HypersomniacLive: If she's anything like my mother was, then I'm sure that she was fed up and stressed lying in a hospital bed for so long, and her recovery would have taken longer if she had stayed there. Being home will do wonders for her spirit, which in turn will do half the job for her recovery.
As for the walking sticks - if she's half as suborn as you, she'll toss them sooner than anyone expects.
This of course means that you have to stand guard she doesn't overestimate her strength, but I'm sure I don't need to tell you this.
My mother definitely hates been in hospital. Sadly she is in and out of hospital all the time, with hardly any progress ever made as to what the root of the problem is. She usually ends up nearly dying then manages to recover, so she gets so stressed and worked up while she is in the hospital. Hopefully now she is home she will start to relax and she can just concentrate on recovering.
She has already tried to walk without the sticks, and she is definitely as hardy and stubborn as I am, perhaps even more so. She does not like to admit she is ill, which has been hard for her for the last few years, as ever since she first got seriously ill, around the time my grandmother did, she has never quite been herself. It's hard on her to go from an active farm mum to someone who is often too tired to do all the things she used to love doing. But she is a strong willed woman, and she won't let her being ill stop her from doing things, even if it means I have to watch her like a hawk, just as I had to do when my father got out of hospital. My brothers are covering some of my work so that for this weak at least I can stay with her and make sure she is behaving herself and resting, not trying to do work.
How has the week been treating you so far?
