moonshineshadow: *good morning hug* The quote is quite interesting. A fresh world after waking from sleep does not sound too bad ;-)
ddickinson: It's a quote from The Picture of Dorian Gray. The book is not one of my favourites, but it does have some insightful elements to it. moonshineshadow: You are probably right :D
But I can't shake the feeling that it is such a waste of time to make your way through all this shitty stuff ;-)
ddickinson: I agree, but he seems to avoid good games and movies like the plague. Short of someone taking all those horrible games and movies away from him, I don't see him changing. :-) But I can't shake the feeling that it is such a waste of time to make your way through all this shitty stuff ;-)
In all honesty, though, the only pleasure I receive from such things is the feeling when they're done, so I never have a reason, rational or not, to ever touch them again.
I have a few like that.
But fortunately, I have far more games of quality than ones that aren't. Out of 750 or so titles, I'd say the ones that scream out in their atrociousness would be less than 30.
Yes, that one's an old favorite of mine. Used to rent it a fair bit from the local video store after finding it as a fluke one day.
Tarantino, Cronenberg, Lynch...Some of my perennial favorites. =)

moonshineshadow: Nah I would not agree with that. Why the hell would I want to wake up with Sigourney Weather? :P
LaPtiteBete: Agent would, obviously ;-p *grinning hug*

CarrionCrow: With bad games, I clear them because it feels incredibly silly to purchase something and not clear it. I don't buy things for them to sit.
In all honesty, though, the only pleasure I receive from such things is the feeling when they're done, so I never have a reason, rational or not, to ever touch them again.
I can understand that. I have to admit while I will probably also play the games I have, I tend to just put the games I do not like when playing to the end of my list, telling myself I will play them should I ever beat my backlog :DIn all honesty, though, the only pleasure I receive from such things is the feeling when they're done, so I never have a reason, rational or not, to ever touch them again.

moonshineshadow: *hug just because*
So what are your favourite books?
*trying to turn this into a book thread for the moment to avoid talk about movies* :D
I enjoy a lot of the older books, especially around the era of HG Wells and up to the mid 20th century. I'm a big fan of fantasy and Sci-Fi, but I will give most books a chance, except for a few, such as romance novels or all these zombie books we are getting now. I also try to avoid books that are too Americanised (no offence to the lovely American here, but sometimes I get tired of the whole American being the center of the world and always saving the day while insulting every other nation). So what are your favourite books?
*trying to turn this into a book thread for the moment to avoid talk about movies* :D
I'm not sure I really have any firm favourites, I love a lot of the classics by some wonderful authors, like Wells, Dickens, Tolkien, Orwell, etc. But I enjoy a lot of modern authors as well. I am also a sucker for Warhammer 40K books, even though they are not that well written for the most part. The whole future world crossed with World War One and Two has always appealed to me. I probably read more Sci-Fi, philosophy, poetry, and history stuff recently, but when I was growing up it was a lot more fantasy novels. A lot of what I read is historical stuff, as that is my number one passion.
Do you have any firm favourites?
Edit: Finally I can post. Damn those GOG bears! :-)

Gods...just checked the stockpile and I still need to do a full run of Borderland 2.
I am so burned out on that game, and I haven't even cleared all the DLC to it once. Damn it.

CarrionCrow: Good morning. =)
It's really, really bad, to put it mildly.
Compared to the original, it's a pathetic joke. Chock full of squandered talent, a lead with less charisma than my left flip-flop, next to no action and what action there is? Completely spineless.
Within the last few days I've rewatched the original, and in the last two days I watched John Wick, a recent action movie that actually delivers. Those combined factors make its assorted shortcomings that much more apparent.
Is the problem with the movie that it's trying to appeal to younger viewers? Most of the good films from yesteryear were made for adult, 18+ certificate (or the US equivalent), while many now are stripped down so as to be acceptable for younger audiences. It's really, really bad, to put it mildly.

Hey, nice. I don't know much about David Cronenberg's movies (except A History of Violence [great] and The Fly [weird])... I really love Tarentino... and Lynch !! Elephant man is one of my most favorite movies ever. As for Mullholland Drive, I saw it many years ago, and I didn't catch anything... >__o ... Maybe I should give it a second chance, now I grew up.

I think they wanted a brand with recognition to try to make a quick buck on nostalgia. I think this because of their inclusion of things like the ED-209, some of the same music from the original, things like that.
Course, they did it all wrong, and it all served to remind me that I could be watching a far better movie.

And also "The Raven" series written by James Barcley. I really like the characters there and the story itself.
Of course there are many other fantasy authors with great books (Brent Weeks, Tad Williams, Trudi Canavan, Anne Bishop, Peter Brett) but those mentioned above are my favourites. Beside from the obvious fantasy classic Tolkien ;-)
For historical novels I really like the books of Ken Follett and Rebecca Gablé (not sure if the latter one has books translated into other languages, she is a german author)

What little movie knowledge I have goes back about 15 years or earlier. Anything since then and for the most part I'm hopeless. :-)

From Lynch, I've seen Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway repeatedly. I'm a sucker for dark movies.
Also, their soundtracks are both incredible.
Still need to sit down and watch Twin Peaks from start to finish.
