dr.schliemann: Monitors' specifications? What resolution do you use?

I suspect that your GPU is too fast for your monitor.

ZFR: 1920x1080. Its an iiyama, forgot the model.

Tried on a different one too from a friend. Forgot the model.
Well, it shouldn't be the monitor, then.

ZFR: • Playing around with all the different BIOS settings I could find. All the obvious and less obvious ones.
Have you tried disabling "Intel Turbo Boost"? My new suspect is the motherboard: specifically how it manages CPU/GPU interactions. I'm not saying that there is an hardware issue, but maybe a BIOS-related one.

Yes. That was caysing overheat from the start. Disabled few days after assembly when i bought it.
Well, got a new PSU and as I initially suspected, though I hoped it would be otherwise, the prolem is still there.

Time to take the bull by the horns, and replace the motherboard... I could cry.
Any idea on what motherboard to get? I'm using Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT but I can't find this model any more.
In fact, it's strange but I can't find any good model on Amazon for a 1150 socket.

As I suggested earlier, it could be failing capacitors. Have you examined your motherboard to see if any caps are damaged/leaky/bulging? If one fails, it can put more strain on others in series and they'll start popping off one by one, causing gradual degradation. This is fairly common.

If that is the problem and you're handy with a soldering iron, you could replace them yourself.

Why don't you try first and see if it's from Windows, like I said in my previous post? Normally, it's not recommended to install a new motherboard without a clean OS install. So you'll probably end up reinstalling Windows anyway, if you're not buying the same MB model you already have now.

I'm not handy with asoldering iron. Don't even have the tools. Easier to just buy a new one.

I might as well to be honest. Problem though, I don't have my Windows CD with me and it seems Microsoft no longer allows you to download them unless you have a retail key (I have OEM).

Is that Win 7 or 10?

Win 7 Professional.
I found this on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00K8HNGXS/ref=dp_olp_0?ie=UTF8&condition=all&qid=1515376101&sr=8-3

It's like the one I have, but microATX instead of ATX. Should waork though. And it's not fullfilled by Amazon, but directly by a reseller. And more expensive than what I paid for mine 3 years ago.

Still it seems the best option.
Sadly a clean install of Windows didn't fix the issue. Looks like a new motherboard is in order.

Any advice on which one to get? The one I had is no longer available. See post above.
Insane price for a mb imho. I hope you tested your PSU already, otherwise do so.
Well, that sucks! What CPU do you have? For that MB's price, you could get a Ryzen 5 1600/X + decent B350 mobo. But you'll have to get DDR4 RAM too, because you currently have DDR3, right? How much RAM do you have?

I just went for the motherboard. Price is a bit steep, but there is no point upgrading cpu and mobo and leaving everything else. I mean, my current configuration can run games on high settings on a 1920x1080 monitor, and that's all I want now. And in 3-4 years I'll get a new PC anyway.

Fortunately, Amazon allowed me to return the graphics card and PSU that I bought. I'm OK with paying 300$; I mean I was willing to pay 300$ to get a new graphics card so ultimately I'm paying that amount to get the problem fixed; whether by getting a new mobo or a new graphics card.
Received the motherboard today, but it was clearly NOT new. Looks like refurbished. If I wanted refurbished, I'd have gone for a cheaper one that was marked refurbished.

Contacted Amazon seller, but I'm pissed. Now I have to return it, then wait till I get a new one...
Seller agreed to refund for motherboard. Found a refurbished one at eBay. Refurbished, but at least cheaper and seller mentions that in his description. But it means more waiting.

This motherboard better solve the problem...
