I'm not sure with Chrono Trigger, but I know I used to complete FF V in about 24 hours. But Xenoblade Chronicles I think I put in about 110 hours, ditto for Bravely Default on 3DS. I think the game that I know I put the most hours into (as in actually had a count) was Samurai Warrior Chronicles on 3DS. I think that was about 130 - 140...
I'm sure I'll have spent more time on RTS, or on Counterstrike when I used to play that though.
See the campaign never really bothers me too much in an RTS. I'd rather just play random skirmishes. DoW had rock hard AI on the higher difficulties. I was so pleased when I was finally able to beat the higher difficulties.

I agree. I love the first games (I have never played DOW 2), not just because I enjoy the 40K universe, but it is a great RTS game. It is nicely balanced, with strengths and weaknesses for each race (until they patched it to destroy most faction while making the stronger ones even bloody stronger), the graphics are still good, and as you said, the AI is a real challenge. Plus you can mod it, which is always nice when a developer lets the fans make their own content and changes.

I have never played DOW 2 due to my no DRM policy. I know what you mean about getting stuck with the Blood Ravens all the time, I was never too keen on them. There are lots of interesting chapters who could be given some attention. But I guess as the Blood Ravens were created just for the game, then it makes sense to keep using them. It gives the developers more freedom and they don't have to worry too much about getting the lore wrong, so it's a good approach.

White Scars and Raven Guard? Good choices. I'm more a Black Templars and Imperial Fists kinda girl. After the Battle Sisters, of course. :-)

DOW 2 isn't bad, after nearly 300 hours between Dark Crusade and Soulstorm I'm definitely appreciating the tactical action, and Chaos Rising was interesting enough that I haven't labeled that one as dead yet either.
Will probably give those two a replay before I get through Retribution.

I'd say to avoid Soulstorm no matter what, since they don't exactly represent the Battle Sisters well.

There are two perks to playing as them -

One. They start with the most powerful ability in the game, the ability to pay points for buildings before a fight starts. It's pretty much essential to getting through the campaign.

Two. As the Sisters, you don't have to play through their obnoxious garbage boss battle to get the ability you need to beat the game.

Black Templars are awesome but I'm not to fond of the Imperial Fists and I really don't like the Ultramarines,I consider them the Mary Sue chapter of the Imperium although I hear good things about the books.

DOW 2 did look interesting, but the DRM made sure I didn't play them. As for Soulstorm, as much as I like the Battle Sisters, I have heard enough bad things about the game (even before your review) to make me not want to get it. Dark Crusade was too dull for me, so I figured Soulstorm would be just as dull, with little storyline, like Dark Crusade.

While I agree with you about the Ultramarines, I must disagree about the Imperial Fists (if not for them, there would be no Black Templars). In fact, just with you sating you are not fond of them makes me want to get the Ordo Hereticus to come pay you a visit. The God-Emperor does not abide traitors and heretics. :-)

Soulstorm is far worse in the dullness department.

For my Ork run, it was the last completed because I had to do three dozen defense fights.
Every time you do a defense fight, every point you've previously captured is reset. Every building, every installation is reset.
You can put points into garrison structures and units, but you still have to go through the song and dance of acquiring all the initial points again.
And you can't skip these fights because autoresolve will always take a strength 10 to 12 territory and drop it down to a 2 or 3, even if you and all your honor guard are on that territory.
Hell, that's even worse because the AI will automatically kill most of your honor guard as well, even in victory.

Combined with that, they introduced the idea of Take and Hold maps.
You have to hold the majority of all critical locations for seven full minutes in order to win, or systemtically go through every single point and wipe out every single enemy building and defense in order to get the annihilation win.

That sounds like such a stupid/horrible/evil/twisted/mind-numbing idea. I can see why your review mentioned it being just a copy and paste game. I'm glad I never tried it. Dark Crusade spoilt DOW a little for me (although I still had fun playing it, I like a good plot in my games), but I think if I played Soulstorm it would destroy all the enjoyment I get from the DOW games. Why the hell would the developers do that? It's one of those things that you just can't comprehend, but then making stupid design choices seems to be the latest trend with developers.

I seem to recall you buying a Chaos poster? It seems you are already a follower of the Warp spawn traitors. Besides, if you brother is under the influence of Nurgle, then the Inquisition may want to destroy you to make sure the taint of the Plague Lord does not remain in the God-Emperors Imperium. Also, if he is a fallen Tech Priest, then the Adeptus Mechanicus will want to deal with him personally. :-)

The Battle Sisters have Holy Orders instead of Chapters. I don't really have a favourite, but the Orders Majoris of the Orders Militant is probably my favourite group of Orders, as these are the Battle Sisters who pursue the ways of war to spread the God-Emperor's light.

It's a copy/paste game, all right. And they were too sloppy and stupid to conceal it.

They took what they could from Dark Crusade, halfassed through the rest, and failed to even halfass what they'd already cut whole cloth.
The description for the Chaos leader actually having the name of the Chaos leader from Dark Crusade on it was a bit of a dead giveaway.

As for why they did it? Money and attention.
They undoubtedly wanted someone out to keep people's attention on DOW, but away from asking about DOW 2, and they went about it with a mix of greed and laziness, charging full price for a game that's mostly Dark Crusade, only mixed with toxic sludge.
