ddickinson: I remember watching the Dark Phoenix saga on tv on the old early 1990's X-Men cartoon series. I'm visiting people I would rather not, but at least I get a few days off work. How about you? Anything fun planned for the weekend?
Thank you. Got my taste from friends and some cousins.

j0ekerr: Frank Miller on his good days before he went insane. One of the classic x-men stories by then, dream team, Claremont & Byrne and Mr. Miura's magnum opus which is one of the manliest mangas ever made.

You sir have good taste.

Hey gunsynd. Glad you're feeling a bit better. Time is indeed the only thing that really helps, but good company can go quite a way too ;)
Good morning/afternoon/evening, everyone. =)

Hopefully you're all having a good day, or a decent one at the very least.

Which DOW games are you planning on playing? Just the first one or the expansions as well?

I can understand that, sometimes you just need to be alone and have a bit of space. Glad you're back though :)

Can't complain here overall.

Crunching some numbers, downloader's going since my impulse buying overrode my patience in waiting for the possible Valentine's whatever that's coming (but to hell with it, another 7 off my list), and now I'm getting murdered by turrets in Meat Boy.

EndreWhiteMane: I own about 10 of them and may pick up another TBS title just 'because'. :-)
You can never have too many TBS games. :-)

avatar
EndreWhiteMane: I find the graphics very nice, especially when played in a window. I think the 96-98 era games had some of the best graphics, it's the 1999-2003 'early 3D' that I hate with a passion. ;)
avatar
ddickinson: I agree, I love the old era graphics. It's surprising how many still look good even today. The 3D on the other hand just looks terrible (Simon the Sorcerer 3D), but I guess 3D gaming had to start somewhere.
Yeah, the early 3D graphics didn't age well with those games. I didn't play many games back then that used them, but i remember the 3D-ish/2.5D-ish? graphics from Civilization: Test of Time looked quite horrid.

moonshineshadow: DD what kind of brainwashing did you do to l0rdtr3k so that he only sees you now? We others are not even getting a greeting anymore ;P

You wasn't kidding.

Because you give them 403 errors instead? :P

Probably the first and Winter Assault(it has the best campaing of the series).

But I guess it was all necessary. If they didn't keep using it and perfecting it, then we would have had no 3D games. Sometimes the old 2D game look better than the newer 3D games. There's just something about the look of an isometric strategy game with pre-rendered scenery that can look a lot better than a 3D version, which often has low quality textures.

Winter Assault was a fun game. The later levels were not so good, still fun, but not as much fun as the earlier levels. I think the first game had the better voice acting, overall.
The key to playing games that are make you cry levels of hard?

Knowing when to take a break.

Frustration doesn't improve your ability, it does the opposite. And the more you scream, the angrier you get, the worse you play.

Yup. It's one of the reasons Civ II still is one of my favourite strategy games.

(Although i do love the old counsil videos from that game. :D)
