Of note:

The version of Nocturne released in the US is not the original. The original had different difficulty settings, lacked a certain huge optional area (along with the ending acquired by clearing that area), and didn't have Dante in it. It also lacked certain bosses, notably Matador (who is rather difficult for the point in the game at which he appears, especially if playing on Hard mode).

My personal recommendation would be to play on Normal on your first playthrough. I started on Hard and stopped playing in part because I was worried about the game getting too frustrating, and in part because I disliked the music. (I also don't like the fact that the main character, who has no default name and is presumably intended to represent the player, must be male.)

Personally, I consider any game that does not fit on a CD-ROM to be larger than I would like. Remember, back in the day, they distributed games on floppy disks.

Of note, it appears that you could fit FF6, compressed, on 2 floppies, and that was not a small game. Contrast that with the number of floppies that would be needed to fit FFX at that size.

Actually, the problem with cutscenes you mention with FF10 is one of the many reasons I loathe FF7.

Gameplay-wise, FF5 > FF3 (and every other FF game, and most non-FF games, for that matter).

This is bound to be an unpopular opinion here but it kinda bothers me that many former console exclusives are gradually being ported to PC. It's that whole "don't half-ass exclusivity" thing as some game critic beautifully said a while ago. Guess I'm just desperately clinging to the holy trinity of consoles and worried by anything that threatens their reason to be.

That said, got FF X/X-2 HD for PS3 more than a year ago and was hugely disappointed. I had already been hugely let down by FF VIII back n the day, was expecting more from FF X. Not a big fan of the setting or story and well, guess I'll just never get into JRPG gameplay.

GTA:SA, God of War 1+2, Tekken and many more. At least my favourite games are still working, but I'm not going to feed them to my PS 2 anymore, have to get a second-hand Playstation at this point.

I agree for the most part. There's a lot of data in 650Mb, often a huge portion that was used (and still takes up so much space) is video.

FF6 being entirely sprite based and having cartridge limits of about 8Mb can determine what you can put in the games. But there's so many good large games that don't take up that much space. One of my original exposures to RPG games was Phatasy Star 4. It only takes up a handful of megabytes in actual rom size, and dozens of hours of adventuring (although if you cut out the fighting then it could probably be experienced in a few hours).

Game development I think needs to change. They need to target PS2 level of hardware limitations, memory and disc size and the like, and build for that. If there's extra time/money afterwards they can raise the bar for graphical look/feel. Pushing for huge games that are all flash and no content just isn't how games are suppose to be.

they have been aspiring to be like movies ever since ninja gaiden's cutscenes
and now they finally have the raw power to be just that

I loved FF X.
X-2 was... okay. I absolutely despised 12. First time I put my controller down, shut down the console and said to myself: I'm bored.

- Hmm did you hate the story because it was Tidus' story and not YOUR story? :P.
I liked the story quite a bit.
- I found the characters interesing and believable.
- The voice acting wasn't that great in retrospect. It was the first game I played with voice acting I believe.
- Blitzball was great! I loved it. I could shoot from my own goal post with Tidus and manage to score.
- The upgrade system was fine. I managed to get all stats to 255 except for luck with Tidus, Yuna & Riku.
- I did not even realise it was a year late in europe. But our european version got the dark aeons and other cool stuff the folks at the USA never got back then. So we got better content. I still use my big boxy TV so the aspect ratio has never been a problem to me.
- You paid 75 euro? I recall paying 60. You must've been ripped off.
- What's wrong with jamaican accents? I liked it xD

Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And we just have a big opposite opinion on FF X.
Can we at least agree that 12 was horrible and 2 unplayable?

Hmm, I guess I will stick with my Nocturne's version, just like I sticked with FF X International because it had more content. That was some small exceptions to my rule.

Of course I am going to play them on normal mode. I don't like playing games on easy, and I only play on Hard if it has some additional content. I usually see Normal as the way developers intended the game to be played.

i got a ps2 compatible ps3 for around 80 euro
but its partial emulated ( tekken tag for example is unplayable )

and the p4 doesnt play ps2 games

ps2's are so cheap nowadays you mght as well replace you unit
