LaPtiteBete: Ho... a kind of irish coffee ? :D
No... not much sleep... but it's my own fault. I just never want to go to sleep, until I feel completely exhausted.
avatar
j0ekerr: And now I have a sudden craving for Bailey's.
Good morning. =)

It's not bad, but alcohol gets annoying when you'd have to drink two bottles of it to get drunk.
Bit on the expensive side at that rate.

How're you doing today?

AgentBirdnest: Good mornoon, everyone.

New (old) game!
Any thoughts? Has anyone played it?
*big welcome hug* No comments on the game, it is a horror game so nothing for me :D
avatar
moonshineshadow: *welcome hug* Sounds like a great way to start a free day :D
Congrats to the 4th star!

Well, after coffee I will be back battling chaos in out place, so it's not as free a day as I would like. But no worries! :-)

And I'll keep you all updated on the horrors I'm going to encounter.

Good morning. =)

Played a tiny bit of it as a rental, seemed like it didn't flow properly. Maybe that'll be better given that GOG actually tests games before putting them out.

ElTerprise: Yeah. I currently read the Incal so i thought it would be fitting... ;)
I thought about Mua'dib at first but that would have been too much ^^
I read some of Jodorowsky stuff.

The metabarons are overpowered mary sues.

After 2 bottles of Baileys I would be pretty sick fro the cream stuff...

toxicTom: The term is actually pretty old, (Wikipedia mentions 1964 as first appearance) and was made popular with the publishing of Eisner's "Contract with god". But it does not exclude Superheroes, since Moore's Batman and Gibbons' Watchmen also fall into the category.

I think the distinction made sense when it was created, to separate "pulp" from a more serious approach, including fiction with a classic story arc, and even non-fiction like "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art" by Scott McCloud. Even works from the 1920's have been categorized as "graphics novels" in retrospect. I think nowadays the distinction is rather arbitrary, I mean, we don't have different terms to distinguish "Knight Rider" from "Damages" or "Call of Duty" from "Ether One", they're TV series or video games, "TV novels" or "interactive novels".
I know that "The Wire" wascalled a "visual novel" sometimes...but it's exactly my point. Nowadays the distinction is (often) arbitrary and sometimes only used for marketing reasons. The term in general is not because i always have the problem with comic and comical which doesn't really help the medium...

Don't know anything about the "Nosferatu" game...

I can agree only to some degree. It's obviously a variation of the legendary warrior type but i think there are some tragic elements to these characters (the whole family of the metabarons)...

LaPtiteBete: Lol... usually we use whiskey (so that's an Irish coffee) or I rather use cognac (it is called French coffee)... but I hardly ever have some... (only, and rarely, at the restaurant... I can't make them...)
Ah, the "carajillo" pronounced kar-ah-hi-joh. but with brandy and none of that fancy-schmancy poofter cognac. Sure to put hair on your chest.

avatar
LaPtiteBete: Ho, I have them all... Great comics ! :) (do we say "comics" for this kind of books ?.... I'm not sure...)
Bande desinée?

You'd end up with queasiness from the sugar before you got drunk. -laughs-

Doing fine, catching up on the thread as you can see.

It's not so mild, it's about 17º which is on the highest ends of wine.

You'd probably be wasted after that much or have a liver made of charcoal.

Good morning moon, that is one beautiful rep number. Would be a shame if something happened to it. (mouse pointer hovers over the + sign)

Thanks. I didn't know that... "visual novel"... pretty silly term. Comics, games, movies are all visual media.

If you want a beverage that will sprout hair while simultaneously eroding your will to live, try this festive concoction I came up with a while back -

Take half a cup of cheap egg nog, then fill the other half of it with some even cheaper pinot noir from a crappy bottom-shelf grocery store.
Wait a few minutes while the two substances battle it out. When the drink resembles a cross between half-coagulated dairy, a fresh bruise, and tentacle porn in a pit full of Jello, drink it all in one swallow.

I call it a Weeping Boil due to its appearance and the general feeling that you're literally sucking the pus from an infected wound when you drink it.

ElTerprise: Good Morning :).
Referring to Maus Graphic Novel definitely fits but a lot works comics are labelled Graphic Novels nowadays without really fitting in that category.

I still have to read Maus though.

Edit: oh great. University wi-fi starts trolling again *sigh*
avatar
FearfulSymmetry: Yes, that is true. What sets Maus apart from many others is its very serious subject matter.

It's a good read, I'd definitely recommend it.
Although usually not associated with the word novel. There are some jewels floating around in the cesspool of the harem, fanservice, panchira and nekkid imoutos that has become the manga industry.

Do take a look at Adolf, it's a brilliant masterpiece of storytelling. And coincidentally deals with the same time period.

When I read it, I was surprised because in spite of the cartoony, stylized and downright silly at times art style, the mastery shown by Tezuka over the narrative form made it feel unimportant. Credit where credit is due. The use of differently sized panels, backgrounds and perspective is downright brilliant.
