For me it's beating my head against the wall until I either finish something or move on to something else out of sheer frustration.
Gotta say, though. I could've sworn I've seen you mention Commandos. If you're any good at that series, you're doing better than me.

I'm good at Commandos because I play it constantly, it's save anywhere, and there are no time limits.

I wouldn't call it an RTS period. An RTS to me (and this is just my take) should involve base building and resources. Warcraft 2 and the 1st Starcraft are the best beginner RTS games IMO, of course we don't have those here.

Aside from that Robin Hood is good because it starts off ridiculously easy and slowly gets harder. Just make sure you QuickSave a lot because you will screw up.

I think Real-Time Tactics is a more accurate term for Robin Hood.

RTS's?

Well, despite what a certain unhinged crimson eyeball might have been screaming about for the last couple weeks, the Dawn of War series is actually a good beginner's RTS. (MOSTLY. WELL, HALF OF IT ANYWAY.)

The first game starts simply with you as the commander of an army, then builds upon it in Winter Assault (pity that one still kinda sucks, but it's an expansion so it's not necessary), and then grows into the variety of Dark Crusade, wherein you get not one but seven different armies to choose from. (definitely the best of the series)

I could mention Soulstorm, but seriously. Rancid, putrescent, festering, pulsating boils so large they stretch the skin until the corrupted white/red core of them is clearly visible, only when you pop the boil, it explodes in a shower of flesh-gnawing spiders that immediately attempt to devour your eyes and genitals simultaneously.

Soulstorm's kinda like that. =)

ddickinson: I have never liked how developers don't seem to optimise their games anymore. I don't see why the game would require such high specs, but then I've seen many games on GOG that require specs that even a more complex game with better graphics doesn't need. I have noticed a lot of simple point-and-click games that need way too much ram and/or a powerful graphics card - they may be 3D but there is no reason they need so much ram and such high graphics (it's not like the games use next-gen graphics), other than poor optimisation.
Divinity Original Sin is a newer game and it was the best optimised game i've ever played. My PC ran it smoothly on ultra even though it's a few years old by now.

j0ekerr: Considering how US network executives, seem to think that americans will NOT watch anything that is not set in America, even if it's recorded in the same language (and there is ample proof to the contrary), I'm surprised that no one has ever attempted to do a remake of upstairs downstairs. That makes me think that maybe not all network execs are clinically braindead.
I've just started watching a few episodes of that series recently. It is pretty good. :)

IAmSinistar: Haven't really watched either, I can't bear American remakes of British comedies. American comedies are generally predictable and quite unfunny, and it's even worse to watch them butcher good source material in the process.

Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun and Age of Empires 2 are some of the best RTS games, in my opinion.

Good call! I can't believe I forgot those, and I still play them! :O Man, 39 is way too young for senility!

Of course if Lucas Arts lets us have Galactic Battlegrounds we don't need to have this conversation, we just need to play play play!

Since it was ignored in the "Thread of Random Questions" thread, I'd like to try bringing attention to something that's bugging me ever since yesterday. Has anybody noticed that for some strange reason, Pirates of the Caribbean Online is the top wishlisted game of the week? It even gained 70 votes in a day (see attachment below)! Its wishlist feels like you walked into the Twilight Zone. Why are those people expecting GOG to revive a MMO?

Thanks for all of the answers on RTS's. I own some of those and will give one a try.
Robin Hood actually sounds kinda fun to play. Soulstorm WILL be avoided.
I assume "Real Time Tactics" would be a part of RTS's or do they skip right to the overall strategy part?
As you can tell I never have really deciphered what sets all of them apart from one another. ;)

Well, I'd say it's either a bunch of people doing it as a goof, or some people are, well, dim.
Pick whichever option makes you hate humanity less. =)
