Star Wars chess or regular chess? :-)

budejovice: It's not something I'd do without heavy recommendations, but would you start at 2? And if so, why?
Honest answer? No I would start with the first one because of getting to know the story and great characters which you can meet again in the second part. And while it takes a while to get used to the control it is a good game.

budejovice: Normally Mac. I have an ~2012 MBP i5 w/ 4GB RAM as the machine that has done most of my GOGing this year.
Yay, another Mac user :-). I normally use a Mac, although I dual boot to Windows for a lot of my games, due to them being Windows only.

I had considered that and/or Wine as a possible solution, but I am going to just build something fancy pretty soon so I can go overboard with a graphics card. Unfortunately I'm a bit lazy, and that Windows-only GOG catalog is really a sight to see (especially as I'm a huge sim fan). Walking to the basement at work to grab the win7 laptop was even easier than learning a method to play on Mac. :)

Well I'll definitely make sure to grab the first one before long! :)

Do you mean Dejarik, or just normal chess with Star Wars-themed pieces? (I am such a nerd :P)

Just never ask me to play 4-way chess. That experience was a brutal mindf***.

budejovice: So, if you guys were to recommend one single game, from all of GOG's current catalog, for me to play on Christmas, what would that be?

Favorite genres are Sim & Strategy, but I love them all. What would you have me play?

I'll probably just decide on something Win-only that has been tickling my fancy for a long time, since I now have a modest windows machine going at home, or spend more time with some of the bigger games I've gotten in to recently. But I still am curious about the game that is special to you. At worst I'll move it from my backlog's backlog to my backlog. And FYI, the windows laptop only has integrated graphics & 2GB RAM.

I love having the whole catalog at my playing hands now. Spent most of my gaming time over the weekend on Port Royale. It was fun. :)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Settlers II Gold Edition, Settlers III, Settlers IV or Call to Power II.

EndreWhiteMane: Are you normally Mac or Linux? If Linux I'd recommend King's Bounty: The Legend. Just started it but it's a wonderful game so far. RPG/Strat/Fantasy

budejovice: Normally Mac. I have an ~2012 MBP i5 w/ 4GB RAM as the machine that has done most of my GOGing this year.
HOMM 2 and 3 are Win only, surely you've played those?

budejovice: Appreciate the recommendation! I would probably prefer to discover them in order and I don't yet have the first Gothic. On the wishlist of course.

It's not something I'd do without heavy recommendations, but would you start at 2? And if so, why?
I just started playing Knights of the Old Republic for the first time. I haven't managed to put much time into yet, but it's very enjoyable so far. If you haven't played it, I can recommend it.

If you wan't something more casual in strategy genre then I would recommend Settlers 2 Gold or its graphical remake. If you wan't a bit more action then Total Annihilation to which you can install the Total Escalation mod that adds a lot of content to the game. Simulation -> Simcity 4 or Roller Coaster Tycoon 2.

What!? Okay, how did you get it? Did you get gifted it? Did you get tricked into it (like I did with the mutator promo, thankfully I gifted it to myself, so I don't have to suffer with it on my shelf)? Or did you actually pay money for it?

I used to have a proper gaming pc, but sadly she died. I tend to play many of the games on the Windows partition, even if there is a Mac version, as often the Mac version is not as good (poorly ported, requires more resources, less attention to bug fixes etc.).

Erm... I had do Google it, but I did indeed mean Dejarik (what's wrong with just calling it Star Wars chess? What is it with these Star Wars nerds? ;-)). I have never tried 4-way chess, it's been a long time since I played some regular chess, so not sure how good I would be at 4-way chess.
Good night/afternoon everyone how are you guys doing?

Had, not exactly a busy day, but rather eventful. Took a walk, allowed the sun to shine on my mole man complexion, came back, found that the keyboard had definitely died for good. Gnashed my teeth a bit about the whole job interview thing, had lunch, took a siesta since the TV was busy with telenovelas. Went out and bought a new keyboard, and finally, tried a bit of Dark Souls 2.

MOTHERF...ASSSO...YOU BA...GRMBFGLHLDARNTHREPGRURGHLEFFFUG... DIMINISHING HEALTH BAR EVERY TIME YOU DIE.

And you die a lot.

From Software hates YOU!

I've skimmed the surface of the past posts. There seems to be a lot of hugging going around.

EndreWhiteMane: A blue has confirmed that Lords of Xulima is coming to GOG. I find this exciting if it's not quite as combat heavy as some would have you believe.
A friend of mine is playing it, prioritizing it over sleep. He swears it's awesome, and claims he's supporting local talent. Although I bet the latter is just him running his mouth like usual. He's been nagging me to get it as well.

ddickinson: Good evening everyone!

How are all you lovely people doing tonight?

EndreWhiteMane: All seems pretty well with the world today, nothing worth complaining about anyway. How's DD today?
eh...hehehehee... Double D...

avatar
ddickinson: I love a good mixture of games, most genres. The biggest genre of games I have on GOG are point-and-click games, one of my all time favourite type of games, especially the older ones (like Simon the Sorcerer and I have no mouth and I must scream).
So do I :D (Old) click'n play's are my favourite !

ddickinson: Star Wars chess or regular chess? :-)
I have a Star Wars chess at home :D i bought it 16 year ago... good grief.

CarrionCrow: Zombie Shooter. It's easy to learn, it'll run on your laptop, and when you play it you'll feel festive since your screen will be nice and red. ;)
You disappoint me, I was sure you'd be suggesting something with a bit of an aviary touch to it.

EndreWhiteMane: Hope you're not joining the ranks of the sickies but if you're having the same wonky weather this year as many of us it's hard not to catch something.
The wonky weather has definitely something to do with it, but I'm confident that I'll dodge it.

@budejovice
You should play Indy. ;-)

I think i got that game in a humble bundle.
