CarrionCrow: Doing okay overall. Another standard day, but at least the weather's nice, so I'm enjoying that before summer hits and I'm slowly roasting for 3 to 5 months.

How are you tonight?
avatar
moonshineshadow: Doing ok. I play the waiting game and in the breaks checking the forum here :D
And I'm sitting here thinking, "Wow, my people should be hobbling on broken knees and ankles by now, given how many holes they've either fallen into, or willingly jumped into" with Legend of Grimrock. -laughs-
So frigging nonsensical, to continually throw themselves into dark holes with who knows what at the bottom.

Damn. Another game i still have to play.
avatar
moonshineshadow: Anvil of Dawn. It has no resting function so you end up just taking breaks where the game is running to regenerate life and mana (which is really slow). It is still a nice game, but that really spoils the fun and the potential the game had.
avatar
l0rdtr3k: Isn't resting pretty much an essential mechanic in Dungeon Crawlers?
Also,*hugs*
Normally it is. Apparently the devs of this one did not think so ;-)

You are absolutly right :D But I have to admit I never even thought of something like that, it was more like "A hole! Let's jump down and explore more!". I never have these realistic things intrude in my games.
Also Anvil of Dawn seems to have no holes, no jumping in ;-(

They wanted to make something different. But changed the wrong mechanic.

Hmm. Draw against Australia....

Why? It's a necessary mechanic to the game. It even adds tension because enemies could still attack you.

Which mechanic would you remove in a Dungeon Crawler,EIT?

I don't know. I don't have much experience with Dungeon Crawlers to say the least. Actually i cannot think of a mechanic worth removing.

Don't feel bad. The number of games in my "damn, more games to play" is in the hundreds.
Also, I'm figuring you've been ever so slightly busy with the whole higher education thing. ;)

Yep. It is always fun trying to rest or running around finding a hiding place to rest :D Or with enemies who can't open doors to hide behind a closed door for a quick rest :P

I can see the desire to explore everything, but doesn't anyone in these games think of bringing a rope?
I can't help but see the image of my characters all holding hands like lunatics with a suicide pact all screaming WHEEEE!, then jumping headfirst into every dark space they can find.

Right. I don't play that much recently. From the games i got in the insomnia sale i only tried two games out. But i played a bit Tesla Effect today (but i got that one earlier).

But on the other hand i'm now frequently at the forum :).

Advice on New Vegas:Charisma is not a dump stat.
The same goes to D&D,why do some people insist on not putting points in CHR?

I'll tell you something. Legend of Grimrock 2 has a map where you find a rope to climb up and down ;-)

But I still love the jumping in holes. WHEEEE!

Would Legends of Grimroc be a good start for someone without great experience in Dungeon Crawlers?

Hmmm... hard to say, depends on what is important to you.
Legend of Grimrock is a great game, but some people complain that the puzzles are too hard or that sometimes puzzles rely on speed. But since it is a newer game the graphics are quite nice. I never had these problems, just mentioning them, since I read these complains.

If you are not bothered by older graphis you could play the first Lands of Lore. Awesome game in my opinion! (Warning: I may be biased by nostalgics :D)
