ElTerprise: Thank you. What's Rebellion like. It's a strategy game isn't it?
avatar
adaliabooks: It's good fun, takes a bit of getting into and you definitely need to read the manual if you want to have any chance of knowing what's going on.
I'd say more 4x than strategy, it reminds me a bit of CK2 (which as I remember, you have spent a considerable amount of time with, so you'd probably like it) but on a bit more basic scale.
It's quite slow; waiting for fleets and troops to build, waiting for new facilities to build or arrive at their destination, waiting for missions to complete, basically a lot of waiting ;)
I actually played this game on release. I don't think it had the best reception but I loved it. You can fastforward time, which helps a ton. And as you expand, you'll have more systems in which to do things and more agents / fleets so there isn't as much "downtime." But you're right the start is always very slow. And then when you buld your first construction facility only to ship it over the hyperlanes to your new system... LOL - THAT seems to take a while ;)

l0rdtr3k: Where can I get the Steamless version of Morrowind and Oblivion?
I bought retail version of them years ago but it could apparently the Elder Scrolls Anthology also includes non-Versions of both games.

adaliabooks: Well, I say waiting. I tend to just bump the speed up to fast until I get a notification or two of something interesting happening, slow it down again to deal with them, and then bump the speed up till the next thing happens.
But building things, travelling between sectors and other actions take time. It's measured in days (which are kind of like a turn, something finishes or happens pretty much every day or other day for me) and it can take 100 days to build a capital ship or travel to a far away sector.

But having never really played a 4x game other than Civilisation until I played CK2 I can definitely see that this is the kind of thing Paradox's games evolved from.
Possibly - especially the speed-up function which is also very important in Paradox games (although more important in EUIV than CK2 imho). I think the waiting you described is a real thing (in lack of a better word) present in real-time 4x games.

As tempting as it is,I don't know if I should import especially with the dollar-real trade is high. It's 3 reais for 1 dollar today and it's rising each day.

The conversion is really unfortunate. I'm sorry but this is the only way to get steam free versions of it i know of. Maybe you can find older retail copies of them....

Yeah, I would say it's just a mechanic of real time 4x games, you need to be able to speed up and slow down the action to enjoy it.
It's a bit annoying that you can't pause and manage things (pausing pops up a big dialog that stops the game until you close it), but on the slowest speed setting you're pretty much guaranteed to deal with anything you need to before any new events pop up.
If you enjoy CK2 I would say you'll like it.

In fact, I think I'll go pick up where I left off :)

Good afternoon. =)

Just woke up here, checking in and having some coffee before I finish off Heart of Winter.
A lot of that expansion is ultimately forgettable, but I remember the last chamber and the boss pretty well.

Starting to play AI War, looks nice. Awesome music and decent graphics.
Just starting the tutorial so I don't know much else yet. :)

Good music is always a good start :D
And now I am trying to remember which game it was where I had to silence the music directly in the beginning because it was so annoying *argh*

Hi Crow, had a taste for Sci-Fi today. I would be playing GalCiv 2 if not for Stardock.
AI War I've had for a while and just now trying it, loads of fun so far. ;)
Sunday *hugs and waves* :-)

How about Master of Orion 2 or Alpha Centauri? Or SW: Empire at War?
