AgentBirdnest: I'm actually a bit surprised that there aren't any places open in the middle of the night where I live. A college town, with 10,000 stoned kids... Seems like night pizza would make great money... They usually close at 9pm though :-\
Well that is odd, we do really well on an evening and I would have thought a pizza place would stay open till at least 10 or 11pm...
Stilton: Hi all! Hope everyone's well and enjoying their day. The sun's beautiful here and the only less than delightful thing is a couple of old bags yakking non stop in front of my house. They come out when the sun starts to shine and 'graze' like a couple of Friesians, which in itself isn't a problem. Its the volume of their chatter - it penetrates and gets inside your skull like a pair of trapped bluebottles. I've got a sniper rifle around here somewhere....
Hey Stilton, weather is lovely up here for a change too. Long may it last!
toxicTom: Tbh things are not that good atm. I stayed home yesterday (sudden sickness - call me retchin' Tom). My boss was mad like hell since we had server problems with once of hour customers. He tried to take care of it, but ultimately it would have been my responsibility and he had to postpone important stuff to look into it. On the bright side - while I usually can't cope with people screaming at me on the phone, yesterday I just didn't care and let it flow over me while I was fighting another wave of barfing urge.
I trudged into office today but I don't feel that well and work is going very slowly. But the boss was astonished I made my way here at all and so he got a lot more peaceful and friendly.
On top of that my wife had staff meeting yesterday. She works in kindergarten and her contract is limited to August this year. While it had seemed that she would get her renewal for the last months, yesterday it turned out that it very probably won't happen. My wife had been at home for 7 years (when she was with our first child - complications) before she started to work again last September. It's not just about the money. She was withering away, getting depressive and putting on a lot of weight. Now she's working - with a lot of expected preparations to be done off-hours - and doing advanced training in parallel with exams and homework coming up - so there's not even time to write applications.
Sorry you've not been feeling great.
And that's awful about your wife, I've worked on temporary contracts before and the wondering if your going to be kept on or renewed at the end is dreadful. And it can be very difficult to find other work if you know your not going to be. I hope she's able to find something.
