Back in the saddle.

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, the tactical gunslinging classic, has recently received an update that brings new content plus several convenient improvements. Here's the rundown:

- Help Cooper, Doc, and Kate save a town from outlaw scumbags in a new mission designed to be the game's demo.
- The game's core technology has been updated to work well on systems running Win 7/8/10.
- Mac and Linux support added!
- Additional language options added: English, French, German, Spanish (both for the demo and main game), Italian, Russian (main game only)

Both Desperados games are now 80% off until July 16th, 5pm UTC. If you haven't tried them yet, go ahead and give them a shot. Or two.

mrjobi: This is the best news I will get today (and it's just after 9AM). My favourite game of all time will run without the VM.

Thanks a lot!

(now do the same with Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood)
Robin hood isn't published by Nordic :(

Themken: This is very nice but not buying since in all the years I have had the disc, I never got very far into the game. I guess I do not have the patience for this type of games.

Works better on modern Windows and support for Linux (and 32bit OSX too) are nice.
desperados 1 worked fine on my Xp 32 bit and win7 64 bits , talking bout the retail game
so why update things ?

Anyway i hope the default setups are not 'changed' casue the original game runs a charm on my 17inch CRT monitor

Going to replay the game now

DubConqueror: I got my money back now, Steam is quick in handling refunds!
avatar
keeveek: The process is mostly automatic, only if you request too many refunds, you may be flagged for more thorough review.
Its not entirely automatic refund: i got a message saying they looked into it, (that was the 1st refund i asked 1 first refund ( already had 200+ games then so that would be > 1%) i got it next day, about 24 hours added to steamwallet, sometimes 2 days... so it depends.

Anyway it is most certainly not instant refunded to the wallet, it takes time.

xalegra: That is great news! I have bought this game few years ago. I have tried various workarounds for Windows 10 and wide screen support, but none has enabled me to play properly every mission. Game was crashing to many times and I gave upon it. Now I can give it a second try.
glad it works for you now, thats why i keep my current old pc as it is, and will have to get a new one to build cause win 10 needs a new machine the old pc will stay as it is cause i want good games to run not the gamesthey create nowadays, there is a lot of games i would call 'meh'...

I stick to old decent good classic games , no ancient stuff with 2 to 8 colors thats too much, need at least VGA and or quality like KQ5 had, i dont like the games that look like c64 games thats the reverse on/reverse off game , which most of us startes with , including myself but i dont want to go back to those games :D

Anyway too old like i mentioned above and too new like fps and all that rotating stuff is no play for me thats why i need real gems like classic fallouts i own and many more.

dudalb: If I already have this installed, will I have to uninstall it an reinstall it,or can I update it through Galaxy?
avatar
badon: It should be able to update automatically through Galaxy. This is one of the problems Galaxy was designed to solve.
And loose the old setups ? i stick to my old versions, optional setups are okay but having to switch to new only which will fail on my old monitor , no thanks, i paid for old and want to keep the old setups.

Just checked my offlineinstallers:

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive 1.0.1-THQN 1.6 GB

i assume this is the new version the 'improved' code for newer hardware ?
or does it contain the originals aswell in one easy to download large file?

I hope the originals i bought the game for are still available......

downloading the huge setup now ......

done.... game installed

old setup was 575 mb new one is 1.64 gb

wow .... 50% CPU nice improvement and this is only the startup ( menu) screen with the new menu option added
cursor is extremely lagging .....

If you DL and save the old backup installers, you won't lose anything.
This update sucks!

I know thanks for the reminder , problem is what if in case i have a new setup one day ? new PC and my setups on backup disc /external usb drive are gone or damaged, backupdrives dont have eternal life.... there will be no download available ?
I fear in time all backups be gone ... yes only autodownloads with only Galaxy ( client only) support cause it makes life soo much easier, problem is 99% of all digishops already do that so i hope GOG will stay 'old fashioned' which is a dream cause at the current rate games arrive its a matter of months before everything is Steam like.... ( sad face)
I see Linux support, I swipe the card.

Not sure what to tell you about that. I DL all my installers as soon as I buy the game. I have a couple storage drives with the installers backed up, so redundancy to cover accidental loss of data. It's worked for me for years so far.

Well, now you're going into the speculative "at some point Galaxy will be mandatory" territory. I'm not going to argue that here (there are other entire threads for that), but suffice to say that GOG has repeatedly stated Galaxy won't be mandatory. If you don't believe that, then DL your backup installers as soon as you buy a game (like I do). This has a twofold benefit:

1) you'll always have access to the off-line installer
2) you also have the original release installer so if you don't like updates or what certain patch version do, you can opt to not use the updated game installers/patches

This does mean you'll end up with a number of different versions of the game, which can make storing/sorting a bit of a pain, but it gives you complete control of your game files.

And if it ever comes to the point that there are no off-line installers available and you can only get your games through Galaxy: well, then leave GOG and shop elsewhere, as many of us will do.

DubConqueror: Thanks, I requested a refund. I thought you need to ask a refund within 2 hours of buying, but if the rule is having played it for less than 2 hours, I should be fined, I haven't even installed it yet.
avatar
HunchBluntley: If I remember correctly, it's "within 14 days from purchase, or less than 2 hours played".
The "less than 2 hours played" always applies. Otherwise you could try to finish each game in 13 days and then demand a refund.
avatar
gamesfreak64: old setup was 575 mb new one is 1.64 gb
The reason for this is probably the added languages.

That's what I meant. Exceeding either limit means you're not guaranteed a refund.

But shouldn't it be "and" in that case?

Maybe. Probably. I dunno. :)

cant leave GOG ..... cant go elsewhere ............ because i am already elsewhere :D
@steam and @GG(gamersgate) joined there because i read about it in GOG forums, never heard of steam or GG if it wasnt for the GOG forums i never know steam and GG existed... i read about GOG in a pc gameplay magazine.

pc = not the problem a monitor is... my old crt doesnt support higher resolutions although my GPU does

unless... my hardware fails , backups need hardware like disks, cd/dvd rom to be stored/burned on
playing small games now from a USB drive local drives are getting crowded so i move all the gigabytes of casualgames.

your welcome.

I installed the 2.0.0.6 desperados setup i had backuped on USB drive
game works a charm but the fonts were all messed up , blurry, i guess because of the GTX 750 ti i have now, jagged alliance games have exact same problem, seems some settings in GPU settings panel need to be turned of/on or changed.. i always change settings per game, not global cause that might cause some trouble.
