CarrionCrow: Well, they might be idiots, or they might be too lazy to look for half a second and see your name.
Pick whichever scenario makes you feel better about humanity. ;)
Ummmm ... neither? :P Haha, I guess most people are just lazy.
penumbren: OMG. Now I'm laughing over here... I worked at my last job for almost eight and a half years. By the time I left, there were only a couple of people who'd been in that office longer than me, and they were management. People who knew me, literally from my first day there, STILL misspelled my first name routinely, even when answering my emails, because it's the slightly-less-popular spelling of a popular name from 70s. With my first name, I've gotten to the point where I just don't care anymore. The last name tends to send me through the roof, even after 16 years of marriage, because it's just stupidity that makes it hard for people.
That is so annoying. I can't believe that after so many years people just can't be bothered to actually get your name right. >.> And yep, I can totally imagine you getting upset about it. My problems are pretty minor in comparison. For my first name, for instance, I have a silent 'h' at the end that usually doesn't make it. :P
ElTerprise: True. I assume that's the main reason people mix up my name....granted my surname is also a german given name but they only have to look carefully....-.-
But that is really hard for some people. :P
adaliabooks: Nobody here ever gets my surname right (it's Italian), either to pronounce or spell. Coupled with my Irish accent (fainter now, but still there enough to mean even when I spell my name out to people over the phone they get it wrong). I'm pretty resigned to the fact these days...
But if I had a penny for every time I've had to say have this exchange:
"F"
"S?"
"No, F"
"Yes, S"
"F for Freddie"
"Ah. S"
*facepalm*
I'd be rich :)
Hahaha, I'd get real tired of that. :P
