Umm.. are you sure there aren't restrictions anymore? (ex: max N downloads)
I couldn't find anything about it in the TOS..

Anyway, other problems are:
- web interface is horrible and limited for finding music.
- free cloud storage until.. 250 tracks!? WTF
- access to music may be blocked depending on country or legal issues.
- maybe you cannot download an entire album in a single step without the client.
- full albums prices are better that single track prices, so I have to take unwanted crap.

You wanted GOG style, which I assumed meant DRM free without hassles. That's what Amazon is for me. A lot of what you're asking has nothing to do with that, and I don't work there or want to read through their ToS, so I don't know what to tell you. It's all DRM free, I've never heard of limits on anything, once you download it it's yours forever, which is all I care about because I back it up.

If you don't like the site don't use it. *shrug*

Also, GOG is not only DRM-free. It also has worldwide price and access, no bad restrictions, a nice site which will be improved further, a really optional client in the future, a nice staff and community, etc.. I'm looking for something like that.

And I guess since I am on GOG for simple DRM free downloads that's what I think of when people say they want something GOG-like. Region restrictions do suck, I don't know how Amazon handles that. When I lived in Europe I remember having problems buying from them actually, so there ya go.

Anyway, I've tested some prices with an old (14 years) famous italian best-of album (29 tracks):
- itunes it - 15€
- 7digital it - 15€
- amazon it - mp3 - 12€
- amazon it - cd+mp3 (autorip) - 7€ --> big WTF, why does this cost less!? (no promo)
- amazon it - all single mp3 tracks - 38€ --> OMG, for what reason a full album should cost less than 1\3 of its single tracks?!

Then I tried looking for Iron Maiden's "Best of the Beast " (18 years, 16 tracks):
- itunes - ??
- 7digital - ??
- amazon it - mp3 - ??
- amazon it - cd only - 17€
- amazon com - cd only - $86 --> WUT??

Also, is music streaming going to increase or decrease all the prices?
I read that it already caused a reduction of digital music purchases.

Wow, now in Italy we even have another tax on devices that could be potentially used (all) for reproducing illegal content...

Sounds stupid. They should add licenses to buy hammers as well since you could potentially use them as a weapon... then you'd need concealed weapon permits to carry tools around or have them in your trunk...

Nope.I like bandcamp but it really caters more for indie type of music (heaps of indie game soundtracks sold there). definitely has limited downloads, although streaming via app seems unlimited after purchase. Bandit.fm used to be ok.Not sure what happened after their makeover ( yeah I agree with earlier poster.its fugly), but its less user friendly now, still has limited downloads. last few albums I've bought on CD.

I recall watching a video or reading somewhere talking about piracy and lost sales (I think it was TotalBiscuit about the 7000 keys in steam that was revoked recently, but the video wasn't really about piracy...), and it eventually came down to preventing piracy didn't add to lost sales at all. If someone was going to steal a game they probably had no intention of buying the game anyways, so a game that went uncracked (or any other number of things) just was never bought or used and was left alone ultimately making it less widespread and less played.


But let's be perfectly honest, 97% of the wealth goes to 3% of the people. This means there are a LOT of poor people who can't actually aford the games or music or whatever, which means: Either go without, or you probably end up getting it another (perhaps less legal) way. If there was money enough to go around and the economy was good, this probably wouldn't be a problem except to avoid annoying DRM that's incorporated into the system (or the convenience to download vs going to the store).

I do not see any limits when I'm logged into fan account.
Without logging in, fresh download link can be sent to PayPal e-mail address used when buying.
However, download is not available if the artist/publisher removes his account (happened at least once).

Well.. the new "movies" section here on GOG has been an unexpected surprise! :O
