Hey everyone, I think the topic subject says it all :) Just a little more info.
When BOI:Rebirth came out I instantly bought it because I loved the original one (despite its flaws, being made in Flash and all...). This game has it all, different game each time (random dungeons BUT with pre-designed room layouts), huge amount of weapons/items/powerups/abilities to unlock, great variation in enemies & bosses, and... it's so addictive! So, after I decided to uninstall it (because I was getting too addicted to it - and I also spent LOTS of hours in it) I needed another game that could grab my interest in the same manner.
So I bought Nuclear Throne, by reading the reviews I guessed that it was going to be a more weapon-focused Isaac. To tell you the truth, I was a bit disappointed, it felt too... hard & unfair (Isaac is hard & unfair sometimes, but I never felt like quitting). I don't mind simplistic visuals (OK, Isaac was nicely polished), but I no more have the patience to play a game which kills me every now and then without giving me motive to retry (something which Isaac does hellish-ly good; pun intended).
So, my good friends, can anyone recommend any similar DRM-Free games with such replay value? I got my eye on Enter the Gungeon, but I'm hesitant due to my experience with Nuclear Throne (based on reviews). Also, I've got a recommentation myself (the only nice alternative I have found so far): A Wizard's Lizard. It's very nice, challenging, not as expansive as Isaac, but it has its own cool mechanics & it's DRM-Free. (Whew, long post - sorry about that!)

Sorry about that :) hope it's more human-readable now
Enter the Gungeon is amazing, best of the genre imho. I loved TBOI, I didn't really like Nuclear throne.
It happened the same as you to me... I really wasn't convinced by Enter the Gungeon as it looked very similar to Nuclear Throne. But one day I decided to give it a try and I love it since then. A very pleasant surprise. You won't regret playing it. It's full of secrets, unlockables, guns, puns...

Btw, any impressions on Wizard of legend? It's on sale right now and it could be a nice addition to my library...

sugest looking in the itch.io for the demo of Wizard of Legend and try it
There's also Our Darker Purpose, but I have no clue whether it's any good. I think it's supposed to be a bit hard/unfair, too?
Frustrating, random, ugly waste of time with no story? Try Spelunky.
Open-source and freeware: WitchBlast
Simpler than others, but yet a good game.
Shares with the original TBOI the feature that items actually change the character's appearance.

Nice seeing someone sharing the same experience, to tell you the truth I was hoping for someone to reply like that! Well, sir, you just helped someone :) I am now more convinced to buy Enter the Gungeon next chance I get, thanks a lot!

Hey, this seems quite similar in gameplay. Anyone here played that one?

Breja, your comments are usually a little on the extreme side, but sometimes I kind of like the way you describe stuff :)

I liked Neon Chrome. Similarly to Rogue Legacy, every time you die you can spent gold that you have collected to improve your attributes and give you a better fighting chance for your next try.

Hey this looks interesting, and the sci-fi context is intriguing... noted down!
Also, another game I just remembered I own on Humble: Full Mojo Rampage. It's very Isaac-ish, it's focused on voodoo culture, using dolls, pins, tarot cards & other trinkets as power-ups. Similarly, when you die you keep money & unlockables in order to upgrade & retry.
Please people, keep posting similar games, It would be nice to compose a nice list for reference (also, I think we might need the master of list-maintaining, Barry_Woodward)

If you're interested in Neon Chrome, you might also like JYDGE by the same devs. It's a twin stick shooter, too, although contrary to Binding of Isaac and other games in this thread it's not a rogue-lite, but level based. Still great fun though, lots of unlocks and replay value.

You pretty much described every arcade and console game I grew up with. :P

I can't say that this one thrills me but there are games here, one of them on sale right now, that vaguely remind me of it, and some of those I love. So alas I shall refrain from judgement.
EtG is great, but with such a vast weapon selection, I really hate that you have very limited control over what you get to use. I wish it was less RNG-y so I wouldn't be stuck with weapons I dislike. Especially since a lot of them are very gimmicky and you're bound to get some that you hate.
