steam sale is now.
What would be the key differences between GOG and steam?
avatar
ElTerprise: Yes. I hope so too but the expanding box is more important. It was a real pain to write a message beforehand...
That's true. Te fact they fixed the message box at least tells us they are still working on the chat feature, which is good to know.

l0rdtr3k: I love you!*hugs*You're one of my best friends.
And my day was lazy, very lazy.
That is very sweet of you to say. *return hug*

A lazy day? That does not sound too bad. Did you get to play some games?

I guess the big difference would be the whole DRM-Free feature. Games on GOG are yours to keep forever, tied to no online activation or client. Completely free of any DRM. The customer service is said to be better than Steam (I have not used Steam so I can't confirm this), and there is the fact that GOG carefully checks each game before it's released here. And unlike Steam GOG themselves offer support for games, offering technical help and assistance, and if applicable a 30 day money back guarantee.

Steam is made by a company with more industry clout and technical skill.

Steam is made by guys who have a very corporate background.

Steam works well most of the time but when it doesn't, man it doesn't. whether that was a game not working for you because some publisher just barfed it onto the platform or running into the steam support wall, there were steam horror stories peppering the beautiful landscape.

Steam supports DRM (optional, but it makes it so easy for developers that most do enable. and all major publishers enable) and gog takes a vicious anti-DRM stance first and foremost.

gog is a nicer community in some ways.

gog have time and again demonstrated goodwill on a scale that perhaps surpasses even Valve with Steam.

gog generally costs more.

gog generally more likely can resolve all problems you might have with the service via refund or help from support.

gog is not as social a platform as Steam but this is in flux.

Steam has newer releases.

I don't really think of gog and Steam as "A or B" so much as "this and this".

ddickinson: Good evening, everyone!

I hope you are all doing well and have had a lovely day?

I see that the chat box now expands more as you type. That is a much appreciated feature. I wonder if pressing enter still sends the message or it it now makes a new line?

*tired hugs and silly waves*
Good evening. =)

Can't complain here, how are you feeling after putting in an undoubtedly long day with little to no sleep?
avatar
ddickinson: That's a shame. But at least we have the expanding box. Hopefully the enter thing will be fixed soon as well.

Good evening, Mr Crow!

Glad to hear you are doing okay. I see you are still downloading all your games. When I downloaded my in bulk a while ago (not all of my games, just a few I let build up), I did it smallest to largest. At first it was fine, but the end ones sure do drag, especially when you find one game that is easily larger than dozens of smaller games.

I am good, thank you. Very tired, and hoping I can get some sleep tonight. I have had about an hour or so sleep in two days, and it's not making my hard work day any easier.

*wobbles*I'm doing fine. Will go to my french class late than play a session of Age of Wonders and Tomb Raider.

Is your Paypal all set up now, or did you get your credit card working?

That's true. What annoys me the most is that I lost a lot of my PM history when they switched over. Some were restored, but I lost some conversations.

Yes, they certainly do. It's ultimately silly for me since everything is getting done sooner or later, but I can't help feeling torn between doing a bunch of smaller items or stepping back and running very large ones through to get them out of the way.
The idea of seeing the downloader chew on the same game for 13 hours does not thrill me. That might have something to do with it.

I hope so as well. You put in too many hours to not be getting any kind of rest.

Yes. I think most was restored but still miss some conversations with people from this thread. Still hoping that we will be eventually restored but i'm not too optimistic....

That's good to hear. But at least you don't have to miss out on any games during the sale now.

I think the advantage of the smaller games is the illusion of progress. You see the downloader bar flying by as game after game is downloaded. It makes us think we are doing great. But then when we get to the big games, it's hour after hour with little progress, which makes us believe things are going to take forever. But you will get there, and hopefully now with Galaxy or the update log you will not have to do this again.

Thank you. I am sure it will work out okay, I have just had a lot on my mind recently.

I would not think so. I think it was a big database move, a one time thing. I guess the lost PMs are just seen as collateral damage caused by the new system. But who knows with GOG.

Unfortunetely my CC has a very low credit limit so I'll miss a lot from the sales.
