Who cares. The modern Doom games are all trash anyway, and nothing at all like the real Doom games, Doom I and Doom II.

Nonsense. They are a bit too fast for me these days, but they are high quality games packed with content and far surpass Doom 1 & 2 in every aspect I can think of story/lore, music, graphics, variety of gameplay, unlocks, bosses, secrets, weapons. It's not even close. The 2 modern Doom games are pretty bad ass first person shooters. Eternal especially is quite intense.

Doom 1 & 2 were amazing for the 90s. They are not amazing today. + You get them for free inside the modern game anyway.

I heard good things about the modern Doom games. Im not really a FPS player but it does sound interesting even to me with the execution kills encouraging aggression which seems to be what Doom is about.

I do think it is possible. If Doom and Eternal are DRM-free, promoting them on GOG for extra sales would make sense.

Needing Bethesda account to log in does kill the vibe though.

I'd rather prefer Doom 2016 tbh.

Doom Eternal had a fun story (if you bought the expansions), but I hated the gameplay. Walking from arena to arena (with some jumping passages between them) is just not my thing. I prefer levels with enemies that are walking around everywhere than all of them concentraded in one challenge spot.
And I don't like how weapon and ammunition management works. You have to use certain weapons to have the enemies spawn certain types of ammunitions or extras and you have to do so because otherwise you run out of ammo pretty fast. Really not my thing.

Modern though they may be, the fun factor simply isn't there. I played through Doom 2016 twice and was struggling to finish the 2nd time due to boredom. There is a slew of stuff that I dislike. Ammo/Health management, glory kills, difficulty scaling, checkpoint saving, "story/lore" where UAC is now comic book level villain and from what I've seen, Eternal went full fantasy mode.

I will keep returning to Doom 2 WADs till the day I die most likely. The amount of possible variety with custom levels is nearly limitless in the original engine.

In nu-Dooms, the gameplay is very rigid, prescriptive and repetitive. They have more fancy looking fluff, but that doesn't automatically mean more fun gameplay. So you are correct. It's not even close, but the other way around.

Funny how opinions work :P

EverNightX: Yeah, + I'm not sure anything Microsoft owns gets here.

marcew44: Fallout 4 got here the other day plus Skyrim AE some months ago, both of these games don't really need an account to play though but the annoyance is still there if i recall correctly.
I'm still hoping for Non-Remasters of Blizzard's Starcraft 1, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3 here from the Microsoft Buyout.

They are very different game types. I like Doom 2016, including it's fun factor.
Doom 1 and Doom 2 I finished of course like everyone did back in the days, but never was much impressed by them. Played a few player maps out of curiosity, but it became boring quite quickly. So after some time I stoped playing and never touched them again (with a few exceptions, to test MIDI in Dosbox for example).

Nostalgia is a nice thing, I still play Dark Forces on a regular base.

Very.

I tried liking Doom 2016, but just couldn't slip into the vibe. All the little things I dislike combine together into the game being mostly meh to me. I did finish it twice, but don't see myself playing again any time soon.

And yes, if I were to play Doom 1 and 2 repeatedly all the time, it too would become boring. But it's the custom WADs that keep the game going to this day. You can do pretty much whatever with the engine and the amount of gameplay variety you can encounter is pretty nuts. I don't even use any mods or conversions, just pure mega-WADs and it simply doesn't get old.

Any custom level in nu-Dooms is going to be mostly the same and play mostly the same.

I don't think removing the Denuvo DRM will mean the game is coming to GoG.
Not like the game having the DRM protected it anyways... because DRM always gets cracked.

LegoDnD: Still needing a Bethesda.net account, pass.

Nothing that they directly publish.
I believe i like the previous Doom more than Doom Eternal because the original BFG Division feels better than the remix to me.
