FlockeSchnee: (My thoughts:
If the rats have a good chance against the nightmares -they surely only have physical attacks- and Shins wants to reset the trap, I would like to send the rats a little further away from the trap up the tunnel (= the direction they came from and where we plan to head to) -so they don't trigger it- and us fleeing past the rats, even further up the tunnel and let the rats engage the following nightmares -which will probably not trigger that trap, because they are flying?- so the trap will still be there if the centipede chooses our tunnel. But that would depend on Shins beeing able to set the trap after everyone (including the rats) passed it and fleeing past the rats to the group on the same action, otherwise the nightmares will surely target him. And I don't know if a character can do this in one action or if it requires separate actions. EDIT: Moving, acting and moving again is allowed, according to Docs answer to my questions via chat.
Any other ideas? Something I'm missing? My description to confusing to follow?)
I'm not too fond of the idea of resetting the trap after everyone has passed by it. I'd much prefer to simply reset it, somehow mark the trigger mechanism (assuming it's then easily avoided by the entire party – I've asked Doc0075 about this) and move ahead while continuing my search for traps in the tunnel.

By the way, amazing work, Tanea, and hearty thanks to you and BenKii for standing by me – and to Gilius for not letting the rocky horror run rampant! :)

No problem Shins! I'll continue to do my best to keep you safe moving forward.

I agree with however you wish to use the trap as long as it keeps all the baddies from following us down this tunnel.

(About the trap, I found this post from the Southern tunnel where Doc allowed 29 - Og'rialt - Dwarf Brigand to set a trap and tell his companions where it was to not set it off.)

Thank you, I really appreciate that! :)

Okay, so our almighty Dungeon Master has kindly answered my question.

If I reset the trap, I can let people in the group know where it is, and our Lord and Saviour will automatically assume they have avoided the trap (I hope that goes for the unholy mountain as well).

In that case I'll reset it now and then continue my search for traps further down the tunnel – unless I'm attacked, that is, in which case I'll defend myself as best I can.

(Looks like everyone has taken their turn so unless someone wants to update their actions, this should be the final update for the current turn.)

Current Actions Summary:

40 - Pouyou-pouyou - Gilius - Dwarven Druid
I order my stone elemental to go back, charge and smash the nightmares to help Peloquin to reach us.
Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the others to go forward to follow them.

45 - phaolo - Loradan - Elven Mage
"Good job Tanea, that was impressive!" Loradan said triumphantly to the halfling shaman.
"Now people, let's move ahead in case these animals will decide to snap out of their trance."
"And someone kindly check our path for traps, please."

13 - paladin181 - Roosevelt - Human Paladin
++ROOSEVELT WILL ATTEMPT TO HELP PELOQUIN BY GETTING RID OF THAT NIGHTMARE, THEN RETREAT WEST FURTHER INTO THE TUNNEL, GUARDING THE PARTY'S BACK AGAINST THE NIGHTMARES++

74 - runnerex - Yeenwi - Drow Necromancer
Yeenwi orders the Nightmare under his control to attack the second Nightmare that is attacking Peloquin. then quietly starts moving down the tunnel in order to go past the group of confused rats, while at the same time taking care not to be too close to the others going the same way to avoid them having the -2 negative effect. While doing that, he says to Fish and Roy Jenks: "Stick close to me, guys, if you want to maximize our chances of survival."

57 - ConsulCaesar - Siegfried - Human Paladin
I will wait until the result of this spell (Yeenwi's Control Undead), then if any Nightmares are still attacking us, cast Turn Undead and attack with my silver sword. If there are not a danger anymore, then I will run with the others.

68 - Peloquin - Dwarven Thief
1. I recoil from both Nightmares, keeping an eye on the one determined to attack me. If there's a shadow nearby that I can conceal myself with, then I do exactly that.
2.I swap my Light Hammer for my Shortbow. Will my enchanted arrows work on these two Nightmares and paralyze them?
3.from the cover of the shadows, I shoot the first arrow at the Nightmare not under the Drow's influence. And if I miss, I shoot a second.

67 - Testor0 - Rufus - Human Cleric
Rufus places himself for avoiding any partner.
He launches his Silver Light-Hammer on Fire toward the end of the dark tunnel, budgeoning any creature that would be there. He looks accurately the way and retrieves the returning weapon.

25 - BenKii - BenKii - Human Warrior
I stand next to and follow Shins A'Hoy protecting him from any dangers he may face.

58 - FlockeSchnee - Tanea - Halfling Shaman
As for now:
I stay with Shins and BenKii, determined to use my staff and reflexes on anything and anyone that might attack us.
After Rufus threw his hammer, I send the rats a little ways back up the tunnel (the direction they came from) so they stay away from the trap and the centipede and their actions then may at least warn us, if something else is coming our way from up there.

38 - ZyloxDragon - Roy Jenks - Half-Orc Battemage
As far as these leftover nightmares... if one's on the ceiling decide to attack, I'll cast a Web at them. Otherwise, I'll if the dwarf is still having issues with the 2 nightmares, I'll throw a web at the one that looks the least hurt.

63 - Genocide2099 - Fish - Half Orc Berserker
Fine. I'll stick with the drow necromancer for now. I don't trust any drow or anyone who controls the dead. Any sign of a double-cross, I'll bite your head off and keep it is a reminder not to trust your kind.

4 - sasuke12 - Strigon - Drow Necromancer
Strigon realized that his close presence was hurting Siegfried the human paladin, so Strigon decides to follow Yeenwi - Drow Necromancer down the tunnel.
Unless, Siegfried says that he wants Strigon to stay behind him as a back up, the Drow Necromancer will follow closely others down the tunnel.

76 - Lemon_Curry - Shins A'Hoy - Halfling Thief
If I reset the trap, I can let people in the group know where it is, and our Lord and Saviour will automatically assume they have avoided the trap (I hope that goes for the unholy mountain as well).
In that case I'll reset it now and then continue my search for traps further down the tunnel – unless I'm attacked, that is, in which case I'll defend myself as best I can.

Rufus!?....Talk to me Rufus!.....RUFUS!!! There must be something we can do for him. Does anyone have some kind of resurrection spell?
"Must be all you can eat buffet day? Tunnel even makes shish-ka-bobs." - Roy.

(I think you're holding the only one who did)
Captain's Log Stardate 73215.4

We lost a valuable companion today. Rufus, he was our only cleric and possibly our only way of reviving one another. Now death will be permanent for all of us. It appears this "dungeon master" is keen on killing us with his various death traps and minions of monsters. I will have to muster all of my courage and starfleet training to get out of this hell. When I finally meet the person or entity responsible for this "game", he will have a lot to answer for what he has done.

I stay in formation protecting Shins A'Hoy. When we finally get to where Rufus died and Shins has determined the trap is disabled and there are no further traps, I pick Rufus's body up and carry him. Perhaps there may be something further up the tunnel that can still revive him.

BenKii: I pick Rufus's body up and carry him. Perhaps there may be something further up the tunnel that can still revive him.
If you carry his dead body around, how will you attack your enemies and defend yourself ?

Is it a good idea to have Shins leading the group in the dark tunnel thanks to his ability to detect traps ?

sasuke12: If you carry his dead body around, how will you attack your enemies and defend yourself ?
I'm not leaving a man behind. If need be, I'll put him down to fight any battles that come from this tunnel.

We absolutely need a rogue leading for trap detection. Otherwise, we'll die just like poor Rufus.
So then Shins is at the front of our formation.
And BenKii is behind him.
What about others ?
avatar
Pouyou-pouyou: 40 - Gilius, dwarven druid.

I watch in horror the poor little halfling getting torn apart by the shadows and falling on the ground. That was a really unfortunate way to end. Maybe losing an ally so early in our adventure will weaken us too much ? Maybe we could have used her extra firepower against these horrors ? Maybe she could have been helpful event though she was so pompous ? Maybe it doesn't have to end like this ?

I cast a spell.
(Rufus is in serious need of help and I believe his condition might be "fixable" with resurrect.)

(Gilius has resurrect. He was the one trying to resurrect Origi, after all.)

Doc0075: ... they look at her lovingly and do as told.

Reading the above while listening to CHVRCHES - 'Death Stranding' has left me deeply moved...

Wonderful descriptions, terrible fate - such is the way of the Dungeon Master.

Lay down, lay down...

Poor Rufus.

I'm only glad to be of service. Although I do wonder why the rats didn't trigger the trap... I guess they're too used to maneuvering safely in this dark and godforsaken place.

(I need some sleep before deciding what to do next. See you all later. I'm looking forward to reading your posts. :))
