I think you're blowing this out of porportion.....they say they will only add it to MP, and well after the game launches, and also that they will give good value for the price. To me, microtransactions are fine if mainly cosmetic/unneeded to play or enjoy the game and a good value.

StingingVelvet: A lot of people lump all "microtransactions" together though, and the word has become poison. Same thing happened with "DLC" for a while, as people saw everything as horse armor even though we got amazing DLCs like Dishonored's Knife of Dunwall.
This is what I mean....people hear that "evil" word and assume things(usually mostly bad).

So you say but EA, Activision, Bethesda etc didn't start out fully with microtransactions, it happened gradually and got worse over the years. I''m just not looking at this game but to the future.

Yes. yes developers and publishers say many things like ethical, good value but words mean nothing when there's money on the table and you have been willing to slowly change your principles over the years.

Let's be honest here i'm not expecting a terrible monetization system with Cyberpunk 2077 but they have been moving towards modern trends more and more.

Ok, but I think people should judge them and base our actions on their current actions and not potential future actions that might or might not occur.

All businesses want to make money...that's not always a bad thing....also(iirc) sometimes when you have shareholders you are legally required to try and make more money to benefit them.

I agree with you and it's just an observation...for now ! but if they step out of line one fucking inch with these things i'll be there and telling them i said so.

CDP has been good for most part so far yes so i will leave it here for now.

this. I remember cdpr saying that cyberpunk will be singleplayer-exclusive title (and then there were lots of related community-made memes).

But anyway - if this will be really a thing, Im not interested in this game anymore. I mean - yeah, not all microtransactions are necessary bad, but this trend itself is disgusting. We ate horse armor dlc, but it doesnt mean we should go any further (yet modern gamindustry does and seems like majority of gamers dont care). Today we will get in-app purchases, tomorrow - lootboxes (which already happens in AAA games, actually)... What will be next guest from the world of free-to-play games? Ads?

Time will tell, however I don’t use gwent, nor their client, and due to those two stopped recommending people go to gog for games, plus reduced what I brought on the store because of them. Afraid I do not support any of these modern cons such as loot boxes, micro transactions, and such like. If they do it, they won’t get any money from me, simple as that. Don’t expect it will make any difference, but there it is, clear lines in the sand.

Im strictly against microtransaction in their classic form (buying boosts, decreasing grind, etc.), anyway I"m not against reasonable DLCs.

Monitization could also be i.e. Map-Packs. Which could be even a good thing if they seperate their development costs into single-player with their current budget and maintaining and developing the multiplayer aspect of CP77 via modules you don"t need for singleplayer.

We don"t know what CDP has planned, but they are on the more trustworthy side of the industry.

Loot boxes are a con, it is a form of gambling. The promise of riches entices you in, but no one really ever wins only the house. Micro transactions, well, maybe not a con, but certainly a way of making money from nothing, and leads to half finished games, endless “optional” content, and essentially milking their consumer base. I see no positives to it. But stupid people are easily prised from their money, that is the world. I won’t be supporting it however.

I'm really hoping for a co-op multiplayer experience in a same vein as Dying Light.

There is a distinct lack of story driven co-op games.

I don't want some half arsed competitive multiplayer add on.

I agree loot boxes are a con, I was talking about some microtransactions not being a con. Also imo some can help fund more games and stuff I do want so I am sort of ok with some of them(it depends on type/price/other factors).

What changed between now and the 1990s, besides people lowering their standards and being worse consumers?

DRM is absolutely NOT required for multiplayer modes to work.

And, might I add, this is supposed to be a DRM-free storefront!

The standard of GOG's "sister site," FCKDRM.com, is "100% DRM-free" NOT "no singleplayer DRM, but DRM is required for multiplayer to work." All of the excuses and post hoc rationalizations that people try to conjure up, fly in the face of what their own site tells you is the definition! Of course it doesn't help matters that the store muddles the message by including things like GWENT and client requirements for newer games' multiplayer.

As for anyone arguing that "the multiplayer doesn't affect the singleplayer," when is that ever true? Multiplayer modes, like singleplayer modes, require resources (including time) to develop. Resources going to multiplayer, or microtransactions, or what have you, are resources not going to singleplayer. When the game is meant to be an epic singleplayer experience, it's no wonder users have cause for concern.

There was a game that used to be on this store called Wolcen that appeared to be in development hell. I am paraphrasing a little here, but it eventually got removed when it was clear the developers did not want to make an epic singleplayer RPG as had been previously assumed. So does Cyberpunk still belong on a DRM-free store? And why wasn't this "good news" shared prior to people pre-ordering the game?

Both of the examples sanscript gave were free-to-play. In such games, it makes sense to have microtrasaction payments, because that is how they earn.
In a full-priced game, they're a lot less justifiable.
