EndreWhiteMane: I've been doing that most of the time but I've totally lost track of updates, etc. Just wanted to start over and then keep things up better.
May have changed my mind at this point though. :-)

ddickinson: Could you not just check the file version with the one on your GOG shelf? If it is the same number then would that not mean you have the latest version?
I could if they matched but half the time I'll have version 2.3.0.11 and the game shelf will say just 2.3.0, GOG is very, very bad about this.

Stilton: I found the perfect way of dealing with exam stress, and that was not to go to the exams. I even got an 'A' for a couple of them, which pleased me until I found out it meant 'Absent.' That part of my life was hard - home life, school life, life life. So I got kicked out of school, had some time to think, and then went and studied to get into art college, by which time I wanted to learn and it was a pleasure. I prefer to do things my own way and have found it gets me the best results. I'v had some interesting jobs, had some of my writing published, exhibited paintings in good London galleries and met some like-minded people, so it works if I apply myself.

ElTerprise: Unfortunately that's not an option for me. It's the only thing left before getiting my bachelor's degree as i just got my grade for my bachelor thesis.
Sounds like a huge congratulations will be in order soon! Please let us know how things go. ;)

EndreWhiteMane: Looks like something Crow might like when he can't decide which game to torture himself with. :-)
That's true. But I think he has more sadistic torture methods he could use. Like Soulstorm, or Hatoful Boyfriend. :-)

Speaking of Hatoful Boyfriend, was I the only one that though the people in the screenshots were female? Someone told me that you play a woman and the people in the screenshots are male students at the school. I am really out of touch with anime styles these days.

CarrionCrow: Crap. That's tech for you.

That is pretty amazing, to be sure. One question, though - just how long will the shieldmaiden be willing to hang out the window before she says to hell with it and goes off to do something else? =)

Stilton: She's got the constitution of an ox and she likes a bit of fresh air, even at approaching midnight, so she's probably good for a few more hours yet ;-)
Don't want to jinx things but what distro did you use?

All pigeons look alike to me.

Fortunately for myself, being 'creative' relies more upon the work you can produce rather than on qualifications. For more formal goals, like yours, you are tied to a curriculum for much of the time and there probably isn't any way around it, unless you were to gain experience in the workplace and advance that way. Art definitely has some advantages, but they are usually offset by intermittent periods of unemployment, unless you can produce something that gives you the elusive breakthrough, of course.

Is it still the case for the actual downloaded file? Could you add the file to the downloader and then when it is downloading check the file name against the one you have already. If it matched, you could cancel the download, if not then download the newer version. Sorry if this results in the same problem as you mentioned above, it's not something I have ever looked at before.

ddickinson: I know just the thing for a bad back, and it fits in nicely with all this talk of Ds. What you need is a good rack. That would get your back straight in no time. :-)

EndreWhiteMane: Looks like something Crow might like when he can't decide which game to torture himself with. :-)
I think I'll pass on that one. The chair I sit in is bad enough already, I don't need to add to my "fun".

My advice - Don't mention the prospect of her spending half the night hanging out the window.
If for some reason you do mention it to her, make sure you've got your helmet on beforehand. ;)

When I get confused about updates, new versions of installers, patches and all that, I shut the downloader option off, then load it up to check the specific numbers like you said. If the numbers are the same, I know I'm up to date.

I certainly hope so. I'll let you all how it went.

EndreWhiteMane: Don't want to jinx things but what distro did you use?
I settled on Lubuntu, which seems to like my PC more than Mint did. Through fairly limited experience I've found that finding the best marriage between hardware and OS makes a hell of a difference. The problem is it means testing a stack of distros to get to that point. Some fail completely, some are OK, and some are plain brilliant. I don't mind the schlepping so much, if it leads to something good.

ddickinson: That's a shame about Pillars of Eternity. Was it a game you were looking forward to?

As for cracking backs, I have no clue.
Big fan of Baldur's Gate,so yeah.

avatar
EndreWhiteMane: I can't run Pillars either.
I lean way back over a low backed chair to stretch my back. If it hurts too much to do that see a doctor instead, don't injure yourself.
Just did that and,my god... My back relaxed all at once.

I have seen your chair. I really think you should get a more modern chair. :-)

So maybe that would be an option for Endre, to save him having to download everything all over again?

Makes sense to me though still a fair amount of work. What I may do is re-download the important ones and then start going through the others.
I didn't used to use the downloader so that adds another level of frustration in that my folder naming isn't the same as the downloader uses.
Come on Galaxy! :-)
Woohoo!

Caught up!
But now I'm going to bed... XD

Busy here tonight, looks like we have a full house. I just thought I'd stop in to tell you I had a great night at work, very promising pitch. I'll probably celebrate by buying the DLC for Tales of Maj'Eyal tomorrow (I'm fairly sure I can manage a whole £0.69)

Might not sleep just yet, but if I don't post agin you'll know why.

I'm afraid it'll still take them some time to release it. But hopefully it's more like that: Galaxy is never late, nor is it early, it arrives precisely when it means to. :P
