EndreWhiteMane: I never thought about it before, hearing Shakespeare in anything other than Old English would sound very strange to me.
You mean Middle English? ;) Actually, Shakespeare might even be Early Modern English, I'm not sure. It is rather easy to understand for modern speakers. Yes, it's rather odd and I don't really like it. Some translations are pretty good, but it's never quite the same. Unfortunately, because I'm in the Netherlands, Shakespeare is usually performed in Dutch here. It's yet another reason why I'm excited to go to England to see some of these plays!
ddickinson: I love Shakespeare plays. I have been to the Globe theatre a few times, the last time I went I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream. It's quite interesting seeing it on a replica of the stage it would have been performed on the first time. It makes you realise how big play houses are these days, compared to the Globe theatre. London has some great shows on, not just plays but also ballets, musicals, operas and lots of other things as well. Hopefully you will enjoy yourself and see some lovely plays.
That's so awesome! I've learned about the Globe in my courses on theater, but I've never actually been there, so I'm really excited to go and experience it for myself. I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun. My best friend is coming along on the trip as well, and our schedule so far is looking great, so I'm sure it will be amazing.
