javihyuga: I suppose that if they think this is a meaningless marketshare, they won't mind we get a DRM-free installer at "pirate bay" and buy it when it gets bundled for 1$.
Piracy is NEVER a solution. NEVER, EVER.

I rather take pride in not being subjected to media sold on monopolist publishing platforms. Games are about cultural impact. Talos has no cultural impact on me. I will never watch Let's Plays and not look up fan art, will not understand any conversations or jokes made about it. It wastes its shot at greatness, at the legendary, because the're licking Valve's toenails.

(Speaks volumes about the difficulty of a "port" if the pirated versions work though.)

Vainamoinen: Been digging through that Steam thread a bit. This is a joke, seriously. The devolopers say that achievements and leaderboards would be central reasons for ignoring GOG. Two abject sorry ass instant gratification mechanisms that were only created to simulate multiplayer and community where none exists and to create more generally accepted DRM (that is no less DRM in any way) out of thin air.

And with that, I assess Talos to not be on GOG because of bad game design and because of DRM.

As to the "port costs" bullshit, the game was obviously developed FOR Steam. They are finding other publishing platforms insufficient strictly because of their not-steam-ness, which is grounds to shed tears for the entire industry. All they do with their games is to support a monopoly that already killed off the central advantages of the PC game industry - market diversity and compatibility.
Amen. I was sad to read in the thread title that I shouldn't expect to see Talos on GOG. But after reading the developer's flippant comments, now I am a little bit less sad about it.

I'm just glad I care more about the game than which store you can buy it on
Sad story... It seemed like a decent game. It's a shame devs have such simple-minded views on GOG.
I guess it will be just another one of those games I'll get for 20 cents in the future from some random bundle.

Sorry for necro thread. Asked Devolver Digital if there's a chance of The Talos Principle might be coming to gog.com anytime soon or in the future and their answer was: "No plans currently, thanks!"

"Also, if GoG supported Steam keys, they would be selling Talos now. But as the situation is now, even if they had the API comparable to Steam, it wouldn't be worth the development time, since their market share is much lower. Shrug."

"It would require maintaining two separate versions, and for just a small fraction of the market."
Yet at the same time, some people claim GoG.com can't be called an "underdog" compared to Steam... Apparently he fears so much that would give some kind of "sympathy points" to GoG, and we can't have that, can we?

It's not just about GOG, it's about The Talos Principle developers not caring about drm-free releases, which to me is paramount to game preservation. That's why steamworks is so harmful to the game industry. Or at least to my view of it. And even more so if the game is actually good and worth preserving.

And about Devolver Digital; it's not only that we are missing The Thalos Principle, which was a developer decision. We didn't get their last releases -Broforce, Noct, Downfall- either.
