omega64: I disagree, there are good things on tv, the issue is they're mostly years old and constantly interrupted by commercials.
Which is basically what i said. I'd prefer stuff that was good. MASH, Fraggle rock, Next generation, etc. But those aren't on, instead they put really crappy stuff on every single station and channel like Spongebob Squarepants, Ed Edd and Eddie, and other things. Reminds me of what G4
USED to be when i enjoyed it back in 2000 before they made it an all gaming channel, namely talking about Tech, new tech, fixing stuff, what to get and not to get, reviewing hardware and software,
DO-IT-YOURSELF type of stuff, etc.
Plus quite a few good things have to be taken with a grain of salt, or rather a block of salt. I enjoy MythBusters for example, and most of their material is probably unaltered. However there are hints and obvious references that things were changed to keep things livened up, and more importantly if they discovered something that would really change something (
like say finding out the proper way to make a self-charging battery for free energy) it would have to be cut or highly altered so the results don't suggest we can get free energy and skip paying the power plant. That and everything needs to be blown up afterwards with C4 afterwards seemingly. Yeah for their 30 hours they put into it, having a few 5 minutes of blowing things up is probably deserved, but we seeing it every 20 minutes quickly gets annoying.
All in all, there isn't enough that's truly interesting or useful to me to justify the $80-$200/month bill that DirectTV/Dish Network want to shove on me for getting the discovery channel and a few other select stations. Plus i watched very closely and there's a few hints that even shows that might have interested me are all scripted and fake, meaning Discovery isn't about learning but entertainment. If they threw in the Playboy channel for free, then maybe i'd have something to watch that i was interested in.
