the same people are friendly and polite and want to talk about games/gaming, it's your choice to ignore them or not. I just happen to choose to take the friendly route.

4. I doubt anyone gets banned by IP address here, just account. So if one person (a persistent troll) gets banned, it is just like cutting off one head of the hydra, they will be back with a new sock puppet account soon, you can be sure. Why not kill them with kindness, ignore the blather, talk about games and forget about the rest. Besides, I know I have better things to do than use my valuable time trying to be the policeman of the internet.

5. A couple of quotes: " An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind." and:
" The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
They're attributed to the same guy. Think about it a bit.

- Riven
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Runes are used in Riven puzzles, some of the puzzles are very difficult but not impossible. Definitely a game that favours the mathematical/technical mind.

In Skyrim, runes appear on stones in ancient caves which must be turned around to match a certain order to unlock a passageway, or to match a certain order on a special claw object you are carrying in order for the claw to be able to unlock a doorway that leads into some ancient ruins etc. Technically, these are more pictographs than runes however, but similar idea.

TARFU: There's a lot of gray area open to interpretation in between those two extremes.
True, but Bradley's new avatar and signature ... Thing has a real possibility of driving GOG customers away as soon as they notice those, so I'd say it's definitely case of the latter. Besides, I don't mind when people explain away their standpoint, even if they're being arseholes during the process (albeit yes, you absolutely did not need thick skin on these boards some time ago), but hiding behind logos and empty slogans is never constructive in any way.

So fight nazis by ignoring them. Maybe throw in a hug and some flowers. They'll understand.
I wonder what would have happened back in WWII if people like you were the majority...

A war this huge would likely not have happened. Nazi Germany only fought back because France and Britain played the white knights and attacked first, even though they were not threatened at the time.

Germany lost there bid for world conquest in the first World War. Everyone ignored them when they tried again, and guess what happened?
That's right, Second World War.

I agree in general about letting the little stuff go and ignoring it, but in Bradley's case I think some action needs to be taken as he is a vile excuse for a human being. Letting people proudly display an avatar like that is really not acceptable, and if Gog as a site won't do anything about it then we as a community should.

Yes yes... "ignore them, they're trolls. they'll go away." I can't tell if you're just naive or if it's nazi propaganda amateu hour.

Fenixp: There's constructive and there's destructive sharing of ideas and opinions. The former is helpful and useful. The latter is ... Well, not.
I have to agree with that statement. I've both observed and used the term "constructive criticism" over the years, and while I myself do criticize this or that from time to time, the idea that criticism is ever constructive is an oxymoron IMHO. What is potentially useful is constructive feedback. Criticism is never constructive, it is a negative destructive force. I'm not opposed to anyone using it outright, and as I said I myself use it but if anyone is being truly honest with themselves I think the idea that criticism being looked at as constructive or positive thing is maligned. We're always better off if we can choose to avoid it, even though we're all human and we don't always choose to avoid it.

skeletonbow: Criticism is never constructive, it is a negative destructive force.
Actually, criticism is, by definition, always constructive. To criticize something, you need to have a good knowledge of the area of your criticism, you need to be able to make a logical and rational evaluation of the target of your criticism, you need to be able to back your criticism by strong, rational arguments and you need to be willing to defend your criticism. Critical thinking is one of the most essential skills that just about everybody should work on improving, lest he'll spend his life doing a lot of inefficient and pointless tasks.

What is an oxymoron is negative criticism as there's no such thing. The moment criticism isn't achieved by analyzing known facts, well argumented and rational, that very moment it ceases to be criticism and becomes baseless bashing.
That maggot fuck is in another thread right now defending himself.

Boggles the mind how someone, who doesn't live in a cave, can manage to get passed over by the rest of the world like that.

The blues don't give a flying fuck about that sort of behaviour. At best, they tell you they will scold that person, gently. They don't even delete those hateful messages, even years-old ones (do you want links?). They haven't dignified the last message I sent them with an answer, so it's safe to say there's nothing to expect from Gog's support.
