Ciris: TL;DR -- We're working on a solution to the harrassment issue. More news next week.
Would have been VERY nice if you people had done that from the start. Also would have been nice to bring that up when mario first started these threads.

But you do realize that these vulgar threads were created because of the nes4000000 situation....right? (I hope so)

mrmarioanonym: sure, ban the person who swore to get your attention, not the person posting porn and making death threats.
it would be great publicity for you.
avatar
wosiix: Buddy i saw this thread popping all day no wonder you will get banned for making everything less friendly here for others!

Stay safe or please its best to leave from here with your pouring remarks here about policy, staff and site.

I have nothing personal with you just an opinion for your misbehavior. Cheers! :)
and there's two of his alts.

phaolo: Really? Oh this could be good!

Suggestion: find a way to identify alts, require a real unique email with confirmation for new accounts, hide but don't delete reported posts to keep the proofs.

alts-demasker: yes send me a copy of pimp 2011 alts madness :))))))))
see how many roots to this site he has

Dude.. "menacing" (moreover with poor threats, as 1 less user is trivial) those who could help you is never a good tactic..

you're right.

I agree this is absolutely unacceptable and completely irresponsible. The person in question has been making a complete mockery of the broken systems like rep on the forum in this very thread as well as the lack of an official email requirement which makes it easy to create multiple accounts.

Ciris: I'll just address the issue that you're asking about.

I got a message a while back from a user about the issue and as soon as I did, I passed it on to others in the company. Since then, we've been looking at various options of how to solve the problem (either temporarily while we work on a permanent solution or permanently from the start), and I'll be able to provide you with more information next week as to what exactly it will be - I don't want to announce a new functionality before it's sure to be implemented.

TL;DR -- We're working on a solution to the harrassment issue. More news next week.
and gog couldn't have taken a few minutes to actually TELL us that ?
instead fo stone walling us as usual

it took 3 days and two threads like this to even get your attention and all we get at first is a prewritten reply
that seems to assume we are all a bunch of toddlers in need of a scolding

It's a good point though. Since GOG advertises their community, the forum is actually a representative constituent of the overall service. It's conceivable that people come to this site, wonder what it's all about, check the forum and then decide "wow this place is horrible and I'm not giving it business."

Communities can make or break business. You either embrace the community that's grown around your service or you don't. In short, GOG either moves the forum off-site or they hire a community manager.

mrmarioanonym: i temporarily opened up my PM to everyone again and wrote her this:

what is wrong with you people? i had to get your attention somehow and you don't acknowledge the bullying going on?
death threats, DDoS threats, porn links, strong insults,
i'm not the perpetrator here. i'm not the one you should be scolding. you should be scolding yourselves, all of you who didn't respond all week, and the bully.
you know, i'm really not sure i want to buy more of your products if this is how you treat your customers
I'll reply here, as my/your message settings are not allowing me to send a PM directly (plus I do want to send this message to others as well).

By no means did I intend to target you personally in my post - I mean, yeah, it's not ideal to see a forum thread with the pre-edited title and it did require moderation, but we do NOT plan to ban you, as we do understand your motives in creating the thread.

Having said that, if someone goes "haha, that was funny, we can swear in forum topics!" and starts creating such threads for the sake of it, that's not cool.

BillyMaysFan59: At least you finally noticed the vulgar thread title, kudos for that. Any comment on the situation which brought this up though? (I.e. nes and his alts) I'm also surprised it took you people this long to edit the title.

I'll believe it when I see it. You and the rest of the staff have lost all credibility when it comes to delivering on meaningful changes and improvements around here. You won't address security issues, you can't even get the website to operate in a stable manner and you have allowed this situation to get completely out of hand with months of silence. Now you expect us to believe you are "working on a solution"? You've had the solution all along: take an active role in the managing of your community. Make someone, anyone, responsible for monitoring and maintaining your "classy community" instead of sitting back and ignoring it until it becomes a problem so unbearable, threads like this happen. The "laissez faire" managing of this community was fine when GOG was just a niche market with relatively tiny usebase, but GOG has grown since then. It's well past time the staff responsibilities have grown with GOG.

Okay, first off, the problem was noted as soon as I got the message mentioned above, and that's when we started dealing with it. However, as we weren't sure by when we'd be able to produce a successful, tested, and working method of dealing with at least part of the problem, I didn't want to promise delivering a solution soon that would take a while longer to create.

Secondly, the reply was not pre-written - I wrote it in reply to the two threads and simply reposted them in both. It's not a message template or something like that, it's a reply I worked out with my coworkers to the issue, after gathering information from them on what solutions we might have now/soonish, and what we plan on doing if threads appear in the future in which swearing would be used for the sole sake of swearing.

I'm not assuming anyone's not mature enough to understand the issue (chat/forum harrassment), and I'm not saying we don't care about it, and I'm not saying that everyone here did something wrong for participating in the thread - I just want to put it out there that, until we create and implement moderation tools that would allow us to easier control threads where being offensive is used just for the sake of being offensive in a way that may target or hurt others, we'll take action.

Basically don't let the GOG forums turn into the Steam forums.

Its amazing that the Escapist Forums has a 24/7 mods monitering. (Even though they tend to ban alot of people even for the most minor of infractions)

i repeat: and you couldn't have at least written a simple "acknowledged". that doesn't promise anything, but it would've helped defusing the situation.

i will also believe all of that when i see
so far the gog moderators have done nothing
nothing at all to make us believe that now all of a sudden things are actually being worked on

we have been stonewalled for months and the situation has spiraled out of control and now all of a sudden after the users forced the situation we are supposed to believe in good faith it will be resolved ?

because so far gog has done very little to warrant any such a leap of faith

the first response was insulting scolding us like children while it was created to get a response anything out of gog and not even bothering to address the reason this thread was made in the first place

as codagh says the forum needs moderation this community has grown with leaps and bounds and the forum software and gogs attitude towards managing the community has been left behind
and its high time gog finally does something
or at the very least give the users that block button we have been clamoring about

but i will believe it when i see it
