BlueMooner: I was irritated at players who didn't post much day 1, and at C for getting lynched for lurking of all things, and then I go and disappear, so I'm irritated at myself.
I had plans I wanted to explore, see what possibilities there were, but that didn't happen. The two mafia deaths in two days, followed by an almost certain third, was really disheartening to me. Then there was all the talk of mass claim which I still think is a very bad idea, and then the job loss.
Couple things - CSP was lynched as much for his play/roles in PRIOR games as for his play in this one. There was a note in the scum thread that said "Why him and not Sage/Cristi?" which echoed something I said in the observer thread. Poop happens.
That said, even getting behind doesn't necessarily mean a loss. Game 28 scum was a team of 3 and lost one N1, and another D3 and still won. You don't necessarily know what other forces or out there or how town might fall apart until the end. It would have been hard for a new player to win in that scenario, but it wasn't set in stone yet. Though Adalia making 2 notable slips back-to-back late in D2 didn't help things. ;)
As for the game itself, people lurk for different reasons. Hijack
has his reasons, while other people just play that way out of habit or have RL stuff come up.
Likewise, despite the fact that the loudest voices might tell you otherwise, there's not really broad agreement on 'how to play.' In any given game mass claim might be a good idea, or it might be a terrible idea. Lynching all lurkers might be great, or it might be bad. And even the same people may view it differently across different games - that may be a tell as to something they're hiding, or it may really just be a change in philosophy or tactical reality.
In the end all you can do is play and keep fighting through it and sorting out your own views and playstyle.
Or, you know, sit out in the observer thread and criticize everyone else's views and playstyle ;)
