adaliabooks: We start to get busy again as of next weekend which is good. Our first big event of the year which should hopefully be a good one.
avatar
ddickinson: That's great to hear. I hope thinks start to pick up for you now that the worst of the weather seems to be behind us. Of course, there are always the floods to look forward too, but hopefully they won't effect your trade too much. :-)
Hopefully the weather holds decently. We've got a Marmalade Festival next weekend which is supposed to be really big so we're hoping to do well, then after that we start a new regular pitch in a local village community hall which will hopefully be quite good and be a weekly one, and then the events really start in April and May and on into the Summer so we should be doing better.

ddickinson: I agree. Generally I would never be so picky, I get that it's to build atmosphere, but when you are trying to go for immersion and realism, it can spoil things a little. It's nothing major, but it just spoils the illusion of being on the island all alone.
I always wondered who leaves the chests and puts the really complicated locks on doors in dungeons. I get that you want to put puzzles in a game, but sometimes you stop and wonder who has 30 mins to spend every time they open their front door...

Just remember to save a bit of the profit for a rainy day. Not too much though, as you want to have a nice time with your parter with the money you make. :-)

This game has similar puzzles, puzzles that don't quite make sense and are overly complicated for a small island. I have been playing it about 3-4 hours so far in total, if you take out the time I pause it to do some jobs. I get the feeling I'm close to finishing it. If the ending is okay, then 3 stars if it's cheap. If not, then 2 stars and probably not recommended.

We definitely will, going to be a lot more careful this year (well, I say that now... XD)

Just out of curiosity, would you say that a 3 star game is something you would buy?
For me I kind of would only buy a game if I thought it would be 4 stars (maybe 3.5 at a push) or more. I know you can't always know in advance and just because others liked it doesn't mean you might but for me when I rate things 3 stars it's kind of.. neutral, no strong feelings either way, 2 stars is bad and 1 star is awful. Whereas 4 stars is good and 5 stars is excellent. But I often wonder if this scale is actually counter intuitive as when I used to bother to rate my music I found I had hardly anything less than a three (because I only bought stuff I liked) and wondered if actually a 1 star should be a neutral / ok game and it should move up from there...
I just wonder how everyone else sees it?

If a 3 star game looks like it would be interesting, I would get it if it was cheap (such as part of a bundle). I sometimes watch some stuff on YouTube about a game as well, if it interest me enough. I have seen too many games with horrible reviews, which I ended up liking, and way to many games given good reviews and I ended up hating the game. I think my 3 star is a bit like your neutral. It has it's good points and it's bad. Don't expect anything too good, which is why I would say only for a small price. Mind for me is a 2, definitely not a good game for me, but it may appeal to some. I think a 1 star is for those games that are just horrific and unplayable. If I finish a game, I give it at least 2, if it was 1 then I would have never finished it.

Also, I just did a puzzle on Montague's Mount that made no sense. It's a number puzzle, I did the number puzzle correct, but it didn't work. It turns out one of the numbers it gave me is wrong. A bit of trial and error sorted it, but that definitely is not good and I can see some people getting stuck.

Edit: And a strange bug that just threw my character randomly 30 feet into the air. Not bad for a guy who is injured and walking with a stick. :-)

That sounds pretty similar to how I see it then. I was just curious as to whether I was the only one who looked at it like that, or whether it was the general view.

Broken puzzles (or anything I suppose) suck, you would think someone might have spotted that at some point and it would be fixed...

Bugs on the other hand can occasionally be quite funny :)

*May contain spoilers for Montague's Mount, please don't read if you intend to play the game.*

Well that's Montague's Mount finished. It took me 3 hours 8 minutes, according to the game statistics. Overall, due to some things I discovered (see edit), I would say 2 stars for me.

I'm in two minds about the game. If it was just on the gameplay, I would say 2 star, but I liked the story mostly and I think this brings it up to a 2.5 star. The puzzles to begin with were okay, a little far fetched but okay. Then towards the end they get so silly (like a hidden lock on a basic country gate that is triggered remotely from a special number puzzle further down the beach, or candles moving a locking mechanism). The story was okay, but I thought the ending was rather rubbish, and not finished. Clearly there was meant to be a sequel, but without the sequel to complete the story, I can't really recommend it. Perhaps if the ending had been better, then it would be worth it. But for me personally, I would give it a miss unless you can get it cheap from a bundle.

Edit: Also, the whole based on a True Story is mostly just there to make it seem more emotional. It turns out that the only thing it is based on is the creator feeling isolated when he moved to Ireland from England. There does not seem to be any evidence that any of the actually story is based on anything true. Personally, I think this is a bit of a jerk thing to do to make your game sound more emotional. In fact, I am knocking my rating back to 2 becasue of that, as I feel it is uncalled for to try to trick people to be more interested in the game.

Here is a extract from an interview with the developer:

"Yeah it’s one of those things like in cinema where there is a certain amount of artistic license used with a statement like that, but it’s based on me really. I’m originally from the UK, and I moved over to Ireland probably about 7 or 8 years ago, so coming over was a bit like a fish out of water scenario. The way of life here is so much slower than the cities of England, and although I wouldn’t say it’s strictly semi-autobiographical, there is a lot of me in the story.

In the game, every object you see is described in Irish, and I added that to convey the feeling of alienation. The narration is the player’s default language but the in-game objects descriptions are in Gaelic, with a very small subtitle, and I did that the heighten that emotion and force the player to read what is actually going on.

Getting back to your question, it’s one of those stories that could happen anywhere but it is loosely based on parts of my life."

Here's the deal. I'm fed up of posting on various threads on different forums and constantly correct my post....type, backspace, reword, backspace, read from the beginning of my post, decide a paragraph doesn't make sense..reword...

So, I've decided to type this post without checking or rewording and I've saved about 5 minutes by doing so.

Cool. Sounds like a plan to me.

BTW I just noticed today is my 800th here. Do I get a medal or something? :D

I've already done that. Twice. It doesn't go down well with the neighbours
Good evening to you all, I hope I find you well?

Just saw they did/are doing a remaster of the two homeworlds...good to see they are still polishing their old gems up.

and I must be going mad or something, my dreams keep getting more and more random and irrational in their content, and somehow (though not entirely unwelcome), they always star a bunch of quarians...(and that while I couldn't care less about the drab mass effect games themselves)

I've been doing a little stretched out Mel Brooks marathon, and have rewatched spaceballs, blazing saddles, silent movie and young frankenstein, but I was wondering how the one with the polish theatre company during the second world war was called? with the airmen and the rediculous song with hitler in the beginning?

Yes but I gotta step in here and say that polishing up Homeworld might be akin to when Lucas "polished up" the original Star Wars movies. You can't improve on perfection and Homeworld is as close to perfection as gaming will ever get.
Indeed, I was hoping they were just bumping up the graphics a bit etc...but I also DO hope they keep their fingers of everything else. We'll see where that goes. I am not going to get hold of that new edition untill my own homeworld cd's break down completely anyway ;)

You obviously know the game. We need to hang out. :P
I love anime,I really do. But there are some show the I absolutely hate like Seikon No Qwaser, one of the worst shows I ever saw. Why? Fanservise. Don't get me wrong,I don't mind fanservice.
The problem is that this show has too much, like every 5 minutes there's a panty shot,a boob or ass shot. A message to the creator,if you want to make hentai, make hentai!
Bland characters, awful story, irritating VA but I'll give it credit because the art and animation are really good
Before I forget, the main character and villains power up by drinking breast milk directly from the source. I like boobs but that's just disgusting,I know there's a fetish for it but it's not mine.
