AgentBirdnest: I think you are right. Game speed and scroll speed are the only ones I remember. (and I think volume.)
I don't think the series had difficulty until Red Alert, when you could change it for skirmishes(?)

tinyE: RA 1 does have a difficulty setting; I'm playing that off and on too. :P
I can't play any of these new releases because of my old PC so I'm on a severe retro RTS binge. XD
might I suggest you try and find Kohan (immortal sovereigns, Arhiman's gift, or the seccond, Kohan II: kings of war) or sudden strike? Perhaps myth (if you can still find it)?

I think they're still available, and Kohan is about the finest rts I've ever played in my personal opinion.

Sudden strike is a world war II game, but different and really quite fun to play.

if your pc can handle it, act of war and rise of legends are great too...

That's just a few suggestions from someone who's stuck in the same rut (an intel G45/43 chipset with 32 mb dedicated RAM, 3 GB RAM memory and two 2.80 GHz processors) ;)

I have looked into that several times but never pulled the trigger on getting that. I need to figure out why. :P

Thank you for bringing it up though because I'm always looking for other RTS games and I need to reexamine this one.

EDIT
I rememeber now. :D It's way to strategic for me. It's basically a Sid Meyer RTS and I might have been smart enough for that when I was younger but I've killed too many braincells since then.

AgentBirdnest: Thought it might be helpful to yell at someone, but I guess not :-/ ... But the offer still stands ;-)
**Big thank you hug, making sure not to stand too close in case I have to "pouarkh" ;-)**
(no, yelling at people seems to be a bit overrated... but I'll consider your offer ;-p)
ô__ô... Yes, please... I wouldn't like you to "pouarkh" at me...

I could sleep in too, this was truly great :)
Glad to read you had a nice and quiet weekend !

funny, that's the exact reason why I like it so much ;)

I like games to be huge and complicated. In that regard supreme commander (FA if you please) and Kohan are the finest games I've played so far in their genre; and it's the same reason probably why I thought starcraft was crap.

I'm also quite into 4x (although I only own a limited selection of those games), and I'm seriously considering getting Distant Worlds universe...

oh, and cossacks!! (how could I forget? *bash head against wall to sort it out a bit*)

I'm downloading the Kohan demo right now; never hurts to take a look.

LaPtiteBete: Hello Vnlr !! **Big monday hug**
What a gorgeous smile you have n__n
And sorry for your cat :-^ .... (her "periodical femine raging" ?... ):-| good grief... that's pretty insulting...)
avatar
Vnlr: mwehe *smiles*. I didn't mean to target the female population in general or be quite too rude.

It's just that it's that time of the month, she had a large spring cleaning yesterday (which makes her really sensitive) and the worst day is the one after the cleaning; the slightest disturbance in the cleanliness turns her into a bloodthirsty predator. Unfortunately she caught the cat washing herself in a laundry basket. As of now she's taking measures to remove her from the house ;~;

so. sorry if that was quite too rude, but perhaps "periodical femine raging" is ruder than the dutch counterpart I had in mind while typing that :/ (spontane tussentijdelijke aanval van vrouwelijke woedende ambetantigheid) ( un attaque spontane d' ambetantisme des femmes intermettant? tsk, bugger my french ;) )

anyway, "les excuses sont fait pour s'on servir" n'est pas?

edit: literalyy from dutch: "spontanuos and intermittent attack of mad, femine annoyance"
n__n Haha... I sympathize, reading the whole story...
I hope you'll work something out, for your cat :-\
I can't tell, about your dutch phrase (I don't speak a single word in dutch :-\ ... alsjeblieft ? (dammit, I would never had found the good way to write this... but at least I can say it :-D))
= "un attaque spontane d' ambetantisme des femmes intermettant" = un... what ??? ô__ô "embetantisme"... ? heehee... interesting word... je dirais plutôt : "un accès soudain d'hostilité cyclique féminine", but, well, that sounds weird anyway... n__o
Et oui... les excuses sont faites pour que l'on s'en serve, that's true !! ;-p (even if there was really no need for excuses in that case, of course !)

yep, Cossacks does that to you *puts ice on forehead* ;p

Kohan takes a bit of getting into, but once you've got the hang of it, it's a really smooth and enjoyable experience.

I recall having had to (is that even a tense?) try the 2nd or 3rd mission trice (where you have to capture all the cities against fierce barbarian resistance) on hard, and even when I succeeded it took about an hour and a half of raiding, skirmishing and all-out war to push the ai back to its capital. and oh boy, that was a glorious hour and a half.

It should be noted though that while I'm a fan of video games, I most often suck at playing them :)

haha...the problem is that in Flanders a lot of dutchified french words hang arround in the vocabulary ;)
which leads to sometimes funny situations (espacially in parliament, which is half-french half-dutch speaking).

"zich ambetant gedragen", is "acting like a nuisance" (as in bad behaviour). ambetant comes from a similar french word, and you'll never hear it being said in the netherlands I think.

and another *horrible* quirk of the flemish is: "hmm, this english word looks like it could have been french at some point, let's reverse engineer it to something that sounds french and looks the same, and put it in the french text...they'll understand, bright as they are" XD

that, and plain dutchy stuff like: "vous etes combien d'annees?" "j'appelle Vanlaer", mispronounciation like "ils mettent..."-> "iels mettu-n-t" and the like...french class was hilarious, especially with the associated teacher (mr Jeff Deville) "j'ai being constantly mispronounced as "zja". he yelled: zja?! ZJA?!!! JAR-JAR (zja-zja) I know of, but THIS abomination??!" XD

Eeeeeeeeeep. The new promo is tempting me so much. I kinda want Secret of Monkey Island, but I'm not too interested in the other games in the bundle, so I think I'll pass up on it for now and wait for it to go on sale separately.

However, the Broken Sword deal is really tempting me as I only need the fifth one to complete my collection ... Might grab that. :P

EBToriginal: After spending the last five days key farming (and opening over 100 black lion chests) I got around to opening the thousand or so level defendant loot bags and out of one of them drops a precursor. It was only Venom, but hey first dropped pre. Got around to making my howler as well.
Getting a precursor is like winning the lottery. It's goddamn bloody near impossible.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

What I like about legendaries in GW2 is that they have no real gameplay mechanic advantage over ascended gear. Which are nowhere near as impossible to get, just goddamn lengthy and grindy. They just look really cool.

What I don't like is the speculation with them. But that's pretty much unavoidable. 10 gold for a vial of black dye in the first GW?! Why is it that everybody wants to pain their armour black? Damn emo kids.

I don't even have ascended gear, only exotics.
