Believe it or not we complain about this all the time but it happens every year to some extent so we just grin and bear it. If it lasts a week or more than it's a different story entirely. ;)

Kind of OT but winter related. I have a web page bookmarked that shows me all the traffic on Lake Superior (its fun to track them as they go by my house). Half of the ships, they range from 800 t0 1200 feet long, are pulling into harbors for the night. When that happens you know it is a BAD BAD BAD BAD STORM. Kind of amazed I have a connection right now.

Yeah, looks like you're in for it again. Superior, the legendary ship eater, wise they're going to harbor for the night.

BTW: tracking the ships is something I'd have a lot of fun doing. ;)

Joking aside, I don't envy your storms. I'm all with you on latitude, but I prefer a nice little ocean breeze. I was sweating on my walk to work today. (Though to be fair, I walk really fast. Was probably mid 40s.) That's mid 40s POSITIVE you Midwestern loons. :)

EDIT: We do have a nice thick fog that has rolled in this afternoon. A few blocks of visibility.

EDIT 2: -40 is really insane. That's a bad day at the summit of Denali, at 20,000' in Alaska.

EDIT 3: Yearly snowfall totals at Paradise (5400' on side of Rainier): http://www.nps.gov/mora/upload/annual-snowfall-totals-sep11-2.pdf 1122 was once the world record, now held by Mt. Baker at 1140 inches. That's about 30 meters of snow, for our non-American friends. :)

We get a Superior breeze which is pretty much the same as an ocean breeze, and in the summer that is fantastic so I can certainly relate. And I'm on the border with Canada so I don't know how mid-west I am though Michigan always gets called that. :P

I love geography, but my referring to everything between the Mississippi and the Rockies as the Midwest is, I'm sure, not accurate at all. Shorthand. :)

I do love my weather in WA. Our ocean breeze works in the summer as well: 90 degrees is a couple-times-a-year thing. But more power to those that can tolerate real winters.

I visited a friend in Lansing in about October of 2006. They didn't turn on the heat until it got "cold" - it was in the teens at night inside that house. Sheesh!
