EndreWhiteMane: Any thoughts on Read Only Memories?
I can't tell if it looks real fun, or real dumb.
The graphics are intentionally awful and I can't really tell what the gameplay is, let alone if it sounds interesting. :-)

Stilton: Its one of those titles that just puts me off, pretty much for the same reasons you state. So far the votes are a bit limp, and I don't think they're going to change much. Personally I'm happy to let it pass like a spell of gastric wind (too much information, sorry) :-) I'd really like GOG to put demos out, it would've saved me the few wrong turns I've made in my collection.
There is a demo at http://midboss.com/rom/ but I've had demos barely resemble the actual game quite a few times.

Stilton: Could you clarify your a la carte comment?

Have you experimented with Linux?
I have experimented a bit with Linux yup! With Mint - I like it but I do worry as it spins up my fans on my GPU when doing mundane tasks (think browsing). This worried me a bit (head frightens me when it comes to computers!) - I'll probably put more time into it when I either 1) update my GPU or 2) whenever new drivers come out.

By al a carte I mean I worry it'll shift to subscription and / or "app" pricing for an increasing number of functions. I worry that certain aspects of the OS will be moved over to monthly or yearly subscriptions, or small functions will increasingly require an app like purchase. The notion of it being a "service" is what triggered this and I'm fully willing to dive in should my worst fears not pan out.
Son of a bitch. My frigging hand hurts now. Have been playing 10,000,000 for hours. Fairly sure that game is part time warp. And there's a sequel. And that sequel is out right now. And it's cheap. Oh well, being able to move my right hand was overrated anyway.

Doesn't do much for me. That art style can be a bit of a turn off for me (though this one is far from egregious and looks almost like I could get on board) and the genre is just not my favorite. I didn't know there was a demo - thanks for pointing it out!

I initially read this as "playing for 10,000 hours" - I thought you had logged that much time in a game / series of games ;)

There is a demo for the game on the developers page.
Here (near the bottom)

EDIT: Nevermind. You ninja'ed me. :-)

-laughs- That's understandable, given the title. But unfortunately, the winner of most hours put in is still Soulstorm, at 176. Seriously need to replace that top spot with a game I actually enjoy.

I've tinkered with Linux a little, but I can't say I see it challenging Windows for my needs for a long time to come. Its pretty amazing how quickly its got to where it is, and it has some very good ideas, but as of now its more a day to day utilitarian choice than one to make me happy I'm using it.

Thanks for the clarification. If it went the way you fear it would be massively disappointing. It sounds all too possible with the way things are fracturing like fireworks. I suppose a modular approach is sensible in some respects, but having a price tag/cons attached for each choice could ruin the ease that most like and want from a single complete OS.

How many did you clock into One Finger Death Punch?

Thanks, Endre, I might give that a go.

I know what you mean about demos living in a world of their own sometimes. Its like the developers got bored and handed the game to another bunch of people to finish and they just tagged on what they thought would fit.

With the three full runs through the game, along with the partial game I had that got deleted, it's at 124.

Pretty good amount of time for a Silver Dollar game ha, I've probably put a hundred into MDickie's Wrestling Revolution to be fair.

It's the only Silver Dollar game that's ever gotten close to meriting that level of time. Most people won't get anywhere near that close time-wise though, if the stats that 13.1 percent of players have cleared the second difficulty level and 2.7 percent clearing the third level are accurate.

True, it was bundle fodder for a while, which probably figures into the numbers for both amount of owners and average playtime.

Between that, the difficulty, and how repetitive it ends up being, the numbers aren't surprising.
