Theme/setting is Renaissance Europe, and most of the trappings you'll see in your own role (and others) will make sense. The giant squid was a joke - topical humor given squids in the news last week.
Oops...interrupted to go deal with a child who won't poop. Will add a bit more after thatproblem is solved if Wyrm hasn't jumped in first.

Well I'll cut it lest it's confusing. In any case, it still looks like mafia to me on the whole. PMs (and any clarifying questions) should make it clear to each player what they should be trying to do.

That was a joke, there was never a giant squid.... XD
I'd leave it to Bookwyrm to say what he wants about what type of game it is as it's his game.

Just to throw a couple cents into the conversation...
You probably shouldn't answer, either...
Issues to consider with an "additional goals" type of game...
1) Typically mafia is a "team" game where a good townie will take one for the team by revealing discovered information often resulting in one's early demise. Hopefully your "objectives" still allow a dead person to complete them. Else it turns the game into a big "not me" game where people are individually more worried about not dying than winning for town. It would really kinda suck to pick the right person to investigate, reveal it to town, get gacked at night and then lose on the leaderboard because of one's early death despite making the most important town move of the game. It would also suck to be rated low on a leaderboard just because you were an early night kill. "Not me" games tend to become a lot of people not saying anything. Survival should not necessarily be rewarded over good insight.

Regarding the setup:
The general setting is a medieval town, and a civil war has broken out in the assassin's guild. Following a riot, the Foreigner's Quarter is sealed until the chaos dies down. You will each be playing one person that is stuck in the Foreigner's Quarter; each of you will be attempting to complete your own objectives (which may or may not have anything to do with the mafia war which is going on).
I'll try to post some more details later, when the child has had dinner and gone to bed. It is hard to share without spilling too much while I'm busy babysitting.
