OK Coffee lovers, this is for you.

Remember kopi luwak? which is basically cat poop coffee?

Well turns out that the kopi luwak farms force feed the civets like a frenchman with a goose. That is cruel and filthy. So a canadian had the idea of using another animal that would produce a higher yield of half digested coffee beans per poop.

BRING IN THE ELEPHANTS.

Thus he feeds the elephants coffee cherries then sieves the poop for the beans. To produce a very expensive coffee.

Isn't it wonderful?

The perils of TV documentaries.

moonshineshadow: No :-(
I wrote her a message and sent her some hugs. I hope she'll be back soon.
I hope too... :-(

CarrionCrow: Haven't seen a thing from her in a while, and I tend to be here quite a bit.

Also getting more than a bit concerned about her wellbeing.
:-\ Hum... Will you let us know if you hear something ?
Also, thanks for this awesomely fast review !! Ô__ô ... sounds interesting !

Additional - Sokobond is a puzzle game wherein you have a certain number of atoms that have to be connected in a certain way to make molecules.
Each atom has a certain number of connections it can make to other atoms, as is displaying by the spinning orbs around them.
(And yes, I'm certain there's an actual scientific name for those components, but I dropped out of frigging high school and I'm too lazy to check on Google for specific terminology at the moment. Deal with it. -laughs-)

One of the gameplay elements is that you can use atoms that have no connections to move other atoms around the board.
Since both atoms have to have at least one spinning orb in order to make a connection, you can effectively manipulate them that way.

It's not a puzzle-platformer, or any kind of hybrid whatsoever. This is all puzzle game, all day.
12 completed levels in so far, but I already get the feeling that this is going to end up getting very, very complex by the end, with a whole lot of resetting the level.

But, at the very least, they do provide an undo button so you can take steps back sequentially rather than having to start from scratch every single time.
He= Helium
N= Nitrogen
H= Hydrogen
C= Carbon
;)
the connections are electrons, which molecules can share in pairs to obtain a full outer electron shell; every atom "wants" to have eight electrons on it's outer shell (in most cases, those with substantially smaller amounts of protons in their cores will want less, because their outer electron shell isn't as big, Hydrogen, for example, would only have to share its single electron with another atom to form a pair to be "content", or obtain a full outer shell).

This tendency is mainly what causes atoms to bind to each other. I don't know if ions are part of the games's mechanics, so I won't ramble about those :p (they're easy though, an atom which has too many or too few electrons will try to compensate by donating one to another molecule, ie 2H+ and SO4 2-. the two "hydrogen" atoms each lack an electron, and the Sulfate molecule has two too much, so the sulfate will "donate" it's two reserve electrons to hydrogen, which forms an electric binding between the atoms involved. thus, H2SO4, or sulfuric acid is formed)

I don't know if this is relevant to the game, but if it isn't your basic chemistry has at least been freshened up a little ;)

Covalences, they refer to the number of electrons that may be exchanged with another atom to form a molecular bond.

That's about all I remember, I struggled, but was reasonably competent with inorganic molecular chemistry. And then we got to organic chemistry and I got utterly screwed.

CURSE YOU BENZENE RING!

I've actually had a beer that uses this (the civet cat version NOT the elephant one LOL).

It was pretty good, but I love coffee stouts. Not sure I have such a refined palate that I'd ever know the difference between snooty weasel poop coffee and just some decent dark roast joe, though.

Absolutely. Whenever she reappears, I'll be sure to let everyone know, since it's a safe bet that everyone who speaks with her is a bit on the worried side.

Not a problem. =) Figure that if you and Moonshine were kind enough to offer it to me, the least I could do is get some further info on the game out so you'll have a better idea of whether or not you want it.

Never got that far. High school was pretty much a hit-and-miss experience, with it being far more miss than hit.
Got through a year of it (barely), and that was effectively the end.

*hug* Thanks for that. It sounds like an interesting game. Perhaps I will get it someday, but I need to think about that when I am fully there... at the moment my brain is taking some kind of break due to the remains of my cold... I tried playing a few more levels of Mousecraft and I did not manage to solve anything, so I clearly should not make any decisions at the moment :D

Your body's still recovering. That includes your brain.
You'll be solving puzzles again soon enough. =)

Barley fed civets? That's strange, not that they eat it, but that the barley can be recovered at all. Coffee cherries are exactly that, cherries and the coffee bean is the pit, the civet eats the thing whole, then poops the undigestible pit.

But a barley grain has no meaty part.

I just saw another food documentary about Kobe beef. Apparently a 150gr cut can go for as much as 100$.

Bollocks to that!

But then again, 100gr of 5J black leg ham can cost upwards of 20€.

Vnlr: That is a nice look on things, but I'm afraid I don't have enough faith in humanity to think they won't get the vital step in paragraph two wrong :(

on the other hand, the English people did deal with Thatcher in a lovely way, to pose a counter-example to myself.
Well, I have a great love of history which helps to put things in perspective, and I still have faith in people. :)

avatar
Vnlr: I once noticed the quote: "humanity ussualy gets it right in the end, but only after they've tried every single dumb alternative" floating arround a Richard Dawkins video on youtube, which would seem to fit nicely into the picture.
I believe Winston Churchill first said something like this about Americans....

avatar
Vnlr: I do indeed hope the current system will fall soon, and I only hope large groups of people will get mad at those responsible for the heinous economic mischief ;)

Alternatively, if the "revolution" fails, and we keep on going as we have been doing for the past decades, I don't really see humankind making it to the next big financial breakdown for a retry (with the planet going to hell and not much being done about it and all that).
Just because you don’t see it on the “News” doesn’t mean that
people aren’t already protesting on every continent and in almost every Nation,
because they are, and it isn’t being covered.

avatar
Vnlr: What do you think of the economic model in which the only shareholders a corporation can have are it's employees? My dad always says that's a big solution to the corporate greed at all expenses issue?
I think an employee having an Ownership Stake in a company is a good option for a business, but it doesn’t have to be the only option though.

Just to be clear I am not against business or corporations, as I was once a high level executive myself, and even sat in on Board Meetings. I’m just against the standard operating procedures of corruption that have become commonplace over the last 30 years, especially the excessive executive compensation which is now 200 times or more than of their employees.

Most of the CEO’s nowadays are financiers, who are artificially inflating the value of their companies by buying back shares of stock, using zero interest loans from the Central Banks too, mind you, instead of re-investing that capital into their companies and employees to make a better product, or provide a better service. And of course, as the "value" of the company goes up, they get bonuses on top of their egregious compensation. They even get special compensation when they fail, just for leaving.

Then again, it’s the same people running these Corporations who are sitting in the executive Board Rooms, who also get to conspire together to decide what their compensation should be, against the interests of their shareholders, who they say they are doing all this for. Madness, indeed...

Oh no to clarify the beer was a normal stout that had coffee added to it during the brewing process. The coffee added was kopi luwak / weasel poop coffee.
Did someone say that Shadowgate was a bit of a letdown? I like the way it looks, but if the gameplay/story side of things is sub par then I probably won't go for it.

Great, isn't it, being able to ask for on the spot opinions... ;-)

Well, I just started it, but like it so far.

From what I remember, Endre's gotten a lot further and he likes it quite a bit.

I have not played it yet, but I bought it because I think it looks interesting. Sorry for not being much help ;-)

-laughs- My go-to answer for everything I haven't already played.

"Why should I buy this?"

"Well, it looked good, so I bought it. The other 45 looked good as well, so I bought them too. Hope it helps."
