I just bougt Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY edition and have been downloading for over 10 hrs now. It is barely half done!!! This is totally ridiculous. Games of the same size take far less time on Steam to download. I thought I would try out GOG as Steam gets tedious at times, and my Oblivion game keeps messing up on there. I was hoping this would be a refreshing change....NOT happening.

I downloaded the witcher 3 soundtracks yesterday and speeds were quite good, don't you leave your pc to download overnight?

I was up at 5am buying the game, It is now 4:05 pm, and still just over half done
Ah, GOG has probably not paid your ISP the lubricating for a faster service.

Welcome to the GOG forums by the way!

I don't know what to say, we have slow internet here, so I wouldn't know how things would be with a faster connection
I doubt it's Gog's fault as I have always had good speeds and that's via browser.

drmike: Maybe mentioning your OS and your method of downloading would be helpful. Maybe one of us could help you then.

I have no problem with downloading. I'm using The GoG Downloader on Windows 10.

If you're using GoG Galaxy, slow speeds are usually a sign that Galaxy is having a problem getting past your firewall. if you mention what firewall you're using, one of us may be able to direct you to where you need to look to fix it.

drmike: With all due respect, this is what you do at 5:05am:

I use Windows 10 with Norton Security. My internet is via ethernet cable from AT&T Uverse. I have a Dell Inspiron 5559 with i7 processor and 8GB RAM;

Hopefully this is what you want/need to know

One more thing: HOW do you download the game? Using Galaxy? The GOG downloader? Your browser?

....

Things can break, like the router/modem/gateway or even a cable (eg bitten by a cat) and if not totally broken might just slow things down a lot as the pc requests broken packets over and over again. Wireshark could help you here but it is a complicated program even if free. I have used that to determine me having broken hardware and cables.

As for why I was up at 5am buying game....it was out of frustration because I just had to uninstall Oblivion for the 3rd time because surroundings went black....overlays were working fine, so was sound, but couldn't see a thing to play the game

I thought maybe I would try something different to keep me from breaking my computer....lol

I am disabled, so have a lot of time on my hands, and since I have been sick, I don't sleep normal hours, so I get buried in my games for something to do..

Since I am new to GOG, I am using GOG Galaxy for the download. Now I wish I had just used the downloader

Ok guys, this isn't the first time someone come on here with this kind of issue.

They often get full speed with "the other service", and is unlikely to be an oddity with their network. Nor is it a problem with GoG's servers.

I don't know why this should be, other than throttling from the ISP or a curious routing problem.

But it does need to be sorted, and GoG does need to look into why this could be.

OP, where in the US are you and who is your ISP. I am right in assuming you're getting full speed elsewhere.
what's wrong with being up at 5 am downloading? :P

I was up at 5am downloading. I was also watching "Saved By The Bell" on MTV2 while I was downloading and THAT IS something to be embarrassed about.

Galaxy is, shall we say, not quite fit for having its beta tag removed yet*. For example, the overlay messes with several games. You should look in the Elder Scrolls subforum for help with Oblivion.

*getting close, just my humble opinion.

I've used Galaxy for over a year and not had speed issue since it went live.
That said, downloading via the webpage might use different protocols that might work better.

I hope you can get the game down as Wither 3 is a great game, and GoG is a great service (if you don't have an issue connecting)

My Oblivion game is on Steam....driving me buggy. I love the game, but this issue has me stressed out.
