adaliabooks: We only really go in for the odd stuff that you don't get in the regular supermarkets (they sell a decent selection of European foods, like the lebkuchen)
Ah ok, I did not know that. Here they only have all the normal stuff which you can get in every other supermarket too, so no reason to go there for me and now that I am living in Switzerland I seldom see one, they are not that widespread there. At least in the part I live in ;-)

adaliabooks: That's odd. Ginger and cinnamon are particularly common in Christmas dishes here (sweet ones anyway), it's supposed to be because they were expensive in the past so to be able to afford it meant you were well to do.

But fresh ginger is also delicious in savoury cuisine. Stir fries and curries are delicious with fresh ginger.
Cultural and geographical differences, I don't think cinnamon was particularly expensive here for well over a century.

Ginger is simply a no show. I've heard it being described as, "something they put in chinese food".

Yeah, over here most of the stuff they sell is knock offs of the big brand things and imported stuff. Knocks offs are generally rubbish, but the imported stuff can be nice.

Yeah, spices probably weren't such a luxury in Spain. Odd that ginger is not used at all though... though thinking about it other than ginger bread and things like mince pies or Christmas pudding there's not much ginger used in British cooking... just in Chinese or Indian dishes.

Started it several times, never got very far. Known as the predecessor to the Fallout games it's known for being quite good. One of those must read the manual first games. ;)

-laughs- There is no subject here. ;)
Like Endre, it's one of those titles I've started, then stopped, but keep intending to play fully before I get Wasteland 2.
ok enough talk about cookies and bad discounters for me, I'll try to get some sleep now. See you all later :-)

moonshineshadow: I can agree to that. What is really delicious is the original Nürnberger Lebkuchen!
Now we're talking! :-D

Yeah, it's mostly cheap budget food.

The sister of a friend of mine lives in Germany, and told me that in its homeland, lidl is considered third rate at best. or where you shop when you want to get rid of unwanted guests.

But like for Adalia, is the only place you can buy some very particular stuff. Like brezels.

Brezels and beer.

And good night.

Goodnight. Sleep well when you get there. =)
All this talk of food and christmas cookies makes me slightly hungry. Don't have any cookies here though. :(

Going to go make tea instead and leave you with this song.

Good night everyone. :)
