Yes, this is another shameless carbon copy of a thread on NeoGaf.
So a lot of games have become something which in hindsight weren't such a good idea because of community feedback. I'll post a few examples to get the ball rolling.
Cuphead, for example was set to be a fast paced boss rush based on the animation styling of old rubber hose cartoons, until feedback somehow convinced the developer to also include platforming sequences, causing this already delayed game another massive delay.
Starbound was poised to be an excellent spiritual successor to Terraria of sorts, and then the community happened. And then they stopped listening. And then I don't know what happened.
But it went from, "Every playable species will have their own story" to "You're all part of the protectorate. Even though this doesn't make sense and also you start at Earth which becomes a digestive biscuit for what should be an easily visible monster. In spite of this, we somehow didn't expect it.". Not to mention there was a bit of a tonal shift overall, going from shades of gray in terms of storytelling to, "These are obvious badguys. Go singlehandedly take care of them."
...Yeah, the changes in Starbound were a bit of a massive letdown to me.
So with those examples in mind, what games do you feel were damaged, ruined, or otherwise changed for the worse because rather than simply make games as they pleased, they decided to lend thine ears to the fickle masses?
