So the TL;DR: Facebook is toxic with a capital T. Most of you are not shocked at this news.

Especially when it comes to privacy.

In short? Let's fulfill this wishlist option.

Facebook was a mistake. Nothing but trash.
I quit facebook in 2016.
Best choice of the decade.
The Facebook login is "Currently unavailable" on GOG.

Like clockwork.
I had a fb account from Dec '10 till June '12 and then I deleted it. One of the best decisions I ever made.
Unfortunately due to Covid pandemic, some lessons of mine had to be done in messenger, so I re-subscribed, but I NEVER log in Facebook.
I can't. Too many contacts I can only reach there or the messenger. I have my account currently disabled, but my messenger active. There are some IRL people that I can only get on messenger oddly enough. My co-host doesn't answer his texts, but he does answer his messenger messages. Weird, but that is how some people are. Can't much recommend the site itself now. Especially when you get banned for typing just about anything. They're very strict on speech.

Nothing of value was lost.
Social media in general was a mistake.
Good to see Facebook leave GOG.
GOG.com still calls the facebook.net script though (see attached pic). Would be nice to remove twatter integration along with it.

Indeed, the integrations and logos in the site corner are a bit of an eyesore.
Facebook was a great idea ... in theory ... maybe.
But once you create a monster, you need to keep feeding it.
And then it gets way out of control, and those running it are likely in denial.

A shame it has become far more negative than positive now.

Still it was good to catch up with lots of old friends, while I was using it ... until it drove me away.

I cannot deny it was a grand but deeply flawed social experiment. Some good things did come from it, at least for me, and it did help some of the oppressed for a while.

What it needs is some philanthropist to decouple all the advertising and related, remove big business from the picture etc, and require accountability from everyone who uses it.

And bring back anonymity.
There used be a time where you can hide yourself on facebook so that random people can't find you.
They removed that feature.

They also got really insistent that you use your real name and picture.

Some of the book's content is stating the obvious, but still a fascinating read.

But yes, according to the book's author, Facebook's operating model is leading to the decline of traditional news sources (that have actual journalistic integrity) in favour of fake news that maximize click count revenues from a more polarized audience.

I didn't use Facebook so i just posted News on my feed... Yet facebook had to ban me. Maybe they disagreed with public information, or it broke their narrative.

People existed hundreds of years before Myspace or Facebook were a thing. I think we can go on living without it.

Oh, that's been happening, Facebook was simply an accelerator, like putting benzine in a propane fire. People have been complaining about a lack of journilistic integrity around the time Walter Cronkite signed off on his last broadcast.

Just kidding, it's been a thing since the media was even a concept.
