adaliabooks: It's good fun, takes a bit of getting into and you definitely need to read the manual if you want to have any chance of knowing what's going on.
I'd say more 4x than strategy, it reminds me a bit of CK2 (which as I remember, you have spent a considerable amount of time with, so you'd probably like it) but on a bit more basic scale.
It's quite slow; waiting for fleets and troops to build, waiting for new facilities to build or arrive at their destination, waiting for missions to complete, basically a lot of waiting ;)
I actually played this game on release. I don't think it had the best reception but I loved it. You can fastforward time, which helps a ton. And as you expand, you'll have more systems in which to do things and more agents / fleets so there isn't as much "downtime." But you're right the start is always very slow. And then when you buld your first construction facility only to ship it over the hyperlanes to your new system... LOL - THAT seems to take a while ;)I'd say more 4x than strategy, it reminds me a bit of CK2 (which as I remember, you have spent a considerable amount of time with, so you'd probably like it) but on a bit more basic scale.
